  1. They definitely need to get the Maryville football brand back. Aggressive offensive that keeps defenses on their heels, physical and suffocating defense that creates turnovers, and more disciplined than any team they play. That’s what they have to get back to and in my opinion that’s what’s been missing the last couple years.
  2. I don't think I can handle the thought of GQ going to Oakland. I always said if GQ had that talent that a school like Oakland has, he would never lose.
  3. Keep being delusional, that's fine. Maryville owns Alcoa. Have fun winning your little league championship this week.
  4. Alcoa got out-coached and outplayed that night. And Maryville went in there and won that game. You’ve lost all privilege to talk until next year’s game. Thanks for playing. I’m sorry your feelings are hurt because Alcoa got outclassed once again by their big brother.
  5. This doesn't affect me whatsoever, so my feelings will never be hurt. It's the ignorance that bothers me. Like you saying he got hired at Furman for his recruiting ties and that he did at ETSU as well. That's just ignorant. He got hired at both places because he's a good coach and he's a winner. I don't think he got a fair shake to prove himself at ETSU.
  6. If you count the Covid year in any statistic, I immediately discredit whatever you say. If we want to look at facts, Quarles was not given a fair chance. And if you want to talk about knowing how to win, he was 250-16 as a head coach in high school. He was the AHC at Furman for 5 years and was widely successful there as both a TEs and then the OC, putting up big numbers. There's the some facts for you. Most coaches don't sniff a HC position just 5 years into the college ranks. The fact he already did shows how talented he is and what people think of him within the industry. He'll bounce back and someone will be getting an incredible coach, whether he's an assistant or a HC. ETSU obviously doesn't know how to run an athletic department, which is why most of their sports are a mess. So all in all, it may be a great thing that GQ got out of that toxic place.
  7. Yep exactly. He’s so good at recognizing what defenses are doing and knows when to call those plays he’s been setting up all night. No matter who replaced GQ, they were never going to be able to do the things he did at the high school level. And to your point, Gaylor and Ellis were huge advantages to have. Great coaches.
  8. He’s not coming back to Maryville. Maryville has a great coach, and it’s his dream job. I’m sure tons of high schools will come calling for GQ. But I doubt he’d come back to the high school ranks, except maybe BA or another big time private school. If I was betting, he’ll get another chance as an offensive coordinator or assistant in the college ranks. He’s one of the best offensive minds in the country, and I’m not exaggerating. If you spend 5 minutes with him talking about offense, it’s obvious.
  9. Yep. Derek is a great guy, and there’s a reason all the coaches that had been there longer than him all vouched for him and said he should be head coach. No doubt that he’s the right guy for the job. He’s Maryville through and through. And I have full faith he’s gonna get them back to competing for championships. Two subpar years, shouldn’t overshadow the fact that he’s already won 2 gold balls. No matter who replaced GQ, no one will ever be able to repeat what he did. He was the best high school coach in the country in my opinion. And Ellis and Gaylor were two of the best right under him. Better days are ahead I think.
  10. I agree, there’s definitely a lot of young talent to build off of for next year. And I also agree that what they did last year with the QB issue carried over. Why? I’m not sure. You can’t win in 6A being one dimensional, unless of course you have top tier athletes all over the field like Oakland. But they’re even starting to throw it more now. I’m really hoping with the young talent that will keep developing, they’ll make some adjustments and get back to the style of play we’re used to seeing from Maryville. Also, just my opinion, but don’t let anyone tell you you’re not a Maryville fan just because you have a strong or different opinion. That’s literally what this site is for - discussion of topics and opinions.
  11. Buddy I’ve been here all year, lived in Maryville my whole life and been going to games since I was 4 years old. Think I know a thing or two about the community support of the program. A community that consistently packs stands year in, year out. When you’re the best program in the state for 20+ years, people will find anything they can to come at you about. Case and point here. They finally have a couple seasons where they struggle a little bit, and people come out of the woodworks to talk crap. That’s fine. BC has a great team this year. You get what you pay for these days, so congrats. Let’s talk in about 20 years down the road and we’ll see how many gold balls you got. Don’t think it’ll be too many. Definitely not 13 in a 20 year span. But congrats on a good year!
  12. You wanna talk about support? Let’s talk about all the times BC came up to Maryville undefeated with a chance to take the region or even in a playoff game, and got beat worse than Maryville did last night. You wanna know if the BC side was full? Not even close.
  13. You are so wrong about this. Completely. The Maryville community supports this program just as much as they always have. The stadium is full every Friday night and the away stands were pretty dang full last night, just scanning on tv. But sure, come on here and try to stir the pot by talking about something you have no clue about. Get outta here.
  14. Okay, that makes sense. I’m not familiar with their youth programs, but I do agree that has a huge impact on the success of the Maryville football program. And obviously coaching at the high school level too. I think Maryville needs to get back to a more balanced offense and developing more of a passing attack this off-season.
  15. When you say that took Maryville’s model and applied it to their own, what do you mean by that? I’m curious, because they play two completely different styles of football. So I’m not really sure what you’re trying to say.
  16. Disappointing end to a struggle of a season to say the least. Maryville was outmatched tonight. But this coaching staff needs to make some big time adjustments this off-season if they want to get back to competing for championships. I never thought I would see Maryville struggle offensively like they have the past two seasons. Something has to change. The lack of a real threat of a passing attack has killed them the past two years. A lot of things have attributed to this, but the main problem I see is the schemes they’re running now. They make it way too easy on defenses. Never thought I would see that out of Maryville, but here we are.
  17. Here’s a bright idea. Don’t kick it to him. If you can’t kick it in the end zone every single time, pooch kick it to the short sideline. 20 yards of field position is better than giving up a TD. Bad coaching decision.
  18. I’ll just say this. Scott West had no issues putting together a flawless, professional broadcast on NFHS. Throughout the season and the playoffs, they always had a good broadcast. And he did it with himself and a bunch of students. If they wanted to do it, they would. Simple as that.
  19. Yikes. I'm not familiar with the current principal, and a lot of the administration is either gone or retired since I was there. But it's obvious they don't care too much about promoting football and sports. The game broadcasts can bring a lot of positive attention, advertising opportunities, great experience for students looking to get into that field, I could go on and on. And it doesn't have to be a complicated setup. Just give me a wide shot camera angle, a closeup, a scoreboard, and announcers. That's literally all they need for a solid game broadcast, and they refuse to do it. It blows my mind.
  20. You really never know. It says it's going to be broadcast by BC on NFHS, but we'll see. I know Maryville won't be doing one. They haven't even had a broadcast the last couple of home games. And the one they did recently, maybe the Farragut game if I'm remembering right, it was so glitchy I couldn't stand to watch it. But don't get me started on that. It's a shame.
  21. That's what I'm afraid of. It's currently listed to be broadcast by BC on NFHS, but you really never know.
  22. Unfortunately, work is going to keep me from making the trip down for this one. Gonna have to try and catch it on NFHS or the BC broadcast. Wish I could be there.
  23. Not sure where you’re getting that information. Because it’s not true.
  24. Really solid effort all around. Good to see them bounce back tonight after coming out flat last week. Great to see LaDue get more touches. Gonna need a great effort next week to beat Bradley Central, but if they play like they did tonight on both sides of the ball, they’ll have a real chance.
