  1. Hey Picker you hit the nail on the head. The college coach does not go by the team he goes by the individual and a girl who performs well in difficult situations may get a higher rating than one who had a perfect defense behind her all the time. They like to see how a pitcher handles all sorts of situations. Can she keep it together when things aren't going well? They do not look at a teams win and loss they look at individual performances. I think you really don't know about the recruiting process until you have been through it. They will also promise you the moon and hang you out to dry! If you can't handle Clifford Kirk at Soddy you better be careful what type of college coach you choose because you are bought and paid for!!!
  2. Honestly I do not expect anyone from chattanooga to get an offer from UCLA or Michigan anywhere in the near future. SEC schools maybe but they better be prepared to red shirt or do some sitting. That is why you must weigh a lot of factors before you choose. If you are fortunate enough to get an offer make sure it is what you really want to do and where you want to be. Superstars in high school have to start all over there freshman year in college. It is a whole new ballgame!!!!
  3. It could have been before 1997. I really don't remember the year and she may have looked taller by keeping her hair all piled up. I just remember one weekend at Warner Park in Chattanooga watching her and she was impressive. I am going to keep on and give up my age and I don't want to do that. I remember watching Rocky pitch high school ball. Didn't she go to Georgia also?
  4. Yes I do know who your daughter is and she was a great athlete. I had the pleasure of watching the Nashville Eagles play and they were one heck of a team. There was a very tall girl with brown hair and she kept it piled on top of her head all the time she pitched for the Eagles and I have always wanted to know her name. She was really good do you know who I am talking about?
  5. The game usually starts at 6 and they do play 2. This game is a fundraiser for the 18u Frost Falcons team. I just thought some of you may not know but this is how it all got started with Stump and the coach of that team.
  6. Congratulations to her! She is smart to find the right fit and not jump on the first thing. After all it is 4 years of her life.
  7. I know it is not an easy thing to get a full ride. I have been through this with my daughter and I get asked my advice a lot and I hope I have been helpful. You don't want to jump on the first thing but I think Herb said Brittany was so excited she was ready to sign. She loves the game of softball and really wants to play at the college level. It is hard to get a full ride offer especially if the school is out of state and this early in the season. Regardless of who, or where it is it's a compliment for a girl to get the offer. And exactly most of the "full rides" come to pitchers and catchers. Your daughter must have been one heck of a ball player. Did she have an enjoyable experience with college ball?
  8. I totally agree with everything you are saying. Most of the recruiting is done from the summer teams anyway and there is no award or honor going to say as much as a coach watching you perform. As for Rice I think that is a good thing because her school team is not as successful as some ot the others. I also heard that Ooltewah's second baseman Casey Saunders has had some attention this summer and will get offers and I think maybe already has had 2. She is another really good player that does not get the attention she deserves. She really hit the ball well for Ooltewah this year and has continued on with her summer team. What does it matter where the offer is from? There are some girls that would love to go on and play at the next level that are probably good enough but for whatever reason don't get the opportunity. The Michigan, UCLA thing was in response to Wilson 25 being cute and saying the offer for Britt was from Michigan because Rhonda did not tell me where the offer came from. She just said it was a really exciting thing for Britt to open the email and the offer to be there. I am sure it would be for any girl. I think you need to weigh in the factor too how important is playing time. If you go to a "big" school you better be ready to sit a while as a freshman. And, it's all about the education anyway. I just think it is great the opportunities that are out there for the girls that play fastpitch to be able to go and get that education because of ball! I will find out where it came from and if it is that big of a deal and anyone wants to know just say so and I will find out and post it later. I am sure thay will tell me it was just presented as Hey, she got her first full ride offer and it was just an exciting time for that family. Too bad some people can't just be happy for them. I know Herb Rice thinks it is a wonderful thing when a girl gets a softball scholarship. He does not care who they are or where the offer is from he loves to hear about it and so do I!!! By the way my daughter did not go on to play college ball and she wishes she had.
  9. It looks like a really good line up to me. No matter what anyone tries to do someone is going to feel left out you cannot make everyone happy. It is a good problem to have though. Lots of good softball players from all across Tennessee.
