  1. Every teacher in that department coaches at the school.
  2. Teaching and coaching responsibilities are not connected in KCS. If they choose to coach, then great. If not, that's fine too. Honestly, I don't think that is a bad model to follow when they compensate coaches so poorly in KCS. Admin will have to be creative when they hire to either hire someone in a TA type role or hire someone who does not need a position at the school. This could be done because they have assistant coaches in the building that could handle the academic side for an HC that was not involved at the school.
  3. He is the picture next to "transfer portal" in the dictionary.
  4. Wow, with Jones and a QB they will be tough to compete against!
  5. I am just taking his body of work from 2019-2021 at Powell as the basis for my claims. If you take away any coach's athletes and they will look mediocre.
  6. I am basing this off of what he has been able to do at Powell in 2019, 2020, 2021. If you are active on Twitter, he has a ton of respect from high school and high level college coaches and is always connecting with them. It may not hurt a school to scoop him up because with his connections, he may help their kids get recruited.
  7. When he was at Cleveland, he was competing in 6A region with Maryville. Not that 5A isn't tough in East TN, but Oak Ridge is a more realistic place to run the table than Cleveland having to play Maryville every year in Region and again in 2nd/3rd Round. I think he could be a great fit.
  8. I think the PE situation you are referring to would be a non-factor if they choose to go with a Jones type hire. He wouldn't need a position in the building. He could have an assistant in the building handle things on the academic end.
  9. Defense is irrelevant when you have a strong enough offense that can go the distance and score for score with another team. I have said since the beginning on this thread. I see this being the best coach available... that is known for coaching offense. Also, I do not see a promotion from within with it taking this long to make an announcement.
  10. My apologies, I was referring to Bearden in that comment. It seems like a great fit for Josh and for Bearden. Good natural area for recruiting right in the middle of Knoxville. Good diversity in the school building. They need offense and he always delivers offense.
  11. Josh is more likely to land at Lenoir City or Bearden, IMO. I don't see OR hiring a coach without HC experience. Successful HC experience.
  12. Did not even realize that. I think he would be a great fit there because he would get a lot of talent in the building. But, still so much left on the table to accomplish at Powell this season before making the jump.
  13. Josh Jones is one of the best offensive minds in East TN. Look at what he has done at Powell in his short time there. He would not require a teaching position because he has never worked in public education outside of coaching. He may be exactly what Bearden needs.
  14. All the respect in the world for public educators. Just calling an AP what it is in the Knox County Schools. Usually has a lot more to do with who you know rather than merit. I know a lot of good qualified people that have been passed over for administrative openings. I understand this is the case in many fields but not as rampant as public ed.
  15. Basically, Speas and Miner are buddies. Speas "coached" with him at OR back in the mid 2000's. That is using the term "coach" very, very loosely. Speas knew he wanted Potter out at the end of last year but knew he couldn't during a COVID year. He held on to a position this year to post at the right time (when he forced Potter out) so he could hire his buddy and put him in a PE position immediately. Miner knew Gaddis was hitting the road and was offended that he wasn't the heir apparent.
  16. With the Josh Jones to Bearden rumors swirling, I hope that he can keep his eye on the ball for the remainder of the playoffs.
  17. This is what happens when AD's are not paid positions and the duties are put on an assistant principal (aka a glorified classroom teacher)
  18. The PE position is a "supply" position meaning the full time teacher is taking a leave of absence for a period of time but will be back in that position when they return. AKA temporary and not able to be used for a football coach. I assumed that BHS would choose to go this route and look like they are making an "informed decision." When in reality, they have slow played this because it is not a priority. Now that HVA has done a smooth and effective search, BHS is scrambling to figure out how to hire a coach without a teaching position.
  19. Enlighten me with your infinite wisdom Jerry,
  20. If all they have available is a TA position, the booster club will have to supplement his pay in order to attract an outside candidate (Rusty Bradley). That is how things work in these situations. Unless, they plan to hire someone on the current staff but from what I have read in this thread, Shinlever didn't have much help this year.
  21. Agreed that a lack of faculty openings will make this difficult and probably rules out guys like Partin/Whinery. I imagine that a Bradley/Josh Jones type hire would be more likely if you take that into consideration.
  22. If they were hiring someone on staff, it would've been done by now, IMO. So the teams still playing around East TN (Knoxville) are: 5A West... Barron Chandler? Central... ? Powell.... maybe Josh Jones? 6A Maryville.. (none of them are leaving) Farragut (none of them are going to Bearden) 3A Alcoa (none of them are leaving) Loudon... Harig has already tried the West Knoxville experiment My dark horse is Rusty Bradley.
  23. Booster club will make this hire. At Bearden the booster club runs the show.
  24. I could see Cummings. Courtney has no HC experience so he is out (He will be a great HC when his dad retires). Lyles/Malone are completely laughable.
  25. All of these are great points.
