Time to kick the dust off this thread... TT, I looked for an AAU schedule for you guys, couldn't find it. Am I missing it, or not out yet?

Also, are the Alliance / TPV 18's teams done?

Dusting it off now.......the 16's are the second week so I don't think it's out yet.  Realistic goal I feel is a gold round finish.  With any luck on the draw and if the girls play to their potential, I think thats a fair ask.

Einstein, nobody is blasting the Umpire for correctly enforcing the rule. Get that through your skull. It sure sounds like this discussion has gotten somebody's undies all in a bunch so their bush can't be shaken.

You boys in west TN have some weird customs.  Please keep them in Haywood county

I'm not even sure what this means.  If you are trying to get in my undies to "shake my bush", I require dinner and a kiss first.

What some people fail to realize is that nobody is condoning the actions by Dusty Rhodes on the field that day. Also nobody is saying that the Umpire involved with the ejection of Dusty Rhodes did anything wrong in any way. What people are continuing to fail to understand is that if the hybrid stance was a point of emphasis all year long why was the pitcher in question not confronted one single time all year long by umpires in multiple associations over the hybrid stance? Inquiring minds. who were just shaking the bush, want to know.

That's a discussion that needs to be had with those other umpires, not the one who accurately enforced the rule.

Plus throw in the fact that it was never called the whole regular season. I know Dusty can ruffle feathers but I know To blow up like that there was something else. He coached and umpired many years at all levels even college. So you can’t tell me he did not know what was going on to just blow up at that level. Like I have Said earlier. Where is the punishment and accountability to the umpires who did not follow the rules and make the call during the regular season.

This doesnt justify him acting like an ####.  Some of these boys will think it's ok to yell, spit, and cuss someone they disagree with.  There's no justification for what the coach did, none!

This is the fiirst year I have watched a slew of HS baseball in a while. Umpiring in baseball is worse than basketball, IMO. No reason to act the way he did but it was awful.

Perhaps if coaches, players, and parents acted like civil human beings at high school sporting events, specifically towards officials, we would have better qualified people in those positions.  Who would want to be treated like that at their job and continue to do it?

The players made mistakes as well. You can’t leave the dugout and rush out on the field. You can yell and holler at officials. You can’t motion like you are going to take a swing at officials. All of this was done by players in the video. The players do deserve punishment just like the coach.

What if those players were seniors?

  8. It's ironic you used the Alliance 15-1 team has an example as that team two years ago (13-1) was the only 1 team that I'm aware of in Alliance history that did not play in the Open division at Nationals.  They played in the next division down and still did not perform well.

  9. The Alliance 13-1 beat MidTN 13 in crossover play but got whipped in the Silver division game against MidTN.

90% of parents do not know the difference between JVA/USA/SRVA and probably don't care. most, if not all, of the area clubs focus on AAU Nationals in Orlando because that all they've ever known.   What they do care about is being as competitive as possible in the tournaments they attend.  I say play your team where you are competitive.  Getting destroyed at these large tournaments is not fun for anyone and I say it does more harm than good compared to being competitive in non-Open divisions.

you talking about the 18's TPV team Osage?

    No,  16 Alpha lost two games in three sets to 18 Paragon (17-25, 32-30, 15-12 and 17-25, 25-23, 15-12).  16 Alpha beat 18 Bravo in three sets(20-25, 25-17, 15-8)

Right now, Paragon is a better team, especially on first touch.

the other thread was specific to TN Club volleyball 2019. That's where, for example, Apostle was keeping up with AES rankings, and we were commenting on those. This thread lost a page or 2 as well, making me wonder what all was deleted, and why.

Anyhow, congrats (again) to TT's team on another outstanding weekend. The win vs. the 18's team was especially impressive.

Girls played well.  The two games against 18 Paragon were amazing to watch.  both games went three sets and at one point it was 7 people deep watching the games.  Great atmosphere for sure.

    Agree with Apostle here.

Let's be honest... among the upper level older players (high school age, anyway) what's left at Alliance that TPV would want? Probably one kid of the 16's, at least one, maybe 2 off the 15's. Beyond those, when you talk about kids who are potential candidates to play for Top 40 D1 schools, Alliance does't really have them anymore. Which creates an interesting situation for both clubs.

One player for sure from this years Alliance 16-1 will.

The 15's are a toss up because that age group is weak.  The strongest 15 in the state plays on TPV's 16 Alpha team so unless she's asked to play on the 16's again next year (very doubtful) , I can see 1, maybe 2 players from that age group move to TPV.  If she's asked to play 16's again, that number could go up to 3-4 players.

