  1. Just confirmed Ray Pryor (1984) as a member of the 1,000 point club for Marion. He was a beast inside. Dwayne Walters and Jeff Brown played at the same time. Both could have been members of the club if there had been a three point line in the early 80's. JB had 650+ points while DeWall had 777. Anyone who saw these guys play knows that most of their baskets would have been well outside the three point line. Another very good outside shooter that played in the early 80's is non other than Tim Murphy. His outside set shot was deadly and he could have benefited greatly from the three point line.
  2. Teddy and Cody combined to take 68% of Marion's shots.... they accounted for 48% of Marion's points....
  3. Thanks for the dates..... We will check those out.... We have already checked on Winfree. He didn't play varsity much at all his Freshman year and didn't score many points his Sophomore year. He did have pretty good numbers his Junior/Senior years, but as you said, 1,000 is very difficult to reach in just two good years...... We have talked to Coach Phillips and he had the same frustrations when he was there and that is most of the previous coaches didn't keep good records OR they took their information with them when they left. It is my opinion that player accomplishments need to be recognized publicly and not kept some dark, hidden secret. I guess things were different in the older days....... Oh well.... the research goes on....... Thanks for all ya'lls help!
  4. It certainly sounds like Sayler may have a shot if we have something to confirm those numbers. He may have played for Coach Cogdill and if he did, the score books for 02-03, 03-04, and 04-05 are among the ones missing in action. We will check with Ryan Phillips since he is around pretty much all the time. We will check on the other names that you mentioned. Thanks. We have already contacted Warren and got his numbers..... definitely a member of the club.... What year did Hackney and Thomasson graduate? This will give us a starting point to begin our search into the records....... You guys keep the names coming.... like I said earlier, the best way to do this right now is by word of mouth. We don't have the time or resources to dig through all those years of scorebooks. You wouldn't believe the shape some of these books are in..... seasons will start in one book and finish in another.... j.v. and girls games will be recorded in some books with boys varsity.... opponents and dates aren't recorded at times... during some of the really bad seasons, the scorekeeper actually stopped keeping score at times and just kept the running totals.... It has been frustrating but something that I think will be good for our program when we are able to recognize those individuals for their accomplishments. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  5. We have a couple of names from the 60's and 70's. In the process of trying to verify actual point totals. Our problem is that many of the old score books have been discarded or taken by exiting coaches. To this point we haven't found but 5 players that we can confirm with 1,000. Brent Layne got very close and I think actually missed it by single digits. There have been another couple of names that had really good Junior and Senior years but saw little, if any, varsity playing time as a sophomore or freshman. Only varsity points are being counted towards career totals. If you know of anyone that may have a shot of being in the 1,000 point club at MCHS, please submit their name to the address below. We will make every effort to research each name submitted. We have made several calls to several different states already to come up with the limited list that we have. MCHS Attn: Boys Basketball Coach 160 Ridley Ave Jasper, TN 37347 Or call the office at 423-942-5120 and leave a message. We are getting close to celebrating 100 years of MCHS and we would like to have as much accurate information as possible. There are several celebration events in the works to cronicle the history of MCHS. It would be nice to be able to pay tribute to those who have done well for MCHS athletics. TTP: You and your friends have been around MCHS since the early to mid 90's. If you know of anyone that may be close to the 1,000 help us out. Word of mouth seems to be the best way at this point to find potential honorees since many of the records are no longer in existance. We are attempting to make a crucial contact with an individual that, at one time, had everything you needed to know about MCHS basketball in a manilla folder. I'd love to have a look at that folder......
  6. TheTruthPrevails-- Give me a call.... we need to talk....
  7. Scoring records are being researched at this time. Right now we have identified five people in the 1,000 point club: Zephan Guyear, Mack Phillips, David Pryor, Warren Haynes, and Jonathan Adams. There are some others who have been mentioned and we are looking into their stats. The trouble is, after Jerry McNabb left, no one kept very good records and many of the score books have disappeared. At this time we are looking for win/loss records for the following seasons: (If you know these please post them here) 1987-1988 1988-1989 1992-1993 1993-1994 1994-1995
  8. The "Other" stats reported to the paper are unofficial. Cody had a triple double with 10 points, 15 boards and 10 blocked shots...... Great game for the young man...... /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  9. I'm pretty sure you are giving way too much credit to Coach Keef. Maybe that was dripping with sarcasm. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> Zephan played in 23 varsity games as a Freshman, scoring 226 points. He started all 30 games as a Sophomore scoring 519 points. With 253 points through the first 15 games of this season, he entered the game last Friday needing only 2 points to reach 1,000. He got 21.... So you are correct TNWarrior.... he doesn't have 1,000 points..... he has 1,019! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> Congratulations again to Zephan and we look forward to more big things from him and the rest of this young Marion County team.......
