Sorry I misinterpreted/ took out of context "The whole defensive line is the problem" from a conversation with Roller. I don't see any real issues with the bears, just clarifying I think you are too even keeled to be MJGB.

Ah, I see. I meant a problem for other teams...  The defensive line is very good.

I am not convinced just yet that it is him. He actually down talked the bears defense in another thread. I think most of us would agree that MJGB is too prideful to ever do that and entirely to cocky to say that any area of the team could use improvement, but I have been fooled before.

If I down talked Mt. Juliet's defense, I didn't mean to. Their defense is really, really good.

I did say I think their kicking game has taken steps back in recent years and again this year. As a whole though, this years Mt. Juliet team SEEMS to be better than last years team. It will be interesting to see how the wing-t does, I am personally not a big fan of it but it may have been the best decision considering it does not seem as if the new quarterback is capable of making a lof of throws.

How do you feel about MJ kicking game & special teams? Name the last year or decade they were down on their kicking abilities? Can they be the difference?

Their special teams is always great as a whole, but their kicking game is actually a little bit down this year compared to most years. Losing Wilhouit has hurt their kicking game..   It is still better than most teams, but it isn't elite any more.

But Perry is a great special teams coach, their ability to block kicks / punts on special teams could be the difference. They blocked several kicks against Lebanon last year and would have blocked more but they stopped going for them once they got a large lead. If Lebanon wants to have any chance to pull the upset they can not allow that to happen again.

go to the 7th page on Coacht 5a-6a football board.. Riverdale @Mt Mt Juliet thread... and read that thread... it will take a while... but it is some funny stuff.

I just read the first 23 pages..  I may go back later and finish. Did he ever come back and say anything? I got to the point of the game ending and everyone talking about him eating crow, haha. I don't know if I can read much more because that night royally sucked.

Last year he was quite boastful and a bit cocky... Fans told him that Mt Juliet had been having a good season, but they also had not played a real tough schedule.... he was quick to let everyone know that they would be in the championship round after handly beating riverdale... It got ugly from there and he really ran his mouth....and by the end of it all he swore if Mt Juliet lost he would never be on again and would delete his account... so a little crow to eat...

Thanks, that's pretty good. I may try and find those to see if I can go back and read to see if I can figure out who it is and if I know him in real life, just for my own knowledge.

Mj's offense will be the strongest they faced.

It certainly will be, but Lebanon will be by far the toughest defense Mt. Juliet has faced. I expect Mt. Juliet to win comfortably but that is mostly because I expect them to be able to score a fair amount of points, somewhere in the 20's or low 30's, and am not sure Lebanon can even crack double digits.

Like I said, I won't be surprised if it is closer though. This is the best team Lebanon has had in a long time and I think they could have played Mt. Juliet closer last season if it wasn't played in a down pour.

I am going to be one of the outliers on this subject...I think Lebanon hangs close on this one. ... may not win it but should be good game

I could see it. Neither defense has given much in the first two weeks..   A close, low scoring game wouldn't be too surprising.

They only had 2 players that really stood out to me as being on that level. But I've also only seen 1 game this year. Reggie Grimes is a big time prospect already with offers from Alabama , Georgia, LSU, Ohio State etc. He can be a beast on both sides of the ball but on defensive side of the ball he was just bullying their linemen. And he is just a Junior I believe. The other kid was a DB/RB and I believe he was #4 (Rutland?) and he stood out on defense and special teams with several deflections/tight coverage and blocked a field goal and then blocked another but Overton called timeout right at the snap.

For strengths I would say they play smart team football and are well coached. They have good depth can rotate guys in frequently without much dropoff. They have speed at the skill positions. They use that speed on offense to create misdirections and fakes. And special teams they tore Overton up on Special teams. They had some good returns, a blocked fg (another on a dead play) and twice got their hands on punts which led to short punts.

For weaknesses I would say the offensive line and passing game. Overton was able to consistently get into their backfield. Yeah I was kinda unimpressed by the blocking up front. Grimes had several runs where he got hit in the backfield and still was able to turn it into 5-10 yards. Their QB is fast but didn't look that great as a passer. They had a play where a miscommunication left a MJ receiver wide open and he threw a short lob and by the time it got their the DB had time to come across the field and break it up.

They might be a little better than last year. But still nowhere near good enough to challenge somebody like Oakland come playoff time.

I agree with all of this. #4 is Ruttlen and he's a difference maker in all three phases..  I don't know if he has college offers but he should.

I think they are better than they were last year as well but I agree, still not in Oakland territory.

Roller, What do you think the strengths and weaknesses for MJ are? I have not been to a game in 3 years living up in KY and my son at WKU.

I have heard they have about 34 D-1 prospects and have a talented team. I just haven't seen them play or seen any film.

I'm not Roller, but the defenisve line for Mt. Juliet is a major problem. Reggie Grimes gets all the talk, but isn't even the best one on the team. Tristan Kilmon in the middle is an absolute beast..   He was Wilson County player of the week in week 1 with 5 tackles for loss on just 9 snaps.

Their entire defense is really, really good. Then offensively, their ability to be interchangable at both the tailback and wingback positions is pretty vital. They have a lot of guys they can rotate in and out. It is tough to even keep up with who is in the game on offense because they have so many different athletes they plug in there. Growing up and living in Mt. Juliet now, I am biased, but no one is touching them in 4-6A.

As for this week, I think 31-6 Mt. Juliet.
