  1. No, I remember some of your starters into the 2nd quarter, when Greeneville was going away from the scoreboard end. But, start of the 2nd, end of the 1st...it was still 56-0...why have the starters in the game? Doesn't matter to me...my old school doesn't play in 4A and never plays Greeneville or Central for that matter...but it was just an observation. I really don't have a dog in that race...
  2. Concerning the Central game...I'm not sure how many starters were still in after it was 56-0, but their starting QB was in, throwing long TD passes...I believe he had 6 TD passes. Of course, the QB is the head coach's son, so it was a nice chance to pad the stats, I guess. If I was getting ready for a playoff run, I would not have risked injury to my starters in that downpour on a wet surface after it was 35-0...but that's just me. Those types of things eventually come back around to bite you...it will be interesting to see how their talent level holds up after the TSSAA changes are implemented next year. It might be a good time to invest in some apartments inside the city limits.
  3. Wow...interesting discussion on the state of Sullivan County football. A couple of things...folks at a Greeneville game told me earlier this year that they have kids that come from over an hour away to play football. I'm guessing the TSSAA tuition change next year may start to curb their talent feed in the future, as it may with some other open tuition systems. As for the future Sullivan County school, if it's ever built, I hope they don't necessarily think they have to hire from within...that's been a problem for a long time. It seems to have hurt for quite a while. This coach they just hired at Central broke that mold, since he came from Middle Tennessee. Coach Norris has done a fine job at North, but is he ready for 6A? Coach Haynie had a great group come through with Wieger and company a couple years back, but they aren't at that level now. Between the 3 schools, I think you could put together a pretty decent staff with the right head coach...maybe one of the 3. Whoever it is will need to have some freedom to add specific coaches as needed...just not sure Sullivan County will allow him that freedom.
  4. From WJHL: Sullivan Central High School has named Christopher L. Steger as the new head football coach. Principal Mark Foster told News Channel 11, Steger returns to the Tri-Cities after serving at offensive line coach at Stewart Creek High School in Smyrna, TN. “Coach Steger brings with him tremendous enthusiasm, passion and values that we feel will be a key for success as he leads the Central Cougars into the 2016 season. In addition, to his coaching duties, he will be joining our teaching staff as an economics and personal finance teacher, said Principal Foster. Foster also says that Steger is no stranger to the East Tennessee. He is a graduate of Elizabethton High School and over the years he’s coached and taught at Halls High School in Knoxville.

  6. Sullivan Central is now open.
  7. He resigned after the season. They were 0-10 this year.
  8. In case the word had not got out much due to the Christmas school break, Sullivan Central has an opening for Head Football Coach. If anyone is interested, the phone number for the county central office is 423-354-1000.
  9. Can Cougars break through for first victory? Both teams gave up big leads late last week...Cherokee held on, while Central most in OT.
