2-5A will be West and everybody else.  Central might take a step backwards, and Halls and Sevier County will challenge them for the #2 spot.

In 2-5A, it's Maryville clearly still atop.  Bradley Central, Farragut, and Cleveland will be the next three, and could be in any order 2-4, IMO.

Halls and SC were formidable opponents for West this year. I hope they graduated a lot of those fellas. I agree that those three teams will battle it out for that 2 spot but I give the edge to Halls.

Hearing that Coach Jones has brought in Coach Potter from HVA to be the DC. Just what l heard. Don't know for sure.

This is great news to me. :P
Defense was Bearden’s strong suit last year. Really stopped us (West) up in our run game.
I didn’t watch HVA play last year, the scores of their games must have been misleading. I didn’t know they had a defensive mastermind on staff.

All in good fun. I wish Mr. Jones and his staff the best and hope for a good matchup in the fall. I know our game doesn’t matter in the long run since they’re 6A, but I sure do love watching the rebels beat the bulldogs.

You are such a loser, really shows your ignorance to spewing such garbage on here. Unfortunately some people will take what you’re saying and run with it because it fits their agenda. Josh is no bookie, but what do you care. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Man, some people are just passionate about football. That’s why we’re all on here, right? It hits close to home when it’s a guy that will be the mentor your kids/grandkids or your friends kids. I know I was lucky that my kids had tremendous coaches. A head coach can greatly positively or negatively impact a kid’s life.
I’ve actually heard these rumors too. What’s the story? Why do people think he is a bookie?

Did I miss the announcement? I’ve not seen anything official yet. Just curious because the person I was talking too has kinda went radio silent. Guessing maybe an announcement today? Since that was their original timeline.

No announcement yet. He has let a lot of folks know though. How will the Powell players take this news? Was he well liked by the players?

As I have said, I am a Bearden alum, and although I graduated back in the stone age, I still want to see my alma mater do well in sports.

But that said, seeing the reaction of some of the people "affiliated" with Bearden during this search I have come to the conclusion that some people are just plain nuts and wouldn't be happy if Stever Spurrier or Nick Saban were hired.

Get a frickin' grip.  If you don't like whoever is announced as the new coach then either move your son to wherever you want him to be, or better yet stay away and let your son play football without having to listen to your crap.  It's about the kids, not about you.

From my perch at West High it sounds like JJ is the new king in town.

From what I hear, Jones confirmed to several folks that he got the job. If what I am hearing is correct, it sounds messy. As a long time West fan, pardon if I chuckle a bit.

  7. Are any current HC’s in Knox county staff but non-faculty? (No teaching license) Posters here make it sound like Josh Jones and Rusty Bradley are front runners but I learned today that neither of those fellas are teachers.

I’m sure they’re good candidates, Just curious. I’m shocked this job hasn’t been filled yet.

As a member of the interview committee for the Bearden Head Coach, I can verify that the AD is not interested in this position.

 If this is true, and you are on here talking about it, this is an all-time low for BHS.

Something tells me this is already a done deal but we don't know who. But I'll speculate anyways. :roflol:

Scott Cummings - homerun hire imo

Geoff Courtney - homerun hire (unlikely though)

Dustin Lyles - has hc experience

Tracy Malone - has a lot of HC experience :roflol:

    Agree on Cummings 100% @thefox

    Its Derek Rang SZN!

Rang would be a good get if he'd come back to East TN! @WingT08

Reading all of the comments about how the administration doesn't care about football, why did the old HC resign? Isn't Bearden always right around .500 and in playoff contention? Was the community getting restless? Was the HC just over it? Anyways, wouldn't the DC be a prime option as a replacement? Don't know him or anything about him, but just looking at the performance of the defense, seems like he probably knows what he's doing. And if the school has no positions to offer external hires, wouldn't this make sense? First order of business would be fixing that god awful offense.

Interesting. The current DC would be a great choice. He's young, but his defense did a great job. He's also a fine young man. My son played with Mickey at West many years ago and we thought highly of him.

Speaking of West, Scott Cummings should also be a top prospect. He knows how to build up a program and has tremendous success in multiple schools.

The two of them on the same staff would be dynamite!

No, that is no longer the policy. Which makes me wonder why no one has yet scooped up Kevin Lane. He is the currently an assistant at West. He spent time as DC at West during their glory years before heading to Catholic. Excellent football coach.

I don’t know much about Lane, but West’s defensive coordinator sure does a good job. I’d hate to see him leave West, but you can’t deny the defense has been better since Chandler took it on.

Scotty Dykes who’s currently at Cocke County would be an absolute steal! He was the OC at HVA with the Jones guy when they were building that program up. He’s had a couple of stints at other places but he knows how to win and has the college background as well. It’s a longshot but seeing him somewhere like Bearden would be ideal! They would not be a team to sleep on.

Does he have a teaching license? I thought you needed one to be an HC in Knox?

You are 100% on everything.  These people that continue to make excuses while having a losing program over the past 25+ years would be immediately terminated if they were in private business.  Only in government and education do people tolerate and reward losing results.

I was with you until “only in government and education do people tolerate and reward losing results.”

Have you ever been a teacher? Specifically, have you ever taught in a low performing school? My guess is absolutely not.

As I said in the HVA thread, I don't do names in respect for the applicants and their potential futures with their current schools if they don't get a job they have applied for.  No winners in that situation.

If it were college football, it would be different.  But these guys are high school teacher first, high school coaches secondly.

    And an edit:

The coach you mentioned isn't the only coach known for offense in this area.  There are several guys who fit that bill.

Farragut OC? Great coach, but that doesn’t seem likely.
