  1. No sir, I was talking about your Jeff County prediction that I put in bold. They got knocked out as well by Boone.
  2. Region 1 semifinals tonight in Morristown sees D-B vs. Sevier County and Science Hill vs. South Doyle. I would think Sevier Co. and Science Hill would be heavy favorites, but I honestly didn't see D-B beating Mo. East either, especially by 17.
  3. So Daniel Boone pulls off the upset over Jefferson County in the semifinals in triple overtime. Obviously the region title will go to Science Hill now, especially since it is going to be played on the Lady Hilltoppers home court now.
  4. Is the Cloudland/North Greene region championship game still being played in Morristown or has it been moved closer to District-1 territory?
  5. Region 1-AAA tournament begins on Saturday at the higher seeds before moving to Morristown East on Tuesday and Thursday for the semifinals and finals. Bracket: Quarterfinals at higher seed (February 29): D1 1 Science Hill vs. D2 4 Jefferson County D2 2 South Doyle vs. D1 3 David Crockett D1 2 Dobyns-Bennett vs. D2 3 Morristown East D2 1 Sevier County vs. D1 4 Tennessee High Semifinals at Morristown East (March 3): Science Hill/Jefferson County winner vs. South Doyle/David Crockett winner Dobyns-Bennett/Morristown East winner vs. Sevier County/Tennessee High winner Finals at Morristown East (March 5): Semifinals winners Predictions? Thoughts? Who advances to sectionals? Who wins the tournament? I'm going to go with Science Hill, Morristown East, Sevier County and my upset special David Crockett to go to the semis. Why is Morristown East not considered an upset special? Unfortunately, D-B suffered a key injury in Dennis before the district tournament and he is out for the remainder of the season. You can already tell that it has affected the Tribe immensely. And also, I have heard that East is playing the best ball out of anyone on the D2 side at the moment. Science Hill is going to be hard to beat in this tournament. David Crockett is a fun team to watch. Hackler for them is automatic from 15 feet in. Sevier County is the clear best team from the D2 side. To the finals and therefore the sectionals, I am going with Science Hill and Morristown East with the homecourt advantage. I am picking Science Hill to win the tournament however. Can't wait for Saturday. Should be some good basketball played. Good luck to all the teams involved and safe travels.
  6. Tournament begins Friday night at the higher seeds and then moves to Morristown East on Monday and Wednesday of next week for the semifinals and finals. Bracket: Quarterfinals at higher seed (February 28): D1 1 Science Hill vs. D2 4 Cocke County D2 2 Sevier County vs. D1 3 Dobyns-Bennett D1 2 Daniel Boone vs. D2 3 Morristown West D2 1 Jefferson County vs. D1 4 David Crockett Semifinals at Morristown East (March 2): Science Hill/Cocke County winner vs. Sevier County/Dobyns-Bennett winner Daniel Boone/Morristown West winner vs. Jefferson County/David Crockett winner Finals at Morristown East (March 4): Semifinal winners Predictions? Thoughts? Who advances to sectionals? I will go with Science Hill, Sevier County, Daniel Boone and Jefferson County in the semifinals. Science Hill and Jefferson County in the finals and Science Hill to win the tournament. It would not surprise me to see District 1 take 3 out of 4 however as District 2 seems to be down with the exception of Jefferson County. Crockett is playing their worst ball of the season right now at the worst time. D-B seems to be a "Jeckyll and Hyde" team. Play great one game and stink up the floor the next, so you never what you're going to get with them. It's hard to beat Boone in Bobby Snyder and their fans love the Lady Blazers, so that place will be rocking on Friday night. Science Hill is the clear favorite to win the tournament. They're just simply better than all the other teams in the bracket. And I say that not really knowing anything about the D2 teams except for Jeff County who I saw twice this year. I will be travelling to the D-B/Sevier County game on Friday. Which way would be the best way to go coming down I-81? Taking exit 407 off of 40? Or coming in the back way through Newport and by the Bush's factory? Good luck to all the teams and looking forward to some good basketball this weekend.
