  1. I don't really get a lot of info about the situation. I only got on the boards this afternoon to check and see if what my friend told me was already posted. Like I said, I have no idea if it’s true or not.
  2. I don't know if this is true or not, but my friend from Jasper called me today and said he heard Coach Laws was NOT cleared by her doctor and would not be the coach this year. He heard the Moore is going to be holding practice today at 4:00.
  3. Sorry but I was wrong. I forgot about one other girl playing basketball. So that should make 11 total as of today.
  4. 7 girls showed up last night. 3 others play basketball and won’t be out there until the season is over.
  5. Well guys I talked with my friend from Jasper last night and he told me his daughter has not been given any schedule for the year and he has no idea what’s going on. He said he’s hearing that one day she is going to coach and the next day he’s hearing that she can’t coach because she’s not working. At this point who know what’s going on in Jasper. They might have a softball team and they might not. My opinion on this…if she’s going to coach…then coach. If she’s not…then make way for someone else to coach these girls. It’s not fair for these girls to work themselves to death over the off season just to not have a coach when its game time.
  6. I do know that the Whitwell Tiger have a new coach as well this year. He the girls basketball coach.
  7. Well I talked to my friend today and he tells me that its not for certian either way. If she does not coach, then a guy named Moore will be the head coach. Or that's the rumor right now. I don't know this Moore but he's a teacher at the high school. I don't know what he teaches and I don't know if he coaches any other sport. If the coach has not been working for a couple of months, she must be hurt pretty bad. Is there anyone else from the Jasper or Marion county area that's heard anything about this?
  8. I don't know more than that other than she is hurt and I don't think she's been teaching since the accident. I live in Murfreesboro and only get bits of information from a friend that lives in Jasper. His daughter plays on the team and I’m getting my info through him. I’m going to call him today and ask if he’s heard anything else about this.
  9. I hope the young Kilgore finds her place at Marion this season and I hope she does well. I don't really know her or her parents, but three schools in three years seems a Little ODD! However, I don't think that's the biggest problem Marion faces this year. Rumor has it that Gatlin (now Laws-married name) might not be coaching. It seems she got hurt while teaching in her classroom sometime before Christmas when a large piece of metal fell through the ceiling and hit her in the head. This will have a huge impact on this team. I hope whoever coaches can guide these girls through this season. I know they have 1 or 2 good seniors (1st base/pitcher & outfield), I think there only 2 juniors quite, 1 good sophomore (3rd) and sever good freshman (catcher, short &second). It should be an interesting season.
  10. You were sitting on WV's side and you were running your mouth??? You get what you diserved!!! I don't think it's cool to make a negative comment about the other team, regardless of what side you're sitting on, but that's your business. If you were sitting on WV's side, and made any type of negative comment about the WV team, the coach should have chewed you out. She has to take up for her players. Otherwise, what type of coach would she be. Your lucky the WV parents didn't get in your face.
  11. Guys, What about the young girl? This young girl obviously has some serious problems. If something is not done to correct this behavior now, she’s going to have a very hard life. The “World” will not tolerate this kind of attitude. I pray that the administrators at that school think about this child’s future and act appropriately. She should have learned a long time ago the lessons she’s sure to learn in the very near future. BUT, SHE CAN NOT BE “Sentenced to sports death” for this, otherwise, what will she learn. I believe she should be kicked off the team or made to be a bat girl for the remainder of the year, provided she acts as a young lady should. Next year, she should have a chance to redeem herself and have a chance to earn back everyone’s respect. If she continues to act the same way next year, then the AD may have no other choice than the completely remove her from all school related sports/activities. I’m in no way condoning this type of behavior. If feel that an athlete of any sport should be held responsible for their behavior on and off the field. But for now, this young person should be given a chance to fix the problem. Just my thoughts…
  12. You gals played hard SportyBabii15, keep it up. Hope your hand gets better…
  13. This is a problem with society as a whole, not just sports. Our children are taught to win at any cost. Coaches are pressured to win by parents, administration and the community. If a coach pulls a good starting player because that player acted badly and the team loose, then most coaches are going to be ridiculed. 90% of our children will not play college level sports and even a larger percentage will not play professional sports. We (parents, coaches, fans, administration) need to help our young players learn to play hard, but realize it’s only a game and ball will not last forever. All children need limits. If they’re not taught at an early age, they will learn a harder lesson later in life. Young players… If your team looses… If you strikeout… If you make an error… If an ump makes a bad call… It’s no big deal, keep you heads up and keep playing hard. Just my 2 cents…
  14. Thanks for the info. I like the garden hose drill, sounds great. The girl I'm working with can hit. She will sometimes try to swing the bat too hard resulting in pulling her head out or not hitting the center of the ball. She also gets a little tight in the box because she wants to hit so bad. I'm trying to get her to relax a little and remember to control her swing. I believe that hitting is 90% mental. If you're worried about striking out...then you will. Thanks for the info.
