It was a SCRIMMAGE about years ago at Watt Road. We didn't have our goalie and were missing 3 of our other starters. Before that we had beaten them in the SMSC Fall classic and a couple of other meetings. They were actuelly a better theam when they were the Fury. They never seem to pull it together when it counts.

No question about it. 5 of the U15 Division I Tennessee state champs are all Sophomores and play for Bearden. It's definitely not Farragut. The Impact think they are good but can never quite deliver when it counts/

Agreed. You just never know. It was wet and cold. Bearden just couldn't get anything into the net.

  7. I have the Bearden Schedule for this tounament. I believe it's a Christian Brothers Tournament: Bearden at MUS Friday night Bearden at Christian Brothers Saturday Bearden at Faterh Ryan Sunday Morning. You are right. The entire tournament should show some great soccer from some really good teams. I think all the scores from all the games in this tournament will be close.
  8. Equal parts of perspiration, enthusiasm, teamwork, intelligence and skill. But that's pretty much true of any sport. I don't think any particular position is most or least important. In order to win championships you must be talented at all positions.
  9. Whoa Nice shootin Tex. You seem to be having a really good day. You obviously do not have a firm grasp on your reading skills or you wouldn't have gotten out of my post what you did. Please try to keep your posts to the subject instead of childish insults. You would also be doing all of us a big favor by discontinuing use of the word retarded in your posts. Speaking of cool.....please try to develope a little of your own. Thats all I have to say on this matter.
  10. That's probably right. I know that Ben Backstrom plays for the 89 Select. I'm not sure who the others are.
  11. Agreed. Webb is pretty weak this year but are loaded with tons of good sophs. They should be able to step it up within the next couple of years. As for where SD gets their competitive players? The only one I know of is Soph Nathan Burns. I believe he plays for the 89 Impact along with all those sophs from Farragut. He isn't considered the best on the team just one of many good players. He is pretty small, takes a lot of hits and spends a good deal of time on the turf. But still a talented player with a lot of heart. I just wouldn't brag too much.....lets see how much there is to brag about midway in the season. I wish SD lots of luck this season.
  12. This has been an interesting thread. Here is my take on it. All of it is part of the game. It is up to the refs to control it. If they do not then it will continue and get progressivley worse as the game goes on. Some Select teams will begin by playing by the rules but if the opposing team does not play by the rules and the ref does not stop it, then the other team has no alternative but to "get into the mud with the pig". The unfortunate thing when you get into the mud with a pig is that you both get all dirty but the pig enjoys it. I have seen lots of elite teams. The teams that are trying to be great but do not have the skill level to get to the top tend to be the worse offenders. The truly great teams are the ones that are skilled and have no need to break the rules of the game.
  13. I think the most shots were probably taken by Bearden. ND had some shots but not the best selection. Both defenses played well and a good majority of the game was played backline to backline. Both goalies also played well and were kept fairly busy the entire game. The ND goalie is tall and strong the Bearden goalie is a bit short but more than makes up for it in speed and agressivness. Notre Dame should do well in their division. But it was only a scrimmage?
  14. Varsity Game: Bearden 0, Notre Dame 0 JV Game: Bearden 6+? Notre Dame 0 The Varsity game was a well played game on both sides. Notre Dame seemed to be a very skilled team but lacked conditioning. Bearden (always forward, never back) won the ball consistently and frustrated Notre Dame to the point that they were tackling Bearden players (the American football kind of tackling). More than one yellow. Both are very good teams. I also noticed that since this is one of the final scrimmages of the season that both teams played only varsity and varsity caliber subs. More like a real game than "pitches" SCRIMMAGES. Be sure to keep an eye on Bearden this year. They are pumped.
