Just curious. What's the scoop on Columbia's tough record? Early on, someone had told me they were pretty good. Have they had pitching or injury problems?

With all due respect to rollinwave, I believe divingcatch has a bead on this one. Beech surely took the Gallatin game as a big wake-up call. They got a stark picture of what it's like when you come out sluggish against a good team following a big district win.

Gallatin won 8 to 7 over LaVergne Monday night, according to redsman in the Gallatin vs. LaVergne thread.

Sounds like a fantastic game to watch. Any details, such as who pitched, any defensive gems, big hits?

I agree with justafanman that Smyrna has a decent all-around ballclub, and their 3,4, & 5 hitters may have carried them against MJ, but against Beech only the 3 hitter did that (Gray was 1-3 with the homer). 4th hitter was hitless, reaching on a fielder's choice. 5th hitter was hitless, reaching on a walk and an error. That said, I'm not sure that I see Smyrna losing 3-4 games either, but as tough as 9AAA is, lots of stuff can happen between now and the tourney.

Super game between 2 teams who played like they wanted it. By my estimate: MJ had 5 hits against Frey for 3 runs. Beech certainly helped them on the second run. MJ played good defense (one interesting play where their CF dropped a fly, but the RF was there to snag it before it hit the ground. Beech had 8 hits against Hill. In the bottom of the 7th, with one out, the BHS right fielder tripled down the RF line. Their plucky 2B then hit the first pitch for a single down the LF line, with the man on 3rd coming home for the 4-3 win.
