  1. Here is something that could bee done. I know all AAA coaches are not happy with the condition of the regions. After some research, looking at a state map, and using common sense here is what the regions could look like. My thought behind how I split it up: There are 93 teams in AAA across the state, and geographically they may be split evenly between the state, but not by numbers. 8 teams in region 4, but 17 in region 7?? At the min. split the regions evenly. At 93 teams that would mean 5 regions would have 12 and 3 would have 11. It wouldn't be that hard to split up differently for individuals. If split evenly and then also paying attention to geographic location second the regions would look like (underlined schools would be added teams or moved teams. Region 1: 1. Cocke Co. High School (Newport, TN) 2. Daniel Boone High School (Gray, TN) 3. David Crockett High School (Jonesborough, TN) 4. Dobyns Bennett High School (Kingsport, TN) 5. Jefferson Co. 2. Also needs to happen, I'm sure region 7 and 6 coaches and fans would agree! (this is off last year TSSAA info but not much as changed) "Take a look at region 4, I am sure several individuals will like them 3 splitting into two different regions. (FYI: just copied this off my original post.) What needs to be told to TSSAA is that more focus needs to be centered on equal region/district dividing than school location, for this works perfect for other sports. I mean there are 94 teams in AAA across the state, and geographically they may be split evenly between the state, but not by numbers. 8 teams in region 4, but 17 in region 7?? At the min. split the regions evenly. With the current 93 teams (93 next year due to Knoxville Catholic High school dropping to D2) that would mean 5 regions would have 12 and 3 would have 11. 3. I stated it last year and I'll state it again this year! What if there are three post-season individual tournaments just like duals? Label this weekend coming up region as it is, send the top 4 on to the following weekend to "sub-state" and then send top 4 to the state tournament. There will be 8 regions (same teams as current regions) then combine 1 and 2, 3 and 4, 5 and 6, and 7 and 8. Making 4 sub-states, then the top 4 finishers go to state making it a 16 man bracket at state. The need for a 32 man bracket is a joke. It was fine before the A-AA AAA split. Normally there are 16 kids that shouldn't be in the AAA state tournament per weight class. Make it so the sub state teams split the cost to cover the 6ish refs needed for the tournament (sub state can be ran on 3 mats easily). Do this by making each wrestler pay $10. $10*8*14=$1120 (8 man bracket and 14 weight classes) and refs will cost about $180 (I think)*6=$1080. If a team only has 1 wrestler make it that team will pay $10, if two then team pays $20. The extra $40 can help the hosting team pay for extra cost of janitors or anything else. Hosting teams will get gate and concessions; rotate between schools alphabetically every year to determine hosting team. Lastly, I know this will cause post season to begin a week early because I am thinking we can't push it back a week due to a D2 event.
  4. Check again on Bradley and beech. Ya their match number didn't change, but their location did.
  5. Well in their defense science hill, Wilson Central and Cleveland had to stay in the same places. Which means the runner up of each region has to go in the other half of the bracket. That being said, the only spots that did not change between the first release and final bracket was the region 8 places that were left open on the first one. So I don't know where you got that 5 of the 7 didn't change.
  6. Okay, so now it looks like: R1- Science Hill, Tennessee High R2- Halls, Sevier County R3- Heritage, Maryville R4- Cleveland, Bradley R5- Blackman, Tullahoma R6- Wilson Central, Beech R7- R8- Region 8 isn't wrestling tonight. Waiting for 7. Also, 8 will be Arlington and someone.
  7. Shocking, that should not be allowed. I'm guessing it was Bradley in the finals with them?
  8. I know several regions will be wrestling their region duals tonight; curious what teams from each region will be making the trip next week to Franklin for State Duals. Also, what teams made it out of their districts?
  9. Well now we know you are a Halls father. LOL But to the other topic, Let this give some perspective with how wrestling compares to other sports. Here are high school locations for all high schools that had football this year: http://portal.tssaa.org/common/classification/?schoolYear=2017&sportid=1 Here are high school locations for all high schools that had boys basketball this year: http://portal.tssaa.org/common/classification/?schoolYear=2017&sportid=2 Here are high school locations for all high schools that had girls volleyball this year: http://portal.tssaa.org/common/classification/?schoolYear=2017&sportid=6 Than, here are high school locations for all high schools that had wrestling this year: http://portal.tssaa.org/common/classification/?schoolYear=2017&sportid=7 See the difference? And, scrolling down below the A-AA division and click the little map next to Class AAA. It will highlight the regions for AAA in different colors. However, here is the clear cut break down for how the 8 regions should be split. Take a look at region 4, I am sure several individuals will like them 3 splitting into two different regions. (FYI: just copied this off my original post.) What needs to be told to TSSAA is that more focus needs to be centered on equal region/district dividing than school location, for this works perfect for other sports. 10. If track is correct I'm thinking 393 teams.
  11. You have a better chance of getting pigs to build their own plane to fly, and flying it. Before you get TSSAA to combine all divisions again. So, save your breathe, that's not happening, move on. We as coaches have to find a way to fix this without combining divisions. Also, having 18 kids medal per weight class out of 200+ possible kids isn't giving everyone a medal. It is a hard road to get one, trust me, I have personal experience.
  12. That sounds perfect, but agreed it would be logistical nightmare year to year. I mean there are 94 teams in AAA across the state, and geographically they may be split evenly between the state, but not by numbers. 8 teams in region 4, but 17 in region 7?? 13. So, going through looking at the AAA region brackets, and wow they are sad. Regions 1,2, and 3 average 8-9 kids a team, and region 4 isn't much better. So, for a region of only 8-10 teams that means some weight classes are just sending the 4 guys that were weighed in for that weight class, and maybe 1-2 are staying home. The term "state qualifier" has no more weight behind it. IDEAS: What if there are three post-season individual tournaments just like duals? Thats a lot info, but something needs to happen! It will be a big change, but something needs to happen before the TSSAA wrestling falls all apart!
  14. IMO I disagree jsamson7. I have seen a lot of tough kids come out thinking pre game match and get beat, the 3 days of making weight be a mental struggle, and the pressure being more in dual? I disagree because if you slack 10% in a dual you have a teammate that can wrestle 110% and make up for that difference. If you only give 90% in the individual tournament you have no one to pick you up, and no one to toss blame on. I believe that is more pressure than a dual, but again that's my own personal opinion!
  15. Okay, but question what about Wyoming Seminary? Or we trying to keep that hush hush? Congrats though never questioned Cleveland winning. Going back to predictions on the other board, had them running away with it!
