You're not wrong, but the 6'9 kid last year wasn't the focal point of their offense. Definitely helped rebounding and defending the paint, but they have two big post players this year as well. The Smith kid is strong and skilled. From seeing just a handful of games, it looks like to me the guard play has declined, besides Hazelbaker. He's s stud, but they're not getting hardly any production from the PG and other wing consistently. Not sure what's happened with the PG. He's been a stud the last two years, but has struggled mightily in a lot of games this year.

Definitely thought they would be near the top of the District again, but they got beat pretty handily by a mediocre West team last night. Not sure what the deal is. And agreed, I'll never understand the Coach West deal.

Off topic, not football related, but the boys basketball team seems to be struggling more than I thought they would this year with all the returning talent. Didn't see the game, but the Bearden game last week was a blood bath looking at the box score. I know Bearden is really good this year, but that game was never competitive. Anybody have any insight on the struggles?

Maryville played their tails off tonight. No one expected them to win this game and they went into the half with the lead. Second half didn’t go their way, but I’m proud of this team and these coaches. A couple plays always from playing for a championship. Jones is one heck of a QB and is just a sophomore. Can’t wait to watch what him and his teammates can do the next couple years.

Maryville got absolutely HOSED on the 3rd and 8 pass attempt on their last drive. Receiver got completely mauled, and of course, no call in the biggest spot in the game.

And NFHS apparently can’t figure out how to stream either. Not working.

Will this game be televised or streamed anywhere for the East TN folks that can’t make it to Murfreesboro tomorrow?

Seems like you don’t understand what I’m saying. Of course Maryville is one of the best programs in TN. And they have the talent and coaching to pull this off. But acting like it wouldn’t be an upset is idiotic.

Oakland has multiple 4 star prospects on this team and yet all this thread has been about is how "bad" Oakland has been and how worried Oakland fans are about this game. Oakland is a huge favorite, at home. This would be a huge upset if Maryville were to pull this one out. I would love nothing more than for Maryville to go down there and take care of business and get back to the state championship game, but it will take a special performance and mistakes and turnovers by Oakland for that to happen.

I love all the Oakland fans trying to downplay the amount of Division 1 talent they have. Maryville is well coached and fundamentally sound, and they have some really good athletes too. But make no mistake, they will be outmatched athletically all over the field on Friday night. Will take a special performance and some mistakes by Oakland for them to pull the upset. They’ve done it before and anything can happen. But it kills me seeing all the Oakland fans acting like they’re not sure how they’re going to win this game.

This season is a testament to Hunt and his willingness to make changes and needed adjustments. I complained a lot about a lot of things last year, but he deserves a ton of credit for getting things turned around this year. Maryville got back to playing Maryville football this year. Would be a huge upset to beat Oakland on the road, but it’s great to see Maryville back to practicing on Thanksgiving again. Be the aggressor, play physical, and anything can happen.

Great game all around tonight. The goaline stand and 99yd TD drive was awesome stuff. Next week’s going to be tough. Bearden is playing really well right now. Looking forward to a great matchup. Glad it’s at the Black Hole.

Tackling in general has been bad lately, but the secondary is the worst when it comes to tackling in space. And you’re right, Farragut attacked Maryville’s weakness in the secondary. I’m sure everyone sees it on film. Hope it doesn’t burn them in the playoffs. Especially in the quarters and semis, but really every single game from here out, tackling in space is going to be crucial.

The back shoulder throw for a TD by Jones in the second half was one of the more impressive throws I’ve seen from a Maryville QB in a few years at least. Third and long, under pressure. Talk about delivering when your team needs it. He’s already really good, but man his potential is tremendous.

Well, credit to the coaches and players for coming out in the second half and turning things around. They made some adjustments and started throwing the ball downfield on offense. That made a huge difference. Didn’t think they would come back in this one the way the first half went, but great comeback win and good momentum going into the playoffs.

This is what happens when you have poor coaching and just run the same stuff every week no matter who you’re playing or what scheme your opponent runs. On both sides of the ball. Got completely outcoached in first half.

You're pathetic. No class, just like the entire Alcoa football program. That's what that program has always been and always will be. It comes from the top down. But that's okay. Maryville will continue to win and lose with class.
