That was one of the most complete teams i have seen all year in Page, incredible home field atmosphere when they are rolling but for the love of all that is Holy the car horns blaring all night, Wow! Great moment after the game as well when the Page players and Rebel players gathered as one to pray! Good Luck the rest of the way, i see another shot at state title this year!

I'm surprised Tullahoma has had the year they have had. Saying that, it kind of worries me that-that success may give them added confidence. Nolensville has their program running strong now and though I'm glad we have Tullahoma and not them, I'm still leery for tomorrow night.

If we are fortunate enough to win tomorrow, Shelbyville is making me weary. I think I would rather us face off against Centennial even though they will be better prepared and ready for revenge. However, I'm just glad we won't have to face Henry County till the next week if they get past Southwind.

Seems to me that a lot of these programs are dominant now with yearly runs in the playoffs supporting success. If we do make it all the way back to the championship game this year, I do think we will be the underdog like the last two years. But, it shows how far we have come!

I didn't/wasnt and wont  say   That teams in region don't schedule tough teams out of district. I said and say if you team/school plays in region 6 you do not have to schedule them to toughen up your team for the playoffs. By seasons end you are tough already.

If you look the day the new regions were announced everyone was talking about  it. It may not always be that way but in the next few years I just don't see that changing.

Excellent post. Makes sense and aligns with other posts made for years regarding that region. See the following quoted posts.

You don’t have to go through all that trouble.

Just become buddies with a couple of guys in the T$$AA and have them pick out the worst possible teams in your area, form a region and put you in it.

Then, look around for the worst possible teams around you (can even be single A or even an 0 for 40 5A Spring Hill) for your out of region schedule.

Now, you will have a false sense of pride and some may even mock your team as paper champions but just ignore them.

Then wala, your team can make the playoffs every year with high odds to make it to round two. However, just know you wont make it past the second round because your team wont know how to compete at a high level due to not facing much competition through the regular season.

0/0 you are welcome. Hope that helps.

Actually that's exactly what it means.. Granted "successful" is a term that is subjective. I guess it's relative to the amount of success you're used to having. Really good football teams don't lose in the first round.

But if you ask this fan bases who are accustomed to winning seasons, they'll tell you regular season wins mean nothing as long as you get enough of them to get into the playoffs. An undefeated team losing in the first round is an upset and underwhelming no matter how you try to spin it.

I'd bet good money that if you asked players and coaches on that undefeated Loretto team if they're satisfied or happy with that season, 99% of them will say no.

    Hohenwald

Yep. You have to schedule a tough out of conference schedule to see where you stack up against competition. You can’t help who is in your region, but you can out of region.

    Hohenwald

    1 hour ago, sportsnutz said:

Regardless of what they tell themselves, they still lost to the 4th best team in the other Region as an undefeated 1-seed. If you don't admit to yourself at that point that you were only undefeated because you didn't play anyone, then you're just lying to yourself. A 1st round loss to a team that, by their own fans' admission, is the worst team they've had in 10+ years ain't gonna cut it. Good teams don't lose those games. And using "R6 is really strong" as an excuse don't fly because you can't acknowledge that one might be strong without saying that another could be weak. R5 was a weak sauce region this year without any actually "good" teams.

    Hohenwald

However, some programs are just proud to boast a sign as visitors come into the (stadium) displaying 9-2 and 10-1 or even 10-2 regular season records. To them, that’s all that really matters. Hence, Bud Kilmer.

Just because Loretto (10-1) and Clarksville (10-1) lost last night doesn't change the fact that they had successful seasons and were good football teams.

Exactly! This bodes Even for teams with 8-2 and/or 9-1 regular season records such as Hohenwald.

Have to wonder if they scheduled better competition during the season if they would be more competitive and maybe win more in the postseason. Of course, it may also impact the season W/L records.

@BIGPURPLEMACHINEtrying to call the kettle black? Thing is, I’ve never negated a kid on here, ever! Evidently, that’s you!

Working on that paperwork to move to 4A during the next reclassification?

Not throwing salt in the wound but Loretto competition was very weak this season. Good regular season run but a blind man could see Peabody beating them. I’m just keeping it real

Loretto had a good run this year! Just happened to have swapped places with Hohenwald.

YOU DON’T BEAT BOBBY SHARP AT BOBBY SHARP FIELD!!!!

Milan can and did coach circles around that LC staff.

TUNE IN NEXT YEAR TO THE SAME STATION FOR THE SAME RESULT. @Pizzpatriot2 and I will always be happy to provide the extensive case study on those Paper Panther Champions from Lewis Co!

They’ve got those basketballs aired up!

In the history of all the early round exits for Hohenwald , I don’t think there has ever been a 10-0 or 9-1 Hohenwald to get so thrashed so bad in the very first round! That was just awful; I mean to be 9-1 and not just get beat in the first round but get totally blown out by a multiple loss team!

I guess Loretto is gone again.

Well, have to give them credit though. They ran the table not only for the region but were undefeated for the regular season, against everyone. This includes perennial paper champion Hohenwald. So, have to give credit where it is due.

Congrats to all of the Region 6 teams on advancing in the playoffs tonight.  Region 5 is still a good region it's just tough that they were paired with such a strong region.

Anyone else have the feeling R5 was designed to be extremely weak? Don’t forget that both Riverside and Chapel Hill used to be in it. Is anyone surprised that those two teams are no longer in it? I mean, no one would have ever expected Loretto to have a breakout year. Had it not been for them, who would have won R5 this year? Now, I’m not advocating a conspiracy here but, had tradition followed, who would have traditionally won R5 in this region in this set up?

If Loretto has another banner year next year, who will replace them in R5 when they are moved to R6?

  11. to reclaim their traditional role of early round exits! After breaking the mold last year and making it past the second round, it seems they are BACK to zero or one loss seasons only to be dropped in the early rounds! This year, it happens to be in the first. Unfortunately, because of Loretto being a surprise team, they were not gifted the regional championship. For the entire season, they went 2-2 against teams with winning records for the ENTIRE season (including playoffs). This includes scheduling a two and thirty team from over there in Memphis. Now, this is nothing new and stretches back decades. Going all the way back to 1990,

     http://www.ahsfhs.org/tennessee/teams/gamesbyyear.asp?Team=Lewis County&Year=1990

when they were in the old AA classification out of A, AA and AAA, they had five AA region games and one AA non-region game. Four out of five of NON region games were against single A teams! Lol lost two of them!

Then, was it just a few years ago they barely beat a 5-4 Chapel Hill 7-0 to capture their last paper championship? Then, this year as with most, to be perennially ranked all season in the top 10 of the state week in and week out only to be bounced right out of the gate, like usual!

I surmise it is safe to say (in John Wick tone) “yeah”, they are “back”. Over and under of which round next year’s bounce will be?

  14. Even though I have not watched either team play, I bet this will be a decent game. I give Milan the slight edge, however. Reason being is that they are more experienced at playing harder teams.

@BIGPURPLEMACHINE Looks like y’all will have to wait two full years before you can move up to 4A. But, even then, unless Covid or something similar hits, competition is still going to be rife with challenges. However, enrollment numbers and cutoffs could change by then. Keep your head held high my friend; Milan may one day return to glory once again.
