I have heard a few around West Tennessee that could potentially open up. One of the rumors I have heard is pending on a game tomorrow night..

IMO they are very predictable on offense. They run a lot of screens to the boundary, they have good size and good athletes, but they struggle to truly use them all the time. It's Coach Lowes first year at North Side, before that at Fayette Ware and Bolivar I do not believe that he has ever won a playoff game at any stop as HC. I do not know much about Marshall County but I think they will be alright. Chester County played very basic and sound defense and held NS to 7 points Friday night.

With a large chunk of the state finishing their season, what are some openings you think will happen? I could see quite a few around West Tennessee with some down years, and recent hires not seeming to have pan out.

You can, both coaches have to agree to it though and most of the time the coach who is up big doesn't want it to run till after halftime. It's after halftime regardless up by 30.

I do not think Ripley can score enough to keep up with Covington honestly. Ripley's defense is good, bordering great even, but their offense is not the best. They spread the field and do not throw the ball very well at all which plays into Covington. Ill go Covington 28 - 13 over Ripley.

Again I do not know Wes and he might be a great coach in a bad situation. Coaches are not ALWAYS to blame, but I understand as do these coaches that if teams are not winning it goes back on them. Maybe someone with more ties to McNairy has more incite, but that's just what I have heard from Jackson.

Westview wins this one 48-6 running clock midway through the second Q. IMO Its about time, I do not know Wes Johnson but they are not winning, they look awful in their games, from what I have heard the kids have all but given up on him. They beat two teams who combined have an 0-16 record and I don't see either winning a game this year. McNairy MIGHT beat Scotts Hill, but even that is a stretch.

Covington by 40+ Liberty has talent, they have size, they have everything you need outside of Coaching and scheme. Being a South Side fan I watched our game with them and it was evident that they just did not have any will to win, and the coaching all around is awful. Liberty from 2008-2016 was one of the top schools in the area, but god that feels like forever ago at this point. I graduated from South Side in 2007 and we beat Liberty, then I remember seeing the next few years they started to turn it on.

I think this one will be a good tough matchup, Haywood is getting better every week, Hardin Co is a very good team. Give me Hardin Co in a close game 28 - 24

I agree, I do not think the defense can stop Westview. I do think that the offense will put up more then 14 though. That QB is a heck of a ball player and they utilize that well, and they looked to have some athletes too, but those athletes did not play very well when I watched outside of the QB and the RB really.

I like Bolivar, I think their staff has done a good job this year, I watched them vs South Side and while they were smaller (very small in most spots) they fought hard, had good schemes, and they finished the game (something a Bolivar team hasn't done in a while). But Westview is a different animal, much like the Covington, Dyersburg, and Ripley games for them I think they will struggle to get off their field. They scored (22, 24, and 38) against those guys but allowed (62, 56, and 45) so I expect more of the same here. Give me Westview over Bolivar 49 - 28 in a must win for both teams.

Yeah I saw his stats on the West Tennessee High School Athletics. Dude has been lighting it up!! The Howell kid from Bolivar has had a great season according to the post on there as well, and the Mosley kid from JCS. Its always great to see West Tennessee talent!

Who should be up for Mr. Football this season?

I will take Covington over Bolivar 35 - 24

I have been impressed by Bolivar's offense this season. I want to say they were leading 3A in points scored till this week, still top 10. The QB is a tough football player. I remember a few years ago they were not putting up 100 points for the entire year. I am glad to see they are starting to put it together and compete a little bit. Do they still have a really small staff? last I heard they had 3 or 4 coaches, and really young coaches at that.

Any teams jumping out and surprising you after two weeks or is everything going as expected? I will say I was shocked to see Obion County win big over Lake County and then win over Westview to send Westview to an 0-2 start. For me they are my biggest surprise team through two weeks.

What are some of the best scrimmages to watch in the next few weeks in West TN? I have seen Covington going against Union City Aug 11th Dyersburg vs Crockett Aug 11th McNairy against Hardin Co. Aug 11th Westview vs Huntington July 28 Covington vs South Side July 28th

There are still SIXTEEN schools looking for head coaches for next season. CAK, Centennial, Eagleton College and Career Academy, East Hamilton, Fayette-Ware, Freedom Prep, Greenback, Jo Byrns, MLK Prep, Maplewood, Memphis Business Academy, Morristown East, Northeast, Sunbright, Trinity Christian, and White House Heritage are all still looking. Some have been open much longer then others, any word on who might fill any of these jobs? Some of these are attractive jobs and should be filled up quickly, some might be waiting even longer.

Fayette Ware is approaching 3 months without a coach, I have heard most of their staff have moved on as well. Any clue who is going to get this job?
