Hey baseball, been there done that many moons ago. First thing I was taught, tune out the fans. Rabbit ears can lead to nothing good !! Did I miss some things ? Sure I did. But I learned to work hard to stay in good position to have the best angles possible to do my best to get it right. And after I made a call that made 1/2 the crowd happy & 1/2 the crowd mad I held my spot on the field & turned my ears off. That's what's wrong with several umps today. They're so inconsistent they open themselves for questioning & pleading by coaches & then when the fans start riding them they're ready to get somebody. Same's true with basketball. Officiating in our state has gone way DOWN in recent years. And I've been following sports for five decades now. An ump may have the right to clear a stadium as was threatened last night, but it had better be for a whole lot more than having someone get on you for a shaky at best call. Ironically, same call appealed last night was identical to one Tuesday night against Giles County, when the base umpire refused to ask for help from the plate umpire who MIGHT have had the better view of the play. Can you say inconsistent ? If I was a coach I'd go nuts.

None of you all have ever been to Lewisburg have you ? It's just the opposite. Down the lines is reasonable, but this baseball/football field is about 2 miles to deep center & 2&1/2 to 3 miles in the gaps. I've seen a few actually go out in some of the deepest parts of the park, but you'll see a lot more exciting triples if the ball makes the gap. It's a long lonely run for an outfielder if he gets burnt !!!

Winning is prioity number one, but entertaining basketball is becoming more & more important if you want to compete for today's entertainment dollar. Unlike 20-30 years ago, people are much more mobile & have a lot of other options for their entertainment. Maybe that's why attendance was lagging this year at the girls state. And it was lagging big time in lots of gymnasiums that were once packed to he rafters.

Say what you want, but if you don't have a guard the caliber of Kayla Hudson, a high school team can't effectively play the keep away style for long periods of time against good defensive minded teams. She really impressed me from day one of the tourney. She was the difference maker. Congrats to Gleason & their great fans. I still think a shot clock is not a bad ideal. I suggested 40 because any good team should be able to find a shot in that time span. And it wouldn't penalize teams that play hard nosed defense. Gosh, I remember when we didn't have a three point shot. You think its inception has hurt the game ? Me neither.

I haven't figured out the five second call all season. You just never know when the ref is going to start counting or not. I think a shot clock would be good....and 40 might be a good starting place. They aren't cheap though.

What is Hog-eye ??? Someone told me Livingston had that on their warmups.

Lewisburg won 58-49. Were up by 17 in the 4th quarter when I tuned in. Good win.

With no dog in this fight & as one who doesn't keep up with wrestling, this thread was riveting. Now, someone please tell me...who won the division ?? Spell it out for me, I know none of the participants.

pageman I'll be honest & tell you I'm shocked by Page's win. No way did I see that coming. I was thinking to myself yesterday that poor pageman wouldn't have a team in the tourney after last night. i was going to see if you wanted to be an honorary Tiger !! Guess not now! Congrats on a huge win.

I've seen or listened to a lot of games this year. Demario is one of the best players I've seen this year. Without a doubt the best point guard. If he was better as a freshman and sophomore then he really was something special. What do you think Pageman ? I know you've been around the block a time or two this season.

Do the people of Lynchburg think he might say yes ? I don't. I see him dumping you at the altar. I've been suprised before though.

20 fouls Pageman ?? Gosh it's hard to commit 20 fouls in a game, much less a half !! What crew did you all have ? Sounds like they were picky picky. If so, what a shame. 33 free throw attempts is absurd.

True and on the flip side, too many unskilled players with good attitudes but no talent, leads to too many losing seasons & coaching changes. Fans always get caught up in we want this & we want that and it's all well & good. But no one should ever lose sight of what they really want... W's. With enough W's, most people are content. Without them, ain't nobody happy.

I would hope Johns & Coleman would be given some consideration, if they're interested. Both are good guys, good coaches & would be good additions. I'd find the room for them if I was DT.