  7. Final regular season standings: Science Hill 12-0 Daniel Boone 9-3 Dobyns-Bennett 9-3 Volunteer 5-7 David Crockett 4-8 Tennessee High 3-9 Cherokee 0-12 District Tournament Bracket Monday, February 17: 6 Tennessee High vs. 7 Cherokee Tuesday, February 18 Tennessee High/Cherokee winner vs. 3 Dobyns-Bennett 4 Volunteer vs. 5 David Crockett Friday, February 21 Tennessee High/Cherokee/Dobyns-Bennett winner vs. 2 Daniel Boone Volunteer/David Crockett winner vs. 1 Science Hill Saturday, February 22 Third place game Championship game
  8. Scores from last night: Happy Valley 56, Cherokee 52 Dobyns-Bennett 77, Daniel Boone 61 Science Hill 59, David Crockett 40 Tennessee High 74, Volunteer 69 District Standings after 2-4-20 games: Science Hill 9-1, 26-2 Dobyns-Bennett 7-3, 13-11 Tennessee High 7-4, 20-8 David Crockett 6-4, 16-8 Daniel Boone 6-5, 13-10 Cherokee 1-9, 9-17 Volunteer 0-10, 4-18 No upsets last night as all the favorites won. Science Hill can clinch the regular season title on Friday night in the Dome. The battle for second in the district will come down to the final night of district play as four teams can get the spot. Friday's slate: Volunteer at Cherokee David Crockett at Daniel Boone Science Hill at Dobyns-Bennett (non district) Sullivan Central at Tennessee High
  9. Last night's scores: Happy Valley 48, Cherokee 19 Daniel Boone 42, Dobyns-Bennett 37 Science Hill 62, David Crockett 35 Volunteer 47, Tennessee High 37 Standings after 2-4-20 games: Science Hill 10-0, 19-7 Dobyns-Bennett 8-2, 20-8 Daniel Boone 8-3, 15-9 Volunteer 4-6, 13-13 David Crockett 4-6, 13-13 Tennessee High 2-9, 6-22 Cherokee 0-10, 7-20 Well, after last night's games, Science Hill is on the verge of clinching the regular season title and the Region 1-AAA bid that goes with it. Even if D-B can beat Science Hill in the Dome Friday night, it would take a catastrophic loss to Volunteer next Tuesday in order for the Lady Hilltoppers to fall into a tie. Boone and D-B could be tied for second after Friday if the likely outcome of Friday's games happen. And also, Volunteer could be all alone in fourth after Friday. Schedule for rivalry Friday: Volunteer at Cherokee David Crockett at Daniel Boone Science Hill at Dobyns-Bennett (non district) Sullivan Central at Tennessee High
  10. As always on the boys side of things, every district night is big... but this one is huge. We could have no less than a four way tie for second by the end of the night if certain scenarios unfold. Dobyns-Bennett at Daniel Boone David Crockett at Science Hill Tennessee Hugh at Volunteer (non district) Happy Valley at Cherokee If the likely result of Science Hill beating Crockett and Boone can knock off D-B at home, then we will have a cluster for second in the district with a four way tie, since there's no way Volunteer beats Tennessee High.
  11. Standings as of 2-3-20: Science Hill 8-1, 25-2 David Crockett 6-3, 16-7 Dobyns-Bennett 6-3, 12-11 Tennessee High 6-4, 19-8 Daniel Boone 6-4, 13-9 Cherokee 1-9, 9-16 Volunteer 0-9, 4-17 Figured I would post a cumulative thread moving forward instead of the weekly threads that I had been posting...
  12. A couple of big games on the docket tonight: David Crockett at Science Hill -- Crockett took the Lady Hilltoppers to double OT down in the 'Boro earlier in the season. Can the Lady Pioneers go into the New Gym and pull the shocker? Dobyns-Bennett at Daniel Boone -- D-B whipped Boone soundly at the Dome earlier in the season. A win in the friendly confines of Bobby Snyder Gymnasium tonight for Boone could set up the potential for a tie for second in the conference with D-B set to host Science Hill on Friday. Tennessee High at Volunteer -- Volunteer is a scrappy team and should have no problem with the Vi-queens. (non district) Happy Valley at Cherokee
  13. Standings as of 2-3-20 Science Hill 9-0, 18-7 Dobyns-Bennett 8-1, 20-7 Daniel Boone 7-3, 14-9 David Crockett 4-5, 13-12 Volunteer 3-6, 12-13 Tennessee High 2-8, 6-21 Cherokee 0-10, 7-19 Figured I would just post a cumulative thread moving forward instead of the weekly threads I have been posting...
