Trying to argue where a private school should be place based soley on numbers just shows posters are very mis informed. There is a reason BA won the 5a (highest classification) state championship in 1995 and 1996 with 300 students and Webb won the 2a championship over goodpasture in 1996. Its two completley different schools with there goals in football. The tssaa had it right a few years ago when BGA, Webb, ECS, PJP2, Briarcrest, ECS, Harding Aca, Knox Catholic, Saint Benedict, Notre Dame, Goodpasture ect where in the same division.,,these teams are very similar football programs a step down from Baylor, McCallie, MUS, Ensworth, BA, MBA, CBHS ect. if you dont recognize this and agrue financial aid numbers and enrollement numbers ect just shows that you are not very well versed in Tennessee High School football and its history. Webb is not paying its head coach the amount of money MBA, ENsworth BA McCallie Baylor ect is..If Coach Meske got fired, which he never will, his next job isnt going to be the QBs coach for arizona cardinals coaching in a superbowl. Webbs administration isnt setting aside specific # of spots for great athletes to get into the school....it just isnt happening and if you think it is you have never met Scott Hutcheson the schools president, you dont know the head coach David Meske and you are a distant observer of Webb School.

Pretty much was a matter of depth Baylor could go 2 platoons Webb played every down and then Baylor figured out it could just run straight at a tired Webb front 7. Good game Webb just lacked depth and a middle linebacker that has a ut offer being out didn't help.

I played at webb and so im obviously a big fan. I think they have a much better shot this year than they had 2 years ago. It will all come down to the offensive line. Maryville has the advantage it just depends how big of an advantage. Same thing when i was at webb, we are small up front and have little depth on the line...but plenty of skill players as usual. Quarles is an excellent coach and if i were him id put that defensive end that has an offer from UT on the side TK runs his sweep to and itll be hard for webbs wing back and (depending on where he lines up) the tight end to block him and could potentially cause some issues. If i had to guess id say 28-14 maryville, good game but maryville scores 2 tds in the 4 quarter. Hope i wrong...i think we got a shot and if we do win itll be the best regular season win for webbs program to ever and a very proud night. Go Spartans!

Very sloppy 1st game for both teams. Alcoa needs to give the ball to #12 more, he runs hard. Webb fumbled too many times and just when they had momentum going for them, their whole team started cramping. At one point their starting qb/lb #1, starting db/wr/backup qb #8, and starting dT/OT #57, where all on the ground cramping at the end of the 3rd quarter. I thought it was 2 very even teams with alcoa just having more depth. The blance kid just needs some more games to get back in to it.

I think webb plays well in the first half but by the 4th quarter they can't keep the pace and alcoa pulls away with a 35-21 win. Webb has talent but i think all 11 players are going both ways and 2 starters are out, one being brock beeler who is a talented player. As a former webb player it is sad to see the numbers decreasing. 38 kids? i remember a few years ago there were 54 kids on the webb middle school team! The administration at that school, in particular the head master doesn't seem to understand how a southern prep school should be run. CAK is starting to understand the importance of football for a school. Good luck to all, and Go Spartans!

As a webb fan, congrats to usj. That qb was deadly accurate tonight, had a great arm. When a high school team can thow like that when he has no pressure all night its almost impossibe to stop. I thought the biggest 2 plays of the game was in the 3rd quarter when webb's LB dropped the int where he would of walked in the endzone and the very next play usj hits a 98 yard TD passon 3rd and 10! Thats a huge 14 point swing. Congrats to USJ and hope you all have a safe drive home and good luck to both teams in the championship game. Sad to see caleb blance leave, had great career at webb.

Webbs stands are bad. the press box is really nice though, probably one of the best in the state. they should add a grassy turf field. They need to add one section to the right side of the stadium and they should add additional visitor seating. It really is sad. Whenever they play a 5a school or higher the visiting teams band takes up 1/4 of the stadium. the problem is the administration and president is a california guy who does not understand southern prep schools or the importance of athletics and an esprit de corp. Just shows you how good Coach meske is at running a football and athletic department. If that school wanted to they could go out and recruit knoxville, maryville, alcoa, and oak ridge for kids and easily have the best teams in the state. Its the only private school in knoxville capable of doing it...but the president could care less. This is why Coach meske chooses to play in the lower division...he knows the school wont back him to be able to get the athletes in to compete against ensworth, ba, baylor, mus, ect.

