  1. Yeah don't know how big a crowd it will be when USJ plays Milan this year except on the Milan side.
  2. Around here, Milan has always been one of the "cream of the crop" programs and playing them at all, much less with the team they have this year is going to be really tough. I've never seen a coach work as hard and with as much enthusiasm as he has done with our kids and they love him for it already. But as Govolsknox said, it's going to take some time for the boys to learn and master his system as it's much different than what we had before. Patience is a virtue, but a hard one to live through!
  3. Thoughts and prayers to him, his teammates, his family and the coaches too. He sounds like a great young man. Hope he makes a full recovery.
  4. Yep- how could I forget? And that's a pretty big hurdle too!
  5. He has the program rejuvenated no doubt about it. Lots of excitement now whether that pans out I have no idea, but that is certainly the goal. I like our chances better before the decision this week that could potentially place teams like CAK, CPA, etc in the same class not to mention BA and Ensworth if they stayed down which they probably won't, but.. I know that a lot more kids are interested in playing now and that can only be a good thing.
  6. I agree with you, but aren't most privates in D1 now less than the 266? Thought I saw that some where.
  7. I think the TSSAA is trying to entice and push all private schools into D2. Seems the vast majority would go into D2 1A which as you stated is "watered down." Or if they try to stay in D1 the TSSAA has removed the 1 class increase cap for the 1.8 multiplier and a private would move up however many classes their population x 1.8 dictates. Many 1A and 2A privates would not want to play in 3A or 4A.

  9. Thanks Intense. I may just do that from time to time. Yes I have one playing (or at least on the team). I think football is one of those sports that teach a lot of life lessons, but the same could be said for all sports. Bringing the guys closer together and learning to depend on someone other than yourself is a great aspect. Good programs bring out the best in kids and I think for the most part, that's what all of these schools do.
  10. Back in the day! Great to hear about the freshman- I bet he turns out to be a good one for y'all and glad he's at a good school/program. I will move off the 6 2A board now so y'all can get back to discussing your district. It's been fun and good luck everybody!
  11. Good points all the way around-- I think playing up in D2 AA will be beneficial for TCA and JC because you will continue to play us due to rivalry anyway and might as well be district play. I hope Ensworth and Brentwood Acad play up too because as of right now, they're in our division AA! On a different note, I wonder if Adamsville has a kid named Hill this year? Fine young man and a great athlete at least during middle school age.
  12. Seems like I read somewhere the 1.8 multiplier remains intact, but the elimination of the maximum 1 class increase. So does this mean TCA or JC could be moved up more than 1 class to 3A if they remain in D-1? If this is accurate (again I thought I read it), it would be a significant change.
  13. Intense I think you're right on the move to D2. I agree on the hypothetical region alignment as well except we already play TCA and JC so Adamsville and McKenzie would be the new tough games, but ECS, Briarcrest and St. Georges are no slouches. Throw in Battleground Academy and an out of conference Milan and I think we are playing some pretty good teams already.
  14. As much as I want to, I can't disagree with alot of what you said. Some like Coach Marley being overrated because I think he was a good coach, but as you said, facts are facts. I think depth plays a tremendous role in football, but especially with teams like these in which most players go both ways. That's really hard to do for an entire game and when the injury bug hits, devastating to most. I think this is the area in which USJ is going to change the most besides play calling; just like a coach once told me when I told him the other team in numbers was much smaller than us and he said, they may only have 35 players but they're the right 35. Sorry to high jack the 6-2A thread and I will go back to my area, but it's lonely over there.
  15. Anybody going to take his bait besides me? Why would USJ be a great fit?
  16. You know, I don't have a dog in this fight but I just wanted to say- I have watched the Adamsville faithful and the TCA faithful go at it for years and for the most part, it's been good respectable banter and lots of fun watching y'all. It's got to be hard for fathers of former players, like TCAIntense and even former players this time of year when their sons or the former players themselves are not getting ready for the very near season. It's tough to fill all of that time you used to spend watching, coaching, traveling, anticipating and all the other stuff which was done prior to and during the season. Hope y'all enjoy the upcoming season even though you have entered a new different season of your own as well as your kids. Please keep posting because it was entertaining and very informative. Good luck to all.
  17. I agree on the quarterback because Underwood was really good at scrambling and making something happen. I think we have some potential there albeit unproven. The receivers were good last year and catching and blocking, but also played alot on defense (Hawks, Jones, etc). This year the receivers will have to step it up, but I think they can. Good athletes. Bodiford was good at RB and cornerback/LB so he will be missed as well. However, lots of athletes that can step in and I think many more kids will rotate in than in years past. Lots of excitement and anticipation under the new coach. Kids really seem to like him.
  18. Coach Nickey is a class guy. He is very personable with the players and the parents. Plus he brings the background of high school experience with BGA/USJ, collegiate with Ohio State and pro with the Titans. Also his play on special teams was noteworthy as he would absolutely get after it. Coach Marley was right last year-- I think he could still suit up and play a game! I remember one game last year, everyone, including myself, had on a heavy coat, hat, etc.-- it was freezing and the wind was howling. Coach Nickey is there in his short sleeve blue shirt with a bald head just doing his thing. Must be that Ohio State training. Congrats to North Side and we all hope he does extremely well along with North Side. Really hate to lose him, but glad he's still in town and hopefully winning with a fellow Jackson school. Good luck guys!