  14. Cloudland will beat UH by as much as they want.
  15. From last night: Morristown East 64, Volunteer 44
  16. District Standings: Science Hill 7-1, 23-2 Dobyns-Bennett 6-2, 11-10 Daniel Boone 6-3, 13-7 David Crockett 5-3, 15-8 Tennessee High 5-4, 17-8 Cherokee 1-8, 9-15 Volunteer 0-9, 7-17 District Teams Schedule: Monday, January 27 Cherokee 51, West Greene 37 David Crockett 65, Elizabethton 44 Tuesday, January 28 Science Hill 71, Cherokee 51 Dobyns-Bennett 81, Volunteer 60 Daniel Boone 91, Tennessee High 70 Thursday, January 30 Morristown East at Volunteer Friday, January 31 Cherokee at Tennessee High Daniel Boone at Science Hill Dobyns-Bennett at David Crockett Volunteer at Sullivan South Saturday, February 1 Gate City (VA) at Science Hill Jefferson County at Dobyns-Bennett Virginia High (VA) at Tennessee High Well Tennessee High, according to Science Hill coach Ken Cutlip, was deemed the "best team in the conference" after the Vikings shocked the Hilltoppers in Bristol Friday night and D-B last Tuesday. So, what happened to this "best team in the conference" last night in Gray? Daniel Boone annihilated Tennessee High in the fourth quarter last night to win going away. This just proves the inconsistency of Tennessee High. They always find a way to beat the conference heavyweights (SH and D-B) but inexplicably lose to those mid to bottom tier teams (Cherokee last year and Crockett and Boone this year). That was the only notable result from last night. Friday's slate will be fun. Can Cherokee go into Viking Hall and beat Tennessee High for the second straight year? Can Boone ride the momentum of last night's huge win and go into the New Gym and pull another shocker? Can D-B go into the 'Boro, always a tough place to play, and come out with a victory? Come back Friday night to find out. Also on Saturday are two very interesting non district games, Gate City, one of the top 2A programs in Virginia goes into Science Hill for a rematch of a game earlier in the season in southwest Virginia that the Hilltoppers squeaked out by 4. And a potential future Region matchup takes place in Kingsport with Jeff County coming to town. D-B rolled Jeff County by 35 in Dandridge as Abiah Releford couldn't miss, draining 11 3's in that contest, but the sharpshooting senior hasn't been that hot since (except against Science Hill). Can he find his shot again this Saturday?
  17. District Standings: Science Hill 8-0, 16-7 Dobyns-Bennett 7-1, 18-7 Daniel Boone 7-2, 13-8 David Crockett 4-4, 14-11 Volunteer 3-5, 12-11 Tennessee High 1-8, 5-20 Cherokee 0-9, 7-18 District Teams Schedule: Monday, January 27 Cherokee 48, West Greene 35 Tuesday, January 28 Science Hill 57, Cherokee 22 Dobyns-Bennett 64, Volunteer 24 Daniel Boone 48, Tennessee High 39 Thursday, January 30 Morristown East at Volunteer Friday, January 31 Cherokee at Tennessee High Daniel Boone at Science Hill Dobyns-Bennett at David Crockett Volunteer at Sullivan South Saturday, February 1 Campbell County at Science Hill Jefferson County at Dobyns-Bennett Virginia High at Tennessee High So, last week I said the top 4 in the district were clearly a notch above the other 3. Then Volunteer inexplicably beat Crockett on Friday night which could make that 4/5 matchup in the tournament interesting if it comes to fruition. Crockett is hard to figure out. Took Science Hill to double OT, but lose to Volunteer. Last night's games were chalk as the favorites all won. All three district contests on Friday should be entertaining with the cellar dwellers Cherokee and Tennessee High matching up. Science Hill beat Boone pretty handily the first time around, can they do it again? Crockett took the lead to the fourth quarter against D-B the first meeting in Kingsport, but then were held to a goose egg and shutout in the fourth to lose by double digits. Can Crockett get revenge in the 'Boro?