Webb is a better team than that 40-0 loss to ensworth...i think they were in pretty big shell shock after all that happened the thursday before....but no question ensworth is a much Better team. Having seen ensworth and maryville play the same opponent. i will say pretty confidently that enworth is better than maryville. Elder is a better runner than prevo and all around ensworth is just better. Webb cant win a championship in D2aa but they can be as competitive as BGA is. If the school moves up this next time then they need to start going out in the knoxville area and being proactive in getting good players to the school. Webb is the only private school in the knoxville area and could have a monopoly on athletes if that administration truely had desire to be great in football.

i think your getting a little sensitive. What maryville did everyone expected...i wouldnt worry to much about it. I think this webb team will be a better team than last years...may take a few games to get there line going but i think in the end its a better team than last years. From only one game ive seen of maryville this year and very little of what i saw last year on tv against bearden, alcoa, and smyrna i would guess and say the maryville team this year will be regarded as better. Im sure a lot of that rides on next week. Very solid win to start the season..keeping thoes backs contained is tough no matter who it is. Good luck to maryville the rest of the way...very classy program run by a very classy coach. Hopefully we can give ensworth a tough game to give yall some extra ammunition to lay claim as best in state.

Hard to say which ones are better in my opinium...all of them are great...Give the blance brothers to maryville and prevo to webb and not much changes imo. Prevo had muuuuch bigger holes to run thrugh. Why does prevo line up in the backfield with his feet so close together...looked kind funny to me.

Maryville just controlled the line of scrimmage...Webb couldnt stop maryville. Webb could move the ball but they shot themeselves in the foot with penalties which stalled drives. Webb had to get a few more of thoes fumbles to give themeselves a shot. Maryville maybe had 4 or 5 fumbles and webb got 1 of them. Was very impressed with Todd kelly. Prevo is a great back too. The blance brothers are very quick and caleb is a tough one but they need a line. Good luck to maryville the rest of the way....if you will even need it!

Dont get upset by a comment and then turn around and make a similar dumb comment back at them...So far its all second hand information anyway on a message board .Saying a CAK dad is jealous is just as dumb esp. when he was just complementing Webbs program....CAK has gotten better and better over the years and trying to trash their program does not make Webb's any better. As a Webb fan ill say In the end Webb has to be able to move the football and score... b/c i dont see Webb being able to stop maryville. If webb has an upsett itll be something like 35-34..but if webb cant score and maryville shuts down the wing-t it could very easily be 35-7...its the first game of the season so its hard to judge...but when you got a future college qb playing its very hard on high school defenses to stop. Hope its a Good game.

Red robin you beat me to that, i was thinking about that last night and i had just remembered Ensworth and totally forgot to put that. Only one person said TK could do whatever he wants...As a sophomore he is very talented but i dont see him taking over a game anytime soon esp against maryville. He will be an SEC player by the time he is a senior barring injury....i am willing to put a small bet on that. Good point about maryville....they havent lost to a knox county public school in looong time. No on here is trying to knock maryville down....everyone from webb knows theyre awesome...the webb people are trying to garner a little respect...that most in the knoxville area dont seem to give them...yet, most of the maryville fans have shown that until one dumb comment about a sophmore player doing whatever he wants.

Last public school webb lost to was in 2004 to Austin East and Alcoa. Of course Catholic beat them in 2008 so if you want you can include them as a public school too. But not too bad for a small knoxville private school playing: Powell, CAK, Halls, AE, Central, Bearden, West, Anderson County, Catholic etc. Interesting fact, Alcoa and MBA are the only 2 schools webb has never beaten who they have played atleast 2 games against. 0-2 against MBA (2001 and 2002)and Webb is like 0-8 against Alcoa...including the year Webb won the 2a state championship in 1996 when they were in Alcoas district. They were 13-2 and lost to alcoa early in the season 34-31 or something...Maybe they can end that stat next year...will be very difficult! history is not on our side with the tornadoes.

I remember when MBA played Byrnes...and got beat like 56-14. I asked some of the mba guys what it was like and they said at half time they were sitting around thinking what the heck did our coach get us in to. Hopefully this trinity team isnt like that byrnes team...mba has beaten trinity in the past.

Lets be fair. Its kind of a catch-22 for Webb. As a Webb fan I understand we are not going to be able to compete every year in football in D2AA...take away school sizes and all we all know that d2AA is the best cassification in the state. Your asking a school to compete with what can essentially be labled as something better than 6a competition every year. Webb doesnt get the athletes MBA, Ensworth, McCallie, BA, MUS, CBHS does on a yearly basis for a number of reasons. Every once in a while they will have some good teams like BGA, but we will see how many state title runs BGA will realisticaly have in d2AA...they seem like this year they have a good team, but lets just see. So getting on webb for not jumping up to play in what is essentially 3-a school to play in 6-a on a yearly basis is not very fair. I will say this...Webb does have a better program than farragut and would probably of gone at least 3-2 against them in the past 5 years. Not to mention there are more sports than football that the school has to make a decision about. Can webb only move up in football or is it a all or nothing deal? Webb is very similar to BGA. Can BGA and other qualifying schools Move down in certain sports? Bc if it was a pick and choose im pretty sure Webbs womans bball team would have choosen to stay up. Just a thought.

