  1. Congrats to Peabody. A chance for a boy/girls sweep. That doesn't happen very often.
  2. What type of cheese would you like with that "whine"? In case you haven't noticed, one of the aspects of high school basketball is overcoming refs that are not the greatest in the world. Bet you've won some games and had a chance to get this far because the refs called a game poorly agianst one of your opponents at one point in the season. I am not an Ezell fan, but you have to take the good with the bad in HS basketball. That's just the way it goes.
  3. Congrats to WC from a CPA fan that was very impressed with their performance, spirit and talent in the CPA win. As I have said many times on these boards, when you get to the final 16, any team can win as evidenced today by Temple's loss and WC's win. It's all about who comes to play and executes their game the best. Good luck to Ezell and WC in the Final Four.
  4. The answer to the original question is: Yes, they have what it takes and so do 7 other teams. Watch the NCAA this weekend and you will see favorites winning and underdogs winning. That is basketball. Get overconfident, play bad, have an off night, miss free throws, and you lose. Stay focused, play hard, shoot well, make free throws and you win. Temple and Middelton are the best teams in the state. But that won't guarantee the tourney for them.
  5. The refs let both teams play and it was a physical game, but there were a lot of uncalled fouls on both teams. That type of game usually favors CPA as they like to play pressure defense, but WC just got more rebounds and loose balls. Don't blame the refs. WC deserved to win.
  6. You could have made a $1 million on a preseason bet that CPA girls would make the state instead of the boys team. Go get em', girls. Congrats on a good season, boys. WC played a great game. They got more loose balls, offensive rebounds, and handled CPA's press well resulting in a lot of easy baskets.
  7. Congratulations, Ezell for making the state. Also, we hope you represent District 9 well. Congratulations, MP, on a good season. After seeing WC play tonight, it is impressive that you beat them in Region, but of course, CPA beat Ezell and couldn't handle WC. Go figure! As I have said before, when it gets down to the final 16, any team can beat another if they have a good night and the other team lets up a bit.
  8. As a CPA fan, I want to congratulate Wayne County on making the state tourney. They are a really good team and played a good game against CPA. Their fans were great as were the CPA fans. Nice atmosphere at CPA tonight - a lot of fun. WC surprised me with their quickness and their coach obviously did a good job of preparing his team for CPA's pressure. CPA caused turnovers but WC did a great job of handling the pressure and converted a lot of easy baskets after they beat the press. Nutt and the other guards are very quick and better than the CPA guards tonight. WC was as quick as CPA and a much better rebounding team. Bottom line - WC was better tonight and deserved to win. Theu were the best team I have seen CPA play this year except Temple.
  9. Congratulations to the CPA Lion girls! First time in history of school to make State Tourney. Freshmen making free throws in the 4th quarter to seal the win. You gotta love it.
  10. If this is true, it does not bode well for WC against CPA. CPA's game is quickness at every position and nonstop fullcourt pressure for 32 minutes. They aren't tall, but they are all quick athletes who never tire. Better protect the ball, WC, or it will be a long night.
  11. Ezell is very balanced with size, quickness, experience and good shooters. I was surprised they lost to CPA but at this point in the year, teams are basically even. I'm sure MP is very good and I was a bit surprised they beat WC on a neutral floor. You can't predict a winner at this point because the team that wins will be the one who plays their game better on a given night, keeps key players out of foul trouble, eliminates big mistakes, and makes free throws. All teams in the round of 16 can beat any other team that is still standing on a given night. You just hope your team doesn't have an "off night" or they are done for the year.
  12. After seeing Temple against my CPA team, I have to pick Temple. Even though we played poorly, they had a lot to do with that and still probably would have won if we had played well. The only thing that might hurt Temple is their winning streak. Sometimes it helps to lose a tough game now and then. Their #1 ranking is not an overrating. They are tough. Proud of CPA though coming back from a few year end losses to really good teams to win the region. Tough schedules and a few losses help a team in the tourney. All games from here on are tough ones. Go, Lions!
  13. I saw McEwen play a great game against CPA earlier in the year, and I have seen Puckett play at least once a year for 4 years. They are to be congratulated and he is a very good player. Why can't we just congratulate the kids and understand that good teams have bad games, and face good teams that have good games and you lose from time to time? Only one team wins it all and a lot of very good teams lose on the way. CPA missed a free throw late in the semis against Grace last year and had to go home, but that is basketball and we were all very proud of them. They didn't win it all, but they were "winners". I believe McEwen's team is a "winner" as well.
  14. It's simple. Whoever plays their game better will win. It is an even matchup. An off night and you lose or on top of your game and you win. One advantage CPA has is that they can have an off shooting night and still win with defense. Pitto and Duke must continue to shoot well for Ezell to win. That is the key to the game. The District final game won last week by Ezell was as close a game as you could ask for, with CPA going stone cold in the 4th quarter after leading most of the game.
  15. I agree about Hawley. But Carroll does so many little things to help his team it is uncanny sometimes. ER held to 18 points in the 1st half. That's tough defense!
