The more I research Mayfield the weaker they look. Yes they are top 5 in all time wins, and so are 3 other from kentucky, and there is more in top 50, but its because the competition is so weak its easy to rack up wins. Why is there not a bunch of texas, alabama, Tennessee teams in the top 10? These are the 3 best football states. A great team in these states can't be in the top 10 cause the competition is so much stronger. A good team not even a great one in Kentucky can be that high if they have played that weak of competition for 100 years. I'm surprised the whole top ten ain't all Kentucky. There isn't a great team in the whole state of Kentucky. An above average team has a cakewalk cause 95% of Kentucky teams are horrendous. I'm surprised how few games Mayfield has won. By adding up wins, losses, and ties they have played close to 1,150 games. Against that weak of competition Mayfield should have well over a 1,000 wins if not 1,100. Why do they only have around 850? By looking up some of the teams they have played in the playoffs I can't find 1 great program they have faced. The only descent team they have played a lot is a team called Danville. Danville is 9-1 Against Mayfield. Does Mayfield have a lot of Championships, and impressive numbers? Yes, but it's apples to oranges comparing kentucky to Tennessee. They should have those type of credintials, actually they should have 30 Championships being in a small class in that joke of a state. Keep playing that weak competition, and beat that chest when you win I'm sure Mayfield will take over as the number 1 in all time wins in 20 years or so playing that schedule. They will lose at least 1 game every year if they keep playing UC. This year UC by 30+.

I agree.

If you want to see Mayfield past scores go to riherds scoreboard goes back quite a few years. I'll give some info on some of these teams these bottomfeeders feast off of every year. Ft Campbell=horrible only wins 2 or 3 games a year. Webster County the same maybe worse. Ballard usually win about 5 games and get beat in 2nd round I'd call them average at best. Marshall county below average as well win about 4 games and beat 1st round. Paducah Tilghman average team win about 7 and make it to about 3rd round. McCracken county above average but not great usually win 8 or 9 over bad competition then get beat 1st round, by the way they beat Mayfield 2 out of the last 3, and Mayfield barely won the other 1. Graves average win around 7 or so and make it a couple rounds except 1 fluke runner up year. Caldwell county above average they win most of the regular season games and are overhyped By wpsd then get beat down in 3rd round they underachieve alot, but has beat Mayfield a number of times the last 10 years. Murray already said about average run heavy team never beats mayfield but usually give them fits and keeps it close. They have played a team named Corbin but they are not local know nothing about them, but they have had a good record and made it to semis. Mayfield beat them last 2 years, but they where close especially last year Mayfield won by 1 point. I don't see a team on that schedule the last few years that UC wouldn't beat by 20. I'd say mayfield has played 3 teams above average a year. That is McCracken County, Caldwell County, and Corbin. None of them would be labeled great teams, and 2 of them Mccracken, and Caldwell have been beating Mayfield. Folks don't believe the hype on Mayfield.

Only team I can think of that is about as committed to the run as UC that Mayfield plays is Murray. They are an average team and they have gave Mayfield fits. A lot of close scores between the 2 till last year. UC will push them down the field no problems. I'm a fan of neither team just calling it like I see it. I'd love for a Mayfield fan to name 1 team that can run it near as good as UC that they have beaten lately, do I hear crickets.

Don't I feel like the village idiot. I had been told that Caldwell County had been the better program the last few years, but obviously the guy I knew that told me that must have been drinking. I looked back at the riherds scoreboard, and it looks like Mayfield has beaten Caldwell County the last 3 years, and 6 of the last 7 going back to 2010, with 2013 being the only year Mayfield lost to Caldwell 48-41. Could only find records of them playing from 06 till present, and Mayfield is 8-3 in that timeframe also losing in 08, and 09 to Caldwell. Maybe he was thinking about the 08, 09 timeframe when he told me Caldwell had the stronger program.

Not very truthful I see. Isn't a final four or runner up team about average by Mayfield standards? They also got beat badly in the finals, was there because the side of the bracket they was on was weak. The team that lost in the semis to the champ gave them a much better game than Mayfield. Heck the always mediocre Crittenden county was only beaten by 3 points by Mayfield. So do you not count the loss to Caldwell county that year? that would be 2 losses not 1 as you say. That was a very mediocre Caldwell team than hung it in y'alls ####. Everyone knows Caldwell County has taken over as the best small school program in western kentucky. Used to be Paducah Tilghman, then Mayfield, but now for about the last 5 years the best program is Caldwell, and that's a fact. They will beat you again this year just like they have spanked y'all a lot lately. Even in 2015 they spanked yall, but the refs took td's back on phantom calls to make sure y'all would win.

It was 2009 that Trousdale lost to an average Mayfield team @ Graves County 48-40. Looked up their schedule. If my memory serves me correctly my McCracken friends said Mayfield had a receiver that Trousdale County couldnt cover that went for 3 or 4 long touchdowns.

