Which one?  The new RB from Hoover, AL?  We have so many it's hard to keep up with.

Just kidding.  The kid from Huntland is the only transfer I can think of during this season.  He seems to be fitting in with the team and making some plays.

"big plays" is an understatement. that kid tackles harder than some guys twice his size.

You mentioned the Huntingdon game, and Red Bank doesn't fall into the headscratcher category.

For Fayetteville, the Cornersville game is a big time head scratcher for me. Clay beat Cornersville soundly while City struggled. I know a team can have an off game, but I feel that Mckenzie has been more consistently dominant.

@Tide21 touched on the Huntingdon game, so I will not.

Cornersville has always been a thorn in Fayetteville's side, particularly playing at Cornersville. However, the game wasn't as close as the score would indicate. Cornersville was in the redzone at least 5 times and never scored a single point - their one TD came from the defense. Fayetteville had 3 or 4 TDs called back due to penalties - part of the game, but still, there were Cornersville fans and faculty at the game that commented on the one-sidedness of the penalties being called. Fayetteville's defense held them to 137 total yards (19 rushing, 118 passing), 2-9 3rd down conversions, and again, in the redzone 5 times without a single point. so the score is a "head scratcher," but the game was not.

I think Mckenzie has shown they're the team to beat in the West. No disrespect to Peabody or Fayetteville, and all have been good, but Mckenzie seems to have been more consistent this year. They don't have the headscratching scores like the other two. No one else in the West will come close to these 3.

In the East, of course I'm going to say Gordonsville. But, I think realistically, there's only 3 teams in the East with a chance; Gville, SP, and Clay.

    Final Answer: Mckenzie vs. Gordonsville

I'm just curious; other than the Red Bank game or the Huntingdon game, respectively, what "head scratchers" do Fayetteville and Peabody have?

This is no knock on jackson or the Johnson kid but #7 is the best back on that team that kid is a stud he should get the ball 20 plus times a game.

I've known the Pace family for a long time. Those boys were some of the toughest kids I've known - like steel ball bearings wrapped in rubber. That kid takes hits and keeps running like it's no one's business. He is an amazing back and I'd love for him to have more carries, but I think they try to balance that with his defensive responsibilities. He's a really good linebacker, too.

LOL! You know that a team like Fayetteville gets little respect on the boards! Want a 15 page thread Mention South Pittsburgh and the posters will flock to it!

To the post at hand, though, Eagleville has a pretty good team, but from all indications Fayetteville is more athletic. The Tigers need to keep focused, though. If they stumble Friday night it creates a 1st place tie in the region, and that will screw up Fayetteville's seeding for the playoffs. Tigers need to win it outright, so most playoff games will be played in the Den!

    Oh...Roll Tide

Fayetteville is locked in at 1st seed. *IF* they lose to Eagleville, they're tied with Cornersville and have the tie-breaking win.

However, I agree wholeheartedly. Win this week and go into the playoffs strong.

Cornersville only score came from a bad thrown ball that they picked for a house call. Fayetteville did have some bone head flags they took upon themselves but the majority of the penalties called vs Fayetteville that night were egregious it had gotten way to obvious what was taken place during that last drive that Fayetteville scored. I dont think there was a ton of dirty play though those were just two hard nose physical teams battling it out.

as a fan, i'd agree, but that wasn't the point of the post. i was trying to use the unbiased information about City's defense to address the "has city regressed" comment.

as far as the penalties...if you want my opinion, playing with crappy refs sucks, but you should expect it to be part of the game. what you shouldn't have to expect is that the refs are only crappy towards you. however, i'm biased towards my nephew and his team and try to acknowledge that :D

If you're comparing scores, look how Clay beat Scott Co compared to how Coalfield beat Scott and how Gordonsville beat Coalfield.

You know as well as I do, you can't solely go off of comparing scores, but it can give you an idea. As far as Cornersville, the game with City was a head scratcher. It makes me wonder if City has regressed.

regressed? did you watch the game?

18 to 8, with City's defense holding Cornersville's offense to 137 total yards, 0 points, 2-9 3rd down conversion, and at least 4 or 5 trips into the red zone without a single score. as far as City's offense is concerned...i won't get into the talk about penalties that were called and shouldn't have been or were missed. both sides were playing dirty at any point during the game

Fayetteville shouldn’t even have a close game all year. Y’all are basically Lincoln County high school playing 1A ball. But here we are barley escaping beating 1A Cornersville. Kuddos to the Cornersville kids they fought all night long making Fayetteville earn everything they got. They haven’t been hit like that all year long.

Haven't been hit like that all year long? What happened in the Upperman game then?

Not at all lol. Fayetteville is undisciplined when they actually start to get hit. Everyone knows that

CV did have a player ejected for throwing punches, Varo.  Maybe they were going more for MMA this year!

    But Fayetteville is undisciplined

Cornersville should have won this game. Fayetteville is not well coached at all, they look like a 6A team and play like a a good 1A team and wouldn’t say a great one. Fayetteville also deserved every penalty they got and I still don’t believe they got as many as they should have gotten.

And yet, they didn't. The offense didn't score at all. At least 5 trips to the red zone and they were shut out by Fayetteville's defense.

Offsetting penalties resulting in a touchdown being called back? Roughing the passer on 4th and 17 resulting in a first down? Those are the two biggest. Yeah, Fayetteville gets hot headed and might be one of the more penalized teams in 1A, but sometimes it's ridiculous.

Well there’s gonna be a shakeup in middle of the pack.. the AP’s #4 & #6 teams are playing each other (they’re 1 & 2 in Reg.6), & AP’s #5 & #7 going at it too (1 & 2 in Reg.5). All 4 of these teams may see each other again in playoffs. Time will tell. Most of us in Reg.6 are new here & were moved over in new classification, & will face new teams in playoffs, which is good imho. To be great you have to play great teams. The switch increases travel time but I think it will make for better football in long run. Gonna be interesting to see if this weeks games are close & competitive, or blowouts. Everyone is hungry to prove their mettle I know, and eager to “make a statement” to the rest of 1A this week. Yeppers, a good week of football this Friday.

first time poster but i've followed coachT for a couple years now. just wanted to point out the region 5 matchup you're talking about is Fayetteville and Conersville, which is AP #2 and #7