As a Webb fan we are really thankful for an opportunity to be able to play a team and program like Maryville in an atmosphere that will be as exciting as what will occur on Saturday. As a fan of them I don’t feel disrespected by bigearl. Thats his opinion and its more associated with how good he thinks this Maryville team is and its understandable. We understand that in some years Maryville would blow us out 42-10...hopefully it’s not this year for everyone’s sake that will be going to watch the game....but we also believe this is one of the years in which we have one of our stronger teams and think we can go in and compete against Maryville and if things work out perhaps pull off an upset. Webb doesn’t shy away from playing the best teams in the state...we've played Alcoa in the past 8 years, mccallie, Baylor, MBA, Ensworth, BGA w/ flemming and karl, Briarcrest when they had those great teams, and just about every school in the knoxville area that’s willing to play us. Discounting the knoxville schools b/c we have a pretty good streak going against them and just about all refuse to play us now, have been blown out against those other teams but also in some years we have been quite competitive with them and have won...we feel this is one of the years in which we can compete. But you never know we may be getting ready to play one of the best Maryville teams they have had, either way we known maryville will be pulling for us next week against Ensworth .

Winning breads confidence...but i think a lot of webb people should be cautious..i think they are getting a lot confidence stemming from when they were very competitive with maryville in a scrimmage last year (i think webb scored 4 tds to maryville's 2) even though i believe maryville had only been practicing for maybe a day or 2 (not to mention they did not have a whole week scheming to stop a wing-t). As a webb fan i understand that if webb doesnt play well and makes mistakes maryville could win big and easy....they are very good. Even if webb loses the opening games big i do think this webb team in the end will be better than the previous 2 webb teams. The entire back 7 on defense is back and better...the backfield is better and the reciever position is better. The qb replacing parker will be good..in fact he played in the scrimmage against maryville last year when parker was on a baseball recruiting trip.

Webb will dress a little over 50 players this year. Maryville will have a huge advantage upfront esp. with thoes 2 div 1 recruits...but webb has been able to hold up with bigger lines in the past as mentioned before with the big powell lines (03-06), when webb won 4 years in a row, and recently with the catholic lines being pretty big (kerbyson ect.). What Webb had on thoes two teams that they wont necessarly have with maryville is the better skill players. With powell and catholic (esp. last year) Webb just had better skill players than them. But as we know prevo and the robinette are talented. This kind of reminds me of 1999 when webb played Central. Webb had a good team that year and played central who was the 4-a state runner-up in 99. Webb was up 14-13 at halftime but central took control in the 4th and won 31-14. On paper I see the game being like that one with Maryville taking over in the 4th. But as a webb fan one can hope that the qb and the new maryville wr's are not in sync this early in the season and webb's experiened LBs and DB's (all returning starters) can help slow down maryville and allow webbs dangerous running backs turn this into a heck of a game. Hope its a good game to watch and itlll be exciting to see how good the webb team really is as they really step up the schedule this year opening with 2 of the top teams in the state with Maryville and Ensworth.

A minor correction but Webb had 4 state championships and 2 runner-ups in the last 20 years. state champs 96(2a), 06, 09, 10 and runners up 97, 05. Didnt check the wins... But yall dont care anyways bc its a private school....makes no sense

I believe Daniel Smith of knox Webb was the 1st 5x state placer in Tennessee 4,6,5,4,2 (1998-2002) Lee connel was next the following year, although Lee was a 2x state champ to go along with it. It makes it a lot easier to do it after the split in 97 but a feat to be proud of none the less.

Didnt ensworth beat smyrna by 16? 30-14? As a webb fan i think those backs are pretty special but theres no way i can honestly tell how good they are until they play some other teams. Next year vs Alcoa should tell me a lot! dont get me wrong i think webb is a very good team beat ecs and destroyed a catholic team that played columbia very close but until next year ill hold any judegement on them being a top 5 school in the entire state...probably top 15/10 though. Webb played aloca in 03 and 04...lost both...i believe the 04 webb team finished 6-6, 03 finished 4-6,...so not the strongest of webb teams (note they did play a tougher schedule)...the 04 team was good starting out but they lost there starting qb mid season with a heart problem and never really recovered, lost to alcoa 35-7 that year. Yet before the d2/d1 split webb was in alcoas district in 2a every year and won the state in 1996 over goodpasture (sound familure!) The next year the private schools were kicked out. Sooooo i would not call webb a jv team, replace webb and alcoa this year and webb would be atleast 14-1...only loss to maryville...if they were to lose (in scrimmmage play webb held there own against maryville scoring 4tds to maryvilles 2). Alcoa has been on a roll of late with getting incredible athletes but dont come on here and act like alcoa is playing in some incredible division in 3a... and webb is crap. Id put money down that webb would beat the 1a, 2a, 4a, and 5a public school champs...alcoa and maryville/smyrna may be a reach but rest assured countrycan webb is no jv.