On a side note. I saw Mayfield play in 2010, lets hope that Mayfield isn't nowhere near as good as that team for a long time. Never seen a 1a team in TN as good as that Mayfield team.

Don't think McCracken has anything to do with Mayfield talent being down. Just like any small school you are going to have your up and down cycles. I don't think they ever have fbs prospect type players, just good solid players that might go to a Murray state at best, but I hear the talent coming up is lower than usual. Numbers is the big problem. They had to play a lot of 7th graders on the 8th grade team last year because they didn't even have 11 8th graders. By no means do I think they will not be good the next few years, cause I've never heard of a Mayfield team that wasn't at least above average, but they won't be as strong as the last few years, and definitely won't be as good as the teams they had from 2010-2012. Those teams where really good, but of course those teams had Jonathan Jackson on them that ended up at Murray state. Hear he left Mayfield as their all time leading rusher, and tackler. They don't get ones like him often. He probably would have went to a fbs college if he was a little bigger, but they won't have anyone like him for awhile if ever.

No Mayfield would not be ranked number 1 if they was still 1a. Beechwood who won the 1a title returns more than Mayfield. Mayfield has had some good teams the last 7 years, but they lose a lot of 3 year starters, and I'm hearing they don't have much coming up in the lower classes, and they don't have much in middle school right now. The talent will be down at least the next 5 years. I've heard some I know from mccracken say that Mayfield's run is over. I'm sure they will be back on top eventually, but I don't think they get past the semis for a few years. They have some really strong private schools in 2a that will handle Mayfield with ease, just like last year. They wouldn't win a title in 1a the next few years either. Beechwood couldn't get past Mayfield for years, but Mayfield talent was up Beechwood was down now the roles are reversed, and Beechwood is on the rise the next few years.

Well he may have shouldn't went there for a ring. They got the worst beating they have had since 09 last year in the semis. The team they had last year was supposed to be a lock, and was a senior heavy group. The Louisville private school that beat them was very young with a lot of sophomore stars. No way Mayfield wins 2a this year, and probably not for a few years with the 2 Louisville privates lurking. Next alignment will help Mayfield as those other 2 schools will most likely be 3a, that is unless the powers that be find a way to keep those 2 in 2a like they did in the last alignment as those are 3a schools, but the rules conveniently changed during the last alignment process, which helped them stay in 2a. -

Suprised no-one mentioned Morris out of Mayfield. He supposedly considered McCracken job, but decided to stay home at Mayfield. I hear he has enough time in he can retire, but in Kentucky you can't retire, and start a new retirement they won't let you double dip. If he where offered a job in Tennessee then he could start drawing retirement, and start another since its a different state. I've heard it said that he will probably never coach another team in kentucky, but if a Tennessee team called people think he would. -
The more I think about what these 2 return the more confident I am that Union City will win comfortably. Union city returns the farm, outside of Mayfield returning some lineman, and receivers they lose the rest. I don't see a team breaking in a brand new qb,rb, and linebackers posing much threat. Then the next year Mayfield loses their line, so I think Union City wins the next 2 years. Check out bluegrass preps even on there people think Mayfield will be ranked around 5th in 2a this year, which has not been the case over the last 5 or more years when they was always pretty much ranked #1.
-
Why am I not suprised, I've seen a few games at Caldwell county that the refs where not very good.
-
Must be common these days. I feel the officiating in kentucky is not very good.
-
Why? Are you expecting Tennessee refs to give you some extra help. If so thats sad.
-
I'd say Union City definitely has the athletes to matchup. Mayfield is undersized a lot of times, but we'll coached, and fundamentally sound. I've seen them in person a bunch over the years, and the 1 thing that sticks out is they never quit even when another team has them down they seem to find a way to come back and win.
-
I agree this is a good game for both schools. Almost identical enrollment, and only 30 minutes apart. Mayfield runs the spread offense, they switched to it around 10 years ago. Interesting fact Mayfield has the 4th most wins all time in the nation currently at about 860.
-
The last 4 years Mayfield has won 3 titles. They won 4 in a row from 2012-2015.
-
They won't be quite as good in 2017 IMO. They return most of their line, and recievers, but lose their qb, rb, and some good linebackers. They have been in the semis 36 times winning 12 titles, and 9 runner up. From 09 till 15 they went to 7 straight title games winning 5 of the last 6, with the last 4 in a row. Since 09 they are 111-8. The 2016 team was the team people where the most excited about, but lost in the semis, and finished 13-1. Yes people in Mayfield where not happy about how the 2016 season ended especially with their best Defensive player not getting to play in the loss due to being ejected for a helmet to helmet hit the prior week. The team that beat them had an awesome line, and it was a close game till late, but I think Union City is getting them at the right time with what they lost from that team.