  10. I hope they do get offers like that it would make me proud because they are from Chattanooga. Good Luck to all the girls that really work hard and want to go on and play college ball. I hope they find a good "fit" for them. Don't forget grades are important too it doesn't matter how good you are if you don't make the grade you may not be able to go anywhere!
  11. Wow. her mom didn't tell me that. I guess bucket carrying Mr. Rice's hours sitting on that bucket catching her have paid off. LOL!!! Good Luck to Brittany I am sure this is one of many offers she will have to choose from and I hope she has a great senior year next year and goes to college and does great! Wilson get over your bitterness, grow up, and wish the girl some luck. What in the world has she done to you? And to think this is the support she gets from the Ooltewah fan base. Jealousy, Jealousy. Oh I forgot you are a Soddy fan! Yeah Right!!!!
  12. I did not ask her mom probably a jr. college or D2 school because I don't think the other schools can talk to the girls until July.
  13. It's a local cable program and the girls are from Tennessee and Georgia so why does it need to be so specific? What is the problem? Does someone feel like they are being left out? Call Stump Martin and maybe he will be glad to expand on it. He does the same thing for our local football and baseball teams. I'm sure he would love to "network" into other areas.
  14. Picker Where have you been? Rice's mom told me she threw really well in South Carolina last weekend and got her first offer. Ignore all of these idiots and don't get caught up in it. Listen to Indian JEALOUSY makes people act stupid!!!! And sometimes so does softball. I remember when I used to coach volleyball and we had this one girl that was really awesome the poor kid was in tears all the time because of things people would say about her.
  15. Rice's parents have probably never even seen this site. You people are so lame! Get a life!
  16. You will not get an argument from me I have been saying all along it takes a whole team and not just a pitcher. However we are usually judged on our last performance and I believe Troglin is in that position right now as far as a performance for your school team. She holds the honor of being # 1 until someone takes it away from her. Maybe they will next school season and maybe they won't. I certainly know having a really good team around you makes a big difference in a pitching performance. Congrats to Waters on her award. And yes they all work very hard. It is not easy being a pitcher.
  17. She was on Clifford's team not Chattin's and it was 98-99.
  18. I remember a lot of the stuff that used to go on as a matter of fact my daughter pitched for the Falcons one year when Clifford coached them. I think what you are talking about was even before that but it could get really nasty. The # 1 pitcher right now in Chattanooga is Troglin she got the job done when it counted. Fairbanks is #2 and Waters is # 3 she probably would have been 2 if not for her injury. Just toss the others up and see where they fall We seem to judge a lot on team accomplishments shouldn't Vercoe Be # 1? Didn't she pitch her team to 3 state titles? Do we consider the level of competition game in and game out? There is a lot to be analyzed. Chattanooga softball ain't what it used to be! Rice shouldn't even be on the list. What did Ooltewah do this year? Oh Yeah I forgot I'm supposed to be her mama!! She is the most overrated pitcher in Tennessee. Her pitches don't move and she is a big smart aleck there what else can you say? Oh Yeah her family is after Nelson's job don't forget that one.
  19. Gannon I thought your daughter didn't play for Ooltewah. Oh Yeah she didn't she sat. Sorry for the confusion.
  20. Fraser was there when LeAnne Mongar was and didn't get a lot of credit. She pitched some good games that I watched. I have given this a lot of thought and I am leaning heavily towards Leah Tucker as being the best all around to come from Ooltewah as far as pitching does anyone remember the name of the girl that led Ooltewah to that first state title under Jim Lovell. I think her last name was Roark but I am not sure.
  21. And you sure said a mouthful. "Players" leave issues at home or at school when they step on the softball field. By the way Dana Kirtley played a great game last night!
  22. I know Kevin Burke and Crystal Rice and they are both fine young people and were great athletes when they played at Ooltewah.
  23. Congratulations to Soddy and Red Bank Good Luck to both.
  24. Please close this thread it is getting ridiculous The Rice's are good people and I know if they knew this they would not like it. I can't believe all the "hoopla" one kid can cause. And before ya'll go starting a family feud there are a lot of Rice Kids!!HAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!