  18. I wouldn't say complicated... Science Hill has the district in the bag now because they aren't going to lose twice in their final six.
  19. Alasia Smith was injured in that game, she was out that game and the following game against Volunteer. Volunteer actually led Science Hill at the half, until Science Hill waxed them the second.
  20. Region 1, in my opinion, Science Hill will probably take it. The other finalist will be between Jefferson County and Dobyns-Bennett. Jeff County and D-B have already played once at Jeff County with Jeff County winning by 15 or so. They play again in Kingsport a week from Saturday. With the region being played in Morristown, I give Jeff County the edge to be runner up. Science Hill is the best team I have seen personally so far though and should win the region. Sleepers could be Daniel Boone and David Crockett. Crockett took Science Hill to double OT at their place before losing.
  21. Well we are through the first go round of conference play in most, if not every district in the Volunteer state. Tomorrow will start the second round for most everyone. I will focus on District 1 schools as far as giving outlooks and reviews as we head rapidly toward the postseason. After Friday's district contests in District 1-AAA: Science Hill 13-7, 6-0 Dobyns-Bennett 16-6, 5-1 Daniel Boone 9-8, 4-2 David Crockett 12-10, 3-3 Volunteer 11-10, 2-4 Tennessee High 5-17, 1-5 Cherokee 6-14, 0-6 Games involving district teams this week: Monday, January 20: Daniel Boone at Greeneville Morristown East at Cherokee Tuesday, January 21: Dobyns-Bennett at Tennessee High Daniel Boone at Volunteer Cherokee at David Crockett Friday January 24: Science Hill at Tennessee High Cherokee at Daniel Boone David Crockett at Volunteer Saturday, January 25: Dobyns-Bennett at Greeneville After the first go round of district play, it is clear that Science Hill is unquestionably the top team in the conference. The Hilltoppers thrashed D-B on Friday night in a battle of conference undefeated foes. Also on Friday, Boone demolished Crockett and Volunteer hit a shot at the buzzer to defeat county rival Cherokee to keep them winless in the district. None of the district contests should be competitive this week. The top four are pretty much set as the bottom three are clearly a step below them, even though Volunteer is above .500.
  22. Well we are through the first go round of conference play in most, if not every district in the Volunteer state. Tomorrow will start the second round for most everyone. I will focus on District 1 schools as far as giving outlooks and reviews as we head rapidly toward the postseason. After Friday's district contests in District 1-AAA Standings: Science Hill 21-1, 6-0 Dobyns-Bennett 10-8, 5-1 Tennessee High 15-7, 3-3 David Crockett 12-7, 3-3 Daniel Boone 9-6, 3-3 Cherokee 8-11, 1-5 Volunteer 4-12, 0-6 Games involving district teams this week: Monday, January 20: Daniel Boone at Greeneville Morristown East at Cherokee Tuesday, January 21: Dobyns-Bennett at Tennessee High Daniel Boone at Volunteer Cherokee at David Crockett Friday January 24: Science Hill at Tennessee High Cherokee at Daniel Boone David Crockett at Volunteer Saturday, January 25: Dobyns-Bennett at Greeneville Friday saw D-B go into Johnson City and nearly pull off the major upset, taking the Hilltoppers to Overtime before falling by three. Also, Boone and Crockett played a thriller as well with Boone prevailing in double OT. Cherokee has been much improved of late, playing even with D-B in the first half before falling and defeating rival Volunteer for their first district win Friday night. The two big games this week will be played at Viking Hall. Tennessee High was predicted to finish at the top of the district by some folks in the preseason but have disappointed so far with three losses through the first go round. The Vikings will have chances to redeem two of those losses this week against D-B and Science Hill. Both should be good contests.
  23. Two of the KTN writers actually picked D-B to win. Tanner Cook who may just be trying to make up ground in their pick em standings and felt that may be the only shot at a swing game and Kevin Mays who is their southwest Virginia guy and knows absolutely jack about the Tennessee side.
  24. My ex-girlfriend works at the BB&T bank down the street. It's on the same side of the road as the stadium and not that far a walk. I would park there.
