  1. Davidson Academy is moving to Division II.
  2. Thanks for your encouragement. I still may make this summer but definitely next year.
  3. Good luck to Davidson Academy. Great girls, great coaching and good sportsmanship always.
  4. Check the front page of the sports section in The Tennessean (thetennessean.com). Looks like Murfreesboro is in the lead. They already do football, basketball, etc.
  5. Father Ryan & St Benedict to make it to the Thursday night game (game 12) at 7:00 pm. Will hold my cards close to the vest if that happens, as far as the championship.
  6. Don't get your hopes up for good coverage in Memphis (Southaven, MS). I've been there the last 3 years and it's not nearly as good as Chattanooga. All the softball reporting seems slanted to the West TN teams even when they loose. I think this is the last year for Memphis & the Spring Fling. I'm still not over the fact that our softball state championships are played in Mississippi.
  7. One note: It is not just financial aid to athletes, it's any type of financial aid period. I think there might be a few Div II schools that would like to compete in A, AA and AAA but are forced into Div II because of TSSAA and a few AAA schools coaches that couldn't stand getting beat every year by a school with less than 300 students ( fill in the blanks ).
  8. What does TRA stand for ? Filling out my state bracket and had never heard of them. Thanks
  9. Emma DeKalb pitched both games for Ryan. On Tuesday she struck out 10 and had about the same number yesterday in the championship game. Good luck to all at state !
  10. Good luck to Brentwood Academy, John Paul II and Father Ryan at state. I would suggest that all threads here stick to support of the teams, coaches, etc. There are way too many comments about individual players or coaches. This is a team sport and this board should reflect that concept. I am not naive enough to think that this game is mostly about pitching but if the team doesn't play good defense and hit the ball in critical situations they will have a tough time winning at regionals or state. PS: I am a fan now, my daughter having graduated two years ago. My support is for the team, coaches & parents and for good sportsmanship always. Paul Hiltz FRHSPURPLEFAN
  11. I agree with you, with Ben & Jamie in the dugout BHS will always be in the hunt. We tend to forget sometimes that the girls still have to play the game, not the coaches. Again, Brentwood will be there next year and the years to come. Good luck to Riley this summer !
  12. I saw Baylor & Goodpasture play to a 0 - 0 tie in pool play early in the season. Both teams pitched well but did not hit like they are now. Again, early in the season.
  13. He is OK & doing fine. He was released by his doctor about 2 weeks ago but did not coach 3rd base for a few games just to make sure he could get out of the way of foul balls OK. Ryan plays BA today @ 3:30 in the winners bracket final.
  14. Brentwood Academy, Battle Ground Academy, John Paul II & Father Ryan.
  15. I love this thread ! There is one team no one has mentioned yet. Let's wait until the champion is crowned in Southaven, then we can revisit this thread and make our final comments.
  16. Congrats to Brentwood Academy. They got the hits when they needed them and the Irish didn't. Shelby and Emma Dekalb both pitched good games. Ryan left 10 runners on base and could not find a big hit when they needed one. Good luck to both teams in the Regionals.
  17. My daughter also played with Valen at a younger age, 14 - U. Her potential was unlimited at that age and we all know how she progressed. My prayers and sympathies go out to her family and the DBCC team as well.
  18. There has been a new rule change this year in TSSAA and also ASA. A defensive player cannot block any base unless she has possession of the ball. I am not sure about intentionally running over a defensive player.
  19. I spoke with Phil Davidson on Friday and Saturday this weekend. He is home, doing well. The surgery went as planned. Don't know when he will be back in the dugout. The Lady Irish won the UPS/Pizza Magia Catholic Schools tournament in Louisville this weekend, posting a 4 - 1 record ( 24 - 5 runs) . Also, John Paul II won their division for an all Tennessee championship weekend. thumb
  20. Phil is a great advocate for girls fastpitch softball at Father Ryan and Tennessee. Our thoughts and prayers are with him, his family and the whole Father Ryan family.