  10. Marion County's Junior guard Zephan Guyear didn't waste any time passing the 1,000 career point milestone last night against Bledsoe County. Entering the game with 998 points, Zephan drained a three pointer just seconds into the game. He finished the game with 21 points. Congratulations to Zephan on this great accomplishment!!!!!
  11. I can assure you that Coach Keef has no idea who you are, but if you will call him at the school on Monday (942-5120), I'm sure he'd appreciate it. If DHP knows who you are and is as close to the program as you say, maybe he could get you connected with Coach.... /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  12. Both Zack and Jeremy got banged up tonight but fortunately nothing serious. Congratulations to Zephan for scoring his 1,000th career point. Had 21 points and 5 assists. Good game by the entire team. Pulled it together in the second half and took care of business. Bailey played well off the bench. Henegar played to his potential on the boards and defensively tonight. 15 boards and 10 blocked shots and 10 points. Corpeio scored well tonight (13 points) and had 6 assists. Much improvement from the whole team. Now it's time to think about Sequatchie County. Should be another great game on Tuesday night......... EDIT: Stats have been edited....
  13. The game that was postponed on December 11th between Marion Co and Notre Dame has been rescheduled. The game will be played January 26th at 6:00 (Eastern) at Notre Dame High School.
  14. You think "Mr. Griffith" sounds strange..... how about "DR. Griffith"? /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> Mark does have common sense and I think would be open to discussions about the dress code. Unfortunately, it would still come down to a vote by the board members. The good thing is that the District 2 Board Member that is solely responsible for developing the current dress code got ousted from office during the last election. The current sitting board may be more favorable for a revision of the current code to include School Sponsored appearal can be worn anytime.... The system can still have a "dress code" and let the students wear their school colors.....
  15. I found this on page 24 of this thread. Please read it again paying particular attention to the portion in bold.
  16. Marion plays Bledsoe County at home on January 4th. Junior Guard, Zephan Guyear is 2 points shy of reaching 1,000 career points. Should be an exciting night... not to mention a very good basketball game....
  17. It was nothing that should have warranted getting tossed. If you knew what was actually said to get the second Tech. you would laugh. It's time to move on. The fine has been paid and after tonight the suspension has been served. The girls got an all-important district win against ER Tuesday night. It was a great effort by the girls without Coach Ellis on the sideline. They did what they needed to do and that was come out firing and put the game away early. Good luck to Coach Ellis and the Lady Warriors for the rest of the season......
  18. It also hurts everyone when teams don't post their schedule/results. The rankings are only as good as the scores that are posted on here. This, and many other reasons, is why we should strive to have 100% team contribution to this site. I know that will never happen.... but we need as many as possible....
  19. OK... my FOURTH and FINAL post on this thread. Patience is a virtue..... obviously one that has been lost on this thread.... Rest assured that a new coach will be named before February.... everyone just needs to take a few deep breaths, relax, enjoy the Holidays and College Bowl Season.... Let the powers that be take care of hiring the new coach..... Regardless of how much you talk about it on here, you aren't getting an answer before 2008.... so chill out... and above all MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR'S!!!!
  20. You do have a sense of humor.... I'll give you that.... /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  21. OK... I'll make one more post even though I said I would only make one. At the current time, the only position that is available is an Algebra position. Currently, former MCHS teacher Mr. Harris is filling this spot as an emergency fill situation. Mr. Harris would love nothing better than to go back into retirement so that he could do some hunting/fishing. He has been gracious enough to come out of retirement to help out in our time of need. There is a possibility that there will be a Science position open up next semester or at the end of the year. Also, some of the faculty at MCHS have enough time in to retire if they so choose. NONE of those positions are open at this time so they can't be dangled out there for potential coaches. I don't know why you are getting on Bill so hard. I was the one that made the statement that we must have faith in the administration (yes... that is Coach Boeck and Mrs. Prince) and I do believe that they are taking the right steps towards successfully filling this position. It isn't as easy as you seem to think it is. We can't just hire anyone and then create a position. To answer another question that was posed in another post, No the funds aren't there to create an ISS or other non-essential position. With three high schools to support in the county, it's difficult to have enough funding to cover the core subjects......
  22. I'm not "worried" about BC and I can't do anything to resolve MC coaching issues. Unlike you and Warrior4ever, I realize my responsibility as a fan is to support whoever is named as coach and do whatever I can (monetary, donated time, etc...) to help the program advance under their guidance. The bottom line is that you have a good coach, and YOU need to put as much effort and energy into supporting him and the program as you do hiding behind your screen name trying to get rid of him.
  23. If you talk about Home Court Advantage you have to talk about winning percentage..... In my mind, hands down, the best Home Court Advantage in East Tennessee has to go to the Howard Hustling Tigers.... They haven't lost a home game is something like four years.... That's tough no matter who you are..... JMHO
