  1. Come on- that was your prediction for the Musket Bowl, too. And Boone scored a few more than that...
  2. I think Boone COULD beat Hampton by that much, but won't. As soon as Boone gets a 3 TD lead so far this year the coach has called off the dogs. Even in that crazy Cherokee game starters were out before half and Boone had 3rd stringers still scoring TDs. But the rest of the games once there is a big enough lead he's been keeping it on the ground, avoiding turnovers, eating the clock and trying to keep starters healthy.
  3. Boone comes in 8-0 for the first time ever. Crockett is struggling this season. This is the first time in awhile where this game isn't a deciding factor in the conference championship. No team has won on the opponent's field since maybe 2014 when Boone was dominant for years. Since then whoever is at home seems to pull out the victory no matter who's the "better team on paper."
  4. I've got to assume you're being facetious with your poor grammar on a post about public schools? But if not... Anyway... Of course it's part of the AD's job to look out for the budget for the athletic department- I guess not necessarily to "make money for the school." But ticket sales from football and basketball are a HUGE part of the overall budget for the whole athletic department. Yes, public schools can get by with what's allocated from the school board... but I would assume there's a certain number of ticket sales that are expected as part of the set budget so anything that negatively impacts that number (people staying home to watch a game instead of buying a ticket) would hurt the school.
  5. Right- so Boone's AD looks like the "bad guy" for not streaming, but if his job is to help make money for the school- I'm sure they are making more money by not making it available to watch other than to buy a ticket.
  6. Sometimes cuzin' Johnny can rub two sticks together with some tin foil and we can get that dubba dubba dubba internet thing to work... But - typically no, Boone's AD doesn't like video because it takes away from the gate. He won't allow the local news stations to broadcast the games unless they pay what the news folks said was "an exorbitant amount". I do see his point however, many would choose to stay home and watch from their comfy coach instead of going to the game if that's an option. The last Musket Bowl that was televised was terrible weather and many stayed home to watch on tv instead paying to see it live. I don't think Boone's been on TV at home since then.
  7. It's non-conference so it doesn't matter as far as playoff standings. However, Boone hates losing to a city school so it's a pride thing. Boone should have beat SH last year other than a couple of special teams mistakes would have won. Also, right now Boone is TIED for the best start in school history- a win next week makes them have THE best start in school history. Players all year have said they want to go undefeated so it would deflate them a bit but also fuel a fire for the next two games which are conference games.
  8. Also Science Hill will be without starters Mikah Dukes and Bryce Hill from an ejection during the MO East Game. Not sure how, or if, that will impact anything.
  9. Serious question- how does a 6A team- who assuming has large number of students- not have enough to play and compete? Is it their youth league? A closer school that steals the good athletes? Had no idea how bad they were until they played West Ridge- and they made West Ridge look good.
  10. At Boone- Senior Night. Boone is on its fall break and is coming in 6-0. Common opponents have been West Ridge and Elizabethton. Both were wins for these two teams- but SH had a larger margin of victory but also allowed more points scored. Those games were both shut-outs for Boone. Thoughts?
  11. This is the Blazer's year if O-line does it's job and the QB gets off to a better start than he has the last couple of games. Defense is stout- zone coverage on defense may give up too many short passes that'll add up against a good passing team, but if they make those small corrections and stay healthy this is the year to compete against the Knoxville teams.
  12. Don't know who's the best- but the two that called the DB/Greeneville game weren't great. A good announcer will make you feel like you're watching the game even though you can't see it. I was watching the game with their call and was still confused b/c they often got the player's names incorrect, inserted way too much personal opinion and degraded players on air.
  13. A great 4A school can beat an average 6A school (as they have in the past)... but I think DB is above average 6A school this year and Greeneville is a just a "good" 4A team. Going with DB.
  14. I'm going with Crockett. They have some players that I think could step up. Haven't heard much noise from TN High but they've had a tough schedule.
  15. That was a rough game for both offenses. Cyclones was covering Boone's only pass plays effectively but the fact that Boone's coaches couldn't pull anything else out of the hat other than to run it up the middle is baffling. Cyclones looked much better defensively. Both teams better get back to the drawing board on offense for next week.
  16. I thought this was a Boone vs Elizabethton thread?
  17. Blazerset1 either got some bad intel early on or just doesn't have confidence in his team. Not sure which. Boone has not faced a passing team yet this year, and since Elizabethton had a total of 3 passing yards against Greeneville I'm not sure they'll see it yet. BUT... Eliz. at least did what I thought they should and move #18 to the QB spot. He just didn't get a chance to do much at Greeneville. Boone's secondary is fast, but the team seems much better at stopping the run game than the passing game. There have been a couple of throws that if they were on-the-money they would have been TDs against Boone. So we'll see. As far as the kids on this team... the seniors are the only ones who remember getting "beat" by E-town. Last year Boone was in it the whole game... just couldn't score on that last drive. At that time Jenkins still couldn't make up his mind about who was going to be QB and THAT messed with their heads and their performance more than any other team did. Like they say, if you have two QBs you have none. The year before it was a doomed field goal before it was even kicked because you could clearly see they weren't covering the kid who blocked it. Coach should have called a time out and changed the play. So I don't think this team has any "fears" of Elizabethton nor do they care about past records. They feel cheated that they didn't win the last two times they played and they are ready to win this one. Witten is a very good coach and he's eventually going to figure out how to win without the studs from last year. I think this will be the toughest opponent Boone has faced to date. But if the Blazers can get a handle on those holding penalties (still way too many) and use a more diverse offense than just run up the middle, Boone should win this one easily.
  18. Uh- didn't say it was right or wrong. I just made the observation. Didn't need a lecture.
  19. After Clark when down last week that seemed to give Crockett a spark. Just like when Boone's running back when down against Greeneville a couple of years ago. Greeneville players swear had that play not happened Boone would have never won. Maybe that's what happened here... Crockett just didn't have the spark need to win.
  20. WR is way worse than I thought. Boone didn't even try to score after the running clock but SH never let off the gas... WR play calling was so predictable... they need to make some serious changes.
  21. As WJHL's Kenny Hawkins says, "Someone's O got to go!" Who's going to stay undefeated after this game? I've not seen either play in person yet this year.
  22. Not to get too Socio/political, but with Science Hill... the kids that are still playing sports in HS -many times are the kids who's parents can afford the extra private lessons, the AAU etc. Everyone else kind of drops off. Bart Lyon does a good job with JR Toppers of getting lots of kids involved in the JR Toppers. I know some coaches would go to Keystone area and pick up kids for practice etc. But once they get to school ball, you don't have the other parents willing to invest in that. Science Hill has noticed a big drop-off in fan support as well in the past couple of years. As far as Elizabethton- it's almost a religion. For their middle school team they had 90 kids come out to play 6-8th grade... compare that to Boone who combines 5 middle schools and can only get 30 kids to play middle school ball and they are getting killed every game. So I think Elizabethton just needs to adjust to their new life without those 2-3 star players and they should be fine as the season goes on. They probably have the better coach to make those adjustments.
