He struggled at Polk also, from 2014 to 2017 he was 7-34 including two winless seasons. His last year at Polk was 6-5. I'll say this, and I have no facts to back up my opinion** I think he left polk because of administration reasons. Their were some rumors flying around that the soccer parents where causing a stink wanting to use the football stadium for games but they still expected Derrick to maintain the field. I heard he denied those rumors is why he left but only he knows the real reason.

I don't agree with your Polk comment, Davis was hired to take over a program that had went years w/o a winning season when Jeff Williams was coach. The season before Derrick was hired they went 0-10, Derrick's first year 2-8 then the next season 9-3 and a trip to the 2nd round of the playoffs. Then the ball got rolling and the wins kept coming along with region championships and a win vs South Pitt. He's a good coach and knows how to pull every ounce of talent out of his players. His interview with the DPA said he was ready to step down from head coaching duties after 21yrs so why doubt his reasoning? Maybe he's got something going on at home and just didn't have the time to dedicate to being a HC anymore? I'd say he did a good job at MC considering the beat Polk co both years along with Copper Basin and a good win vs Brainard. He no doubt left the program better than he found it.

I've got a gut feeling Davis resigns after the season is over. His ego can't take 0-21 going back to the end of 2013. Upcoming freshman aren't going to want no part of a joining the team when they haven't won a game in 2yrs. Looking as though polk has reverted back to the late 90's when 2-8 was a great season.

Davis is batting 0-18 counting the 2013 playoff loss. Very strong possibility he'll got 0-21 by the end of this year. If players are quitting on him and the team is losing community support things aren't looking too good for Derrick IMO.

Heard from a friend of mine 4 more players quit in the last couple weeks. Something odd going on when players are quitting mid-season.

Long time listener first time caller! I'm from meigs co but have family in the polk area and used to follow the team until work took me out of state. Just curious what has happened to the Benton boys? I was looking back thru the past seasons records and noticed counting the '13 playoff loss the wildcats have lost 16 straight leading up to last Friday's home loss to Bledsoe. 0-16 is a tough pill to swallow given there past success, I'm sure the polk faithful will say this is another bad year but do any of you suspect the school board and administration are getting a little antsy? I know back in 1999 one 0-10 season did Jeff Williams in and Davis has a very good chance at going back to back 0-10 seasons (0-21). Any body have inside info about what's going on? I heard last season the starting QB just up and quit mid season for unknown reasons.
