I was under the impression that some of the players came from Cumberland County High school. This was taken from a players bio on the web. Named starting pitcher for 2000+ student, Cumberland Co High in spring 2005. . Pitched HS team to District 5AAA championship, spring 2005. ----Named to all tournament team for 5AAA. ----Named District 5AAA MVP for 2005. If this is not true. I apologize. Also, I thought this was Stones first year. You mentioned "for years they played against 3A." I am not trying to bash Stone. They are a good team with quality players. I was just expressing my opinion and what I have heard.

It bothers me when someone singles out a player on these message boards. Stones pitcher is decent and can compete, and has shown she can. She's had a good season thus far. I think the All-State awards will list her this year, due to the success of the team, especilaly if they win it all. My only problem with Stone is that they are basically a 3-A school completing at a 2-A level.

I congratulate Stone's pitcher on her achievements, however, softball is a "team" sport and any "team" can be beaten on any given day.

I think it is way too early to predict. The district tournament should be very interesting this year. Alot will depend on how hard the teams schedules are between now and then, and who wants it bad enough.

Does anyone have any scores from the scrimmages at Powell this weekend?

My daughter is a friend of Ryann Musick's and we have followed Unaka all the way to state this year and are so proud of her accomplishments, but I feel some of the things you state are not true about private schools. My daughter has attended private school since Kindergarten. We didn't choose it for the softball program, because there wasn't one. The school didn't even get a field until she was in the seventh grade. Anything the girls have achieved facility wise is due to hard working parents who have provided it for it. There are no state funds to pay for facilities. Only two of our girls play summer ball. We don't recruit or give scholarships, in fact if a student receives any sort of financial aid they cannot participate in athletics. We have had students transfer in and out and they have had to sit out a year. Many haven't even played softball before when they join the team. When the multiplier was applied this year 1.8 X enrollment we had to face much stronger competition, but didn't complain. We too, adhere to all the TSSAA rules.

Columbia Academy is very strong. They have very strong pitching for single A.

I thought all games counted toward stats. I knew there was a rule that tournaments only counted as 4 games but I wasn't aware that pool games weren't considered official games.

I agree with this rule as well. I've seen several girls get hit in the face at high school and college level. One was this past weekend. I guarantee you if you asked them they would all vote for a face mask.

I'm sure it varies per pitcher but how much pitching practice do you estimate high school starting pitchers put in each week? Is time allowed during practice or do most pitchers have to practice soley on their own?
