  1. I am by no means suggesting GR isSuggesting he built that program is a little bit of exaggeration. He didn't come into a program that was in shambles, he took over after they went 35-12 the previous 4 years. But during his 5 years off success, not sure his last year was too good, (which could have been part of his departure, realization of how difficult it can be without superior athletes) he had 3 TN Titan football winners. 2 of his players went on to play at D1 schools. He had the Jimmy's and Joe's. He didn't take a toyota corolla and turn it into this 400 horsepower machine, he took the keys to a 450 horsepower camaro, pressed the gas and steered. I'm not suggesting they shouldn't bring him back either, but some of you act like he is a Guru of a coach, and I disagree with that. I also think if he sees the talent pool start drying up he would be quick to search for a new job and some of you all would justify it for him. Greenback has potential this year and if he came back and they were successful, little credit would be given to the athletes they have and the easier schedule and it would be a bunch of I told you sos. But time will tell, I am curious to see what they decide. The kids needd ti be priority and future of the program needs to be the focus.
  2. Until? You act like it is going to happen. You can't pretend to be supportive and act like that. It seems almost like your mind is made up that everyone besides GR will ruin the program, so walking around with a mask on pretending to support the new coach isn't enough. The players and community can distinguish the difference. If players and staff start believing he is already a bad hire, it will be hard to get them fully bought in and invested in the program. Hopefully you can find a way to listen and learn about the new coach before you start telling everyone how big of a mistake it was and why it was such a bad hire, otherwise you can end up causing just as much of an issue as the coaches you talk about. Everyone has a right to their own opinions, but if you want the program to reach its potential, you are already acting as a road bump for the new coach.
  3. What would you consider miracles? With the amount of returners and the new schedule, GB has the potential to go 7-3 to 9-1. Should challenge Rockwood and Coalfield for region Champs. Watching GB last year and talking to others close to the team, if Coach Rayl can keep the best athletes around and motivated, look for a great turnaround. I know some wanted GR but my personal opinion, Rayl was they beat route to go. But everybody has opinions. I will be interested in seeing Coach Rayls transition from such a large school to a small school and community and how well they stay motivated after a tough week one if they aren't successful. I'll also be curious if Rayls will interest local athletes to transfer to GB as well.
  4. I understand defending Ryan because of his record. But as a relative of a former player, how many times did Ryan win with less talent? In his great run at GB he was loaded with talent. As mentioned before look at the Mr. Football winners. Not many schools can say they have D1 talent, GB had multiple on the same team. Is there a chance he didn't just go to Catholic for the extra money? Could he have foreseen the upcoming struggles and feared it could effect his legacy at GB, as suggested by numerous people in the community? Could there have been internal issues that didn't relate to Ryan's coaching? It just seems as though some are on a witch hunt for anyone that isn't Ryan, and regardless of the potential or how good a new young coach could be, he won't be supported. Question is, what if Ryan got the job and the success wasn't on par with the expectations? Would you all call for his job or make excuses and blame it on the previous coach and admin? But hopefully whoever takes the job realizes he could lose in the state championship and would have to hear about how if Ryan was HC they would have won. Some complain about how this next hire could set GB back even further, but lack of community support could also contribute to that setback. Either way Goodluck on the hire. If Rayl turns it down does the committee stick by their decision not to get Ryan or do they give in and try to meet any request Ryan has?
  5. I know it's dead period, but is there any rumors about DDs plans as far as staff goes or plans going forward? What are the expectations for the season?
  6. He is a good coach, but will he be able to get the athletes in the school to come out and play in that type of offense. Look at the surrounding schools, if a kid isn't a die hard wild cat, would they prefer play for DD and a less than exciting offense (although it can be effective) or go somewhere else and play in a slightly more exciting offense? Plus a better school system? Even the boys in blue down the road have brought some excitement to their offense, which is why their numbers are up and there is talk of them having success.
  7. Possibly and they are waiting until the end of dead period to announce the new coach to the team. Since coaches can't bring the players.into the facilities and meet with them.
  8. That could explain why there hasn't been many applicants. Which would also prevent any discussion of potential qualified candidates. If the school board won't let DD take over, they just wasted an opportunity to get applications in and start the review process, even if their minds were made up. Should have had a plan B if plan DD doesn't work.
  9. I'm not sure many knew of the job being open. How was word spread they were looking for a coach? Was it on the TSSAA website? As blaster posted, DDs brand isn't the style this generation desires. They are exposed to high flying uptempo high scoring offenses on Saturdays and Sundays. To go from that excitement to slow paced wing, is not the best way to recruit the hallways and there are some kids walking that school that could contribute. That being said is there anyone he could bring kn staff to possibly change the offense, and if not DD, is there any incentive for someone to take the Polk job? Admin support, funding, pay, or daily schedule? How do they stack up against other local schools? Would it benefit an assista t at another school to apply and get it or would that possibly ruin a person's coaching career? So many questions, but the big one is, did they even bother putting effort into getting applications or were their minds made up before Brewer stepping down was released to the public?
  10. I believe they are trying to have everything established by Christmas break to get the players familiar with the coach and an off-season set up. They don't want to have a late hire and an off season be wasted as so many other programs do. Could announce as soon as the beginning of December.
  11. I have heard rumor someone on staff is trying to get the job. There are no coaches going to Loudon. There is also another rumor of a Coach/Former Coach from one of the Loudon County schools trying to get the job. But rumors are just that, a rumor.
