I know I will catch it for saying this but...on some level Alcoa and Maryville don't want WB or Heritage to have really good teams. If WB were to improve then many of the kids that make Maryville and Alcoa such strong and deep programs would no longer transfer/move to those programs. If WB is better those other schools get worse. Probably not significantly worse, but it would cost them a few of their really good players every year.

WB does need to step up! Coach Shad said so in his interview with the paper Saturday. He said folks are too comfortable with losing there. I hope he changes the culture and builds a strong program at WB as well. I can't think of anything better for our county than a third strong football program as long as it is WB and not Heritage

My parents graduated from Alcoa years ago, and my uncle is a coach for one of the Maryville rec league teams and has been for years. I am very familiar with the rivalry. I only posted this to get under skin of a friend of mine. I am proud of both schools and hope they both win state again this year. Both schools do make each other better. I ain't a hater, just a stirrer.

I don't know who wins this one. Alcoa is a strong defense, especially the line. I suspect the secondary will get taken advantage of by Marvyille. Who knows. Both programs are excellent in their own right. I find it odd that Maryville fans brag about beating Alcoa though, it being a much smaller school and all. They are supposed to beat them. I can beat my youngest son in basketball, but I don't go bragging about it. (Maybe in a couple years I will brag about it). Just trying to stir things up a little. Comments anyone?

WB wins this one. Their offense will be able to score and their defense will look much stronger this week. I don't think Heritage will score 50 against WB since Alcoa and DB didn't. We ran the ball well against Alcoa, and I think we will do so again. Our passing game is strong if the QB has time. WB by 10.

That is totally awesome, and one of the reasons I am a Shad fan. He is building this team the right way. My boy loves playing for him, even though Shad does occasionally have to yell at him. Practice is fun, he talks about his faith, believes in the boys, and his family is always there to support him. That's my kind of coach. Football will be over for these boys pretty quickly, and then they need to live the rest of their life for something. I suggest living it for Jesus.

I would be SHOCKED if Maryville made the transition to D2AA. They could certainly compete, but I think they like where they are just fine. I am sure they will do what is necessary to remain safely in the public school category.

Well, my boy tells me that WB is ready to play and they are going to win, so that settles it....doesn't it?

Someone told me that if you pay tuition to go to a school, that qualifies that school for D2AA. I know Maryville doesn't give scholarships, but they do require tuition from those who are not city residents. Does anybody know if this information I have fed is true or not?

I know this may sound strange, but I was impressed with our team coming out of the Alcoa beat down. The game was closer than the score if that makes any sense at all. WB was intimidated and Alcoa jumped up 21-0 right away, but after that it was a 14-7 game, and Alcoa didn't take their foot off the gas at all imho. Alcoa left their starting defense in the whole game. WB ran for about 150 yards against a HUGE d-line. Shad comes up with different formations and game plans each week, which is something new for this program. WB didn't quit which is something new for this program as well. Proud of our boys and I believe they will continue to improve each week. They still need more linemen though. For that matter, they need more players period. Depth is a serious issue this season. Don't have a guess for Friday night's score, but I know WB will come to play, and come to win. The boys have bought in to Shad and so have I.

I was at the WB game too, and the officiating was WAY lopsided. I have never seen a game with that many personal fouls called on one team. Those types of calls are "judgment" calls. Apparently the refs "judged" that WB was trying to start a fight on every play, but LC never did anything wrong. Call holding, call offsides, call pass interference, but that many personal foul calls on one team means that the refs are interfering with the game. I'm not saying it was intentional. Only the refs know that. But either way, the refs definitely influenced that game whether it was intentional or not. That being said, WB should never have let them rush for that many yards. Also, Alcoa's d-line is really big. So was Ooltewah's and that scrimmage was UGLY! I am pulling for the Govs come what may though. Go Govs! Go Shad! Yeah-Haw! Boo ya!

Yeah, the backup QB played the final offensive series. The boys did well, although the delay of game penalties drive me crazy. I am sure they will fix that this week though. Go Govs!

Wow, I don't look at the thread for a couple days and look what happens! So far I really like what Shad is doing and the way he leads the boys. Practice is well organized. Nobody is standing around not learning. He demands excellence. He also leads them spiritually which is very important to me, and should be to all of us. As I said before, sounds like there was a personality difference at the former school and then someone tried to accuse him of illegality when there was none just out of spite.

Maybe I am mistaken but the papers said that the police department had completed their investigation and had passed on their info to the IRS. All I know is what I read in the papers though. The paper did say they had passed it on to the IRS which makes me think their was nothing criminal and probably nothing even worth investigating. Somebody didn't like Shad and tried their best to catch him in something and couldn't is what it sounds like to me. I have few facts to back my opinion however.