14's in the area are weak.  That's the group you have seen the most movement between clubs the past two years.  None of the top TPV players will go back to Alliance in this age group.

13's are interesting and could be the age group that defines these two clubs.  MidTN dominates and Alliance parents see that and are questioning the direction of their team compared to last years performance.  TPV has a couple of strong pieces at this age group but not nearly enough, if a couple players move from Alliance to MidTN or TPV, that will mean big trouble for the future of Alliance.

These are only my opinions, but my educated opinions.

But, as Osage, Summary Judgment and Clifford have stated, we haven’t had the upper level training or “in-game” coaching (perhaps TPV will prove that different) for consistent Top 10 finishes.  Placing “non-competitive” game coaches and/or the politics of playing a lineup that does not provide the best chance to win has hindered these opportunities several times. Kudos to last year’s Alliance 18’s National Championship in CALIF (even if it was not an Open division – they beat everyone put in front of them)!  And, that team was coached by their top Coach and now Club Director - she demands the best from her players.

That same coach/director (who does not coach a team now) was recently called out at a program parents meeting about her not traveling to tournaments.  She had "prior obligations" but now plans to attend away tournaments.

  14. People can decide for themselves if they want to take my word or not, but I stand by what I say because I'm familiar with both clubs, a lot of the families, and the history of volleyball in the middle TN area.  I also stick by my statement that there will be a larger number of girls moving clubs next year than this past year.

As for all the clubs around, the exposure for volleyball is great but the top level girls need to be in the same club/team to compete Nationally.  There's enough talent in the area to have at least 2-3 teams finish in the top 10 Nationally if all of the top players played together.  13's at MidTN and 16's at TPV come to mind as teams that have done this or at least tried to move in this direction.  The rest of the ages seem to have the best players spread across Alliance, MidTN, and TPV (I haven't seen much of Ethos this year so no comment).

Side note:  Several college coaches have been at TPV's 16-18 practices to watch some players.  The college power conferences have been represented well at those practices.

Really? TPV management did not initiate any conversations? I thought it was pretty clear here in this thread (amongst the 4 or 5 of us) that they had? They may not have initiated contact with you / your player, but it was clear at the time that they were going after targeted Alliance kids, incentivizing them, with the hopes that others would follow.

    And it worked.

TPV management DID NOT initiate the conversation.  I'm sure they were excited once they were approached, but TPV did not initiate.  If you mean TPV showed up at tons of high school and middle school and were seen there more than any other club did, then you can call that targeting

I couldn't agree with Osage more.  I honestly don't get the politics part of complaints.  As I have stated so many times before, parents call it "politics" when they have a play time or position issue.    I could be completely naïve to this, but I have been around club/high school volleyball for a long time.  Not saying that a club doesn't make a decision around a relationship occasionally.  if I kid has been playing with a club for 6-7 years and they are pretty even with a brand new kid-- I would 100% give the nod to the family that has invested in that club.  Call that politics or whatever, it's good business.  I think TPV is doing a great job. Not sure their training is much different than Alliance or any other club, but regardless it's 100% a good thing they are here.   I don't like how it all went down, but that's life.

I agree also with coaching at the youngest ages.  IT HAS TO HAPPEN.   12-14 are critical years.   Alliances best coach in now the director, which hurts.   Alliances 16's are performing actually better than I anticipated and TPV's team is starting to get better.   Alliance 17's are also about where I would expect them to be.

TPV is pushing alliance to be better--and I think they will be.  Obviously Alliance has pushed TPV, other wise they wouldn't have raided a team that ALLIANCE PARTIALLY DEVELOPED.  Morgan, Shay, Claire, etc are all Alliance kids.

Ethos has helped middle TN volleyball.  MTN has helped.  They aren't nearly as strong as the others, but they have done good work.

To be crystal clear, the politics I mention have zero to do with playing time.  ZERO.  TPV did not raid Alliance as you put it. Those girls approached TPV AFTER they talked to Alliance.

If you don't think the training is different, just ask players who have been part of both programs, they'll tell you about the difference in training.

Agree with Clifford... watching from a distance, seems like most teams are performing in line with expectations, and I am surprised to hear people disappointed at the halfway mark of the season. The macro view, though, I guess could hide concerns specific families might have regarding playing time, role, etc.

@TT: do I assume correctly that these are Alliance families who will be playing for TPV next year? What do they think will be different when they make the move?

Osage: It is Alliance families but they have mentioned MidTN along with TPV.  Training and politics is the top reasons.  It's not playing time because these players are contributors to their team.
