  1. People forget that 80mph is a good number; therefore, they don't like to say low 80's. It is because of this that people create the mid and upper 80's myth for most players. A high school pitcher who can consistently throw around 80, hit spots, and use two or three pitches can be successful. It is unlikely, however, that these boys win championships in AAA. People are talking about some phenomenal arms in the state right now. For instance, Sonny Gray at Smyrna supposedly can hit the mid to upper 90's, a velocity well out of range for 99% of all high school kids. These arms are the exceptions, not the rule.
  2. AAA Though Farragut had a rather abrupt end to the 2007 season, I predict that they'll be a powerful foce in Murfreesboro in May. Also, watch out for Oakland to seek revenge for last season's early dismissal. One would be a bit blind to overlook the possibility of Smyrna and the prodigy Sonny Gray making some noise.
  3. new coach at wb was at sevier county a few years back. they return two tough players in garland and burstrom, and the team concept was evidently powerful last season. if this team can play together, they will likely figure into the outcome of 4AAA.
  4. Halls West Karns Oak Ridge Powell Central Clinton Campbell Co. Not enough pitching in this conference to be excellent teams. There are some good bats and decent pitchers, but the lack of superb arms will limit the post-season action of each of these teams. Impossible to name anyone in this league who can bump it up into the mid 80's, let alone dominate a game like players in the past (Lockwood, Larsen)
  5. Point one: South Doyle is much better than DB. Point two: Mike Ritz doesn't do a very good job. Point three: DB's schedule doesn't help to prepare them for the post-season. Though they play in Knoxville and Chattanooga during the season, the conference play and tourney in Kingsport doesn't provide them with the preparations for post-season play. Point four: Farragut can never be called cocky. I've watched Coach Pharr for a few years, and I see how he treats his players. They don't focus on the tournament; instead, they focus on the process of playing baseball. He doesn't allow his players to do anything that might appear unclassy. Ultimately, Db needs to come to terms with the fact that it will take a new coach to change the results. Science Hill made the switch, and now it is time for DB to do the same.
  6. Easy prediction-both teams lose in regional games. How can Cocke Co. match up with a team from DB's district? Easy prediction-both teams lose in regional games. How can Cocke Co. match up with a team from DB's district?
  7. losers on day one play at 12:00 saturday, while the winners at each site play at 2:30 on saturday
  8. Looks as though East has found a way to take good kids and make a horrible team. Heard they won't even go back to Sherwood and play. Money well-spent on that concrete park.
  9. If your scenario plays out, then the coaches will have to pull out the by-laws to crown a regular season champion. O.R. and Halls will have identical records, and they split the series with one another. Karns would finish third. I don't know about powell, but I imagine that they'd be fourth.
  10. Penley is a velocity thrower. He throws tons of first pitch FB's. More than half of the team will swing at the first pitch. Line-up includes 2-5 Strong, Clement, Darras, Bryan, and a decent 9 hole hitter.
  11. Did South Doyle lose to Morristown West last week? The television said that S.D. was perfect in its region, but that wouldn't e possible if they lost to William Blount and Morristown West. How did Maryville come up with six hits against Bell?
  12. What is the punishment for his ejection? Missed game? Fines? What will happen, and why was he tossed?
  13. sorry about that- you're right
  14. For those involved as players in the spring sport of baseball, the tourney at Murfreesboro and the tourney at Ooltewah are quite different. One is a preparation for the other. I am not condoning running from games, if you believe that is what happened. However, I must insist that winning a tourney here and there does not a good team make. Tourneys are experiences that should be used for building and growing as players and teams.
  15. to begin, we must recognize how much money some teams make at tourneys. for example, ooltewah charged 250 per team. that splits the umpires for at least four games, even though most teams only play the three-game minimum. Next, let us notice that the tournament penalty is only three games, not four, and the fourth game is always a bonus. Finally, let us not assume that the DB coach didn't alert the director up front. weekends are long, and db had a four-hour drive. Quit crying about your tournament championships. If you really want one, go to Murfreesboro and come back with the hardware.
  16. LENOIR CITY APPEARS TO BE ON A ROLL THIS SEASON. I HEARD THAT THEY'D ALREADY WON 10 GAMES, AND THEY ALMOST SHOCKED WB ON MONDAY. LOOKS LIKE THE HARD WORK OVER THERE IS PAYING OFF.
  17. What did I hear about a bush league comment coming out of a WB player's mouth? trash talking before the end of the game?
  18. I imagine that coaches and schools will not do many things differently. The TSSAA has had rules in place for years and has failed miserably at enforcing those.
  19. The downfall of Cocke Co. and Cherokee is that neither of them can compete in AA, let alone AAA.
  20. someone needs to call murfreesboro and reserve some rooms for the cherokees; they're on their way to the tourney baby
  21. how bad is lenoir city going to get hammered today.
  22. District 4AAA must be stacked if teams like Farragut and WB can lose on opening day and still come out and kick the crap out of other teams. Who pitched for WB? For Maryville?
  23. Are the 'Canes playing their originally planned schedule, or did Altizer once again drop the games to which he didn't feel like traveling? Did the boys play any fall baseball? Every coach in the IMAC rejoiced when they found out that it'd be Altizer and not Rines this season.
