  1. If they stack the box and go man on the outside, I fully expect the young QB to have a huge night. He’ll probably make a few mistakes, but I think he’ll be able to complete enough to make them back off which will open up the run game. I worry about their athletes running free in our secondary. I think we will handle the run pretty well, but their receivers scare me a little. Especially the kid that’s committed to UT. I see a high scoring affair. One man’s bold prediction: Henry County 31 Haywood 27.
  2. I would imagine that they will stack the box and dare him to throw. That’s what I would do anyway. Hopefully he can make enough connections to keep them honest, and we can pound on them with our 4 backs and shorten the game.
  3. I did. The field looks pretty bad. We need that turf for next season.
  4. You’re exactly right. In my opinion, Haywood may be the most important of the four games. Maybe even the most important of the first half of the season. If we come out and play well against them and get the win, it could set the tone for the entire season. If we lay an egg, we could very well go 1-3 in that stretch. Either way, I still say this team will look completely different by week 7-8. Experience will go a long way, especially for the young QB and new starters up front.
  5. Really thinking something happened on the INT. You don’t throw a pass like that and then throw a beautiful touchdown like he did in the 2nd quarter, and it not have slipped or something. Jr QB had a really good night running the ball, his throws were a bit off though. Was surprised to see Travis put the ball on the turf. That’s not like him at all. Odoms is such a big play threat. We have to get him the ball more. Also need Foster back ASAP, even though the other RB’s have looked really good. I thought the defense played lights out, and the OL was much improved last night. I believe we’re being very vanilla on both sides of the ball right now, and it will look completely different (better) next Friday night.
  6. Whatever you posted must’ve been taken down?
  7. Surely they wouldn’t be that worried about a lowly old freshman who wouldn’t have been playing QB for them for years anyway. Regardless, we’re glad to have him.
  8. McKenzie and Westview are playing each other in a scrimmage on the same night.
  9. Tilghman is playing the last two quarters vs Northside and us.
  10. Hoping it’s just precautionary. We need him at full speed come week one
  11. Which also means 8 and 27 are having to play both ways a ton. Once 5 and 48 get back to carry some of the rushing load, we’ll be much better off.
  12. Also per my buddy: “The offense is just better when 12 is in the game. Everything rolls better and smoother. This guy will be unreal by the time he’s a senior. The hype is real.” That’s basically what I saw against Milan last Friday also. I will say, 16 didn’t get many chances against Milan though. I think he only played a couple of series. Sounds like he played more tonight. Regardless, it sounds like 12 will be the guy.
  13. Apparently the 1’s didn’t play after halftime. So 1’s vs 1’s it was 15-7. That’s not terrible, all things considered.
  14. From my buddy: Tough going for the Patriots to start the game. MBA is a very good team. We’ve run the ball well. Still false starting a bunch. Both 12 and 16 threw an interception in the first half. 12 with a fantastic back shoulder TD throw to #1 right before the half. MBA leads 15-7 at the half
  15. I have a buddy that’s going and is going to text me updates. I’ll try to pass them on when I get them. GBR
  16. Exactly right. We honestly shouldn’t beat them. If we do, we’re extra special or they’re down. It’s a great scrimmage to see where we are though and to get us ready for that juggernaut of a schedule we have, especially the non-region portion of it. Just need to learn and come out of it healthy.
  17. Not sure. Maybe they think they get more work that way, especially if they have a young team. To me, there’s nothing like a jamboree to kickoff football season. I guess that’s why I’m just a fan.
  18. Yeah I think we will be fine, I’ve just heard several teams that aren’t going to jamborees and having scrimmages instead.
  19. Several teams are backing out of jamborees and having scrimmages instead.
  20. With all these talented runners, we need someone to emerge as a solid option at WR/slot beside Odoms. There’s no replacing Ethan Thompson, but if we can find a couple of guys to compliment Odoms, this offense could be really really good. Damron seems to have quite the command of the O, and the more receivers we can bring along, the better for both him and the run game. I thought the TE played pretty well against Milan. #87 I think was his number.
  21. I think Travis is probably our best all around RB, but the other three bring a lot to the table as well. It’s a good problem to have. I also like Travis in the wildcat as a change of pace. Gives opposing defenses one more thing to prepare for.
  22. I agree, they did pretty well opening up holes for the runners. Just need to clean up the pass protection and penalties some. It’s early, I’m sure they’ll get it going.
  23. Once Foster and Johnson get back healthy, with Travis and Davis, this running game will be unreal. It’ll definitely be a young QB’s best friend. And after last night, there’s zero doubt as to who the QB will be this season. That young man can play. I don’t know if we have enough footballs to keep all the RBs satisfied. I know a couple of them will play defense as well, but with all 4 bringing a little different skill set to the table, our running game should be off the charts. Assuming the OL comes together.
  24. I was most impressed with how the young QB commanded the huddle and managed the game. He must be wise beyond his years, because he almost always put us in the right positions to succeed. His arm is good and he’s more athletic than I thought he was. Can you imagine what this kid will be 2-3 years from now? Dante Davis looked like a man out there. Defensively we played well if you back out those 3 big plays. OL has a ways to go, especially with the mental mistakes, but they’ll get there. I’ve said this before, but by mid season we’re going to be a pretty good football team if everyone stays healthy. GBR
  25. He’s bigger than that now. I saw him at the tailgate, I’m 6’ on the nose and he was taller than me by an inch anyway. And he looks thicker than 160. I think that weight was measured before he got on Junior’s workout regimen! Haha
