  1. Don't you think your putting the cart before the horse? We do have a hard game this week with Boone. One game at a time please. There have been many a good team lose because of looking ahead!! Are you sure your not a Boone supporter posing as a Rebel fan?
  2. Correction, we have won 5 in our history and when you get through with that crystal ball that allows you to see into the future can I borrow it? I would like to do some heavy betting on some pro teams and make a cool million. You wouldn't be trying to fan some flames would ya?
  3. I think that you are partially correct. I personally believe that D-B has nothing to worry about however South and it's community has LOTS to be concerned over. You only need to look at North to see where I am headed. When Sullivan County first built North and South, D-B, North and South all had approx. the same number in their respective student bodies. D-B probably a tad more. North had a larger student body than South. My point is this, Kingsport city has already annexed into the South region, little by little quietly. The Rock Springs area, which is my home, has been slowly picked. South's student body now only has approx 1000 students for this school year. I could be wrong but total annexation by Kingsport city will be the end to Sullivan South high school. I personally know someone that is on the faculty at D-B and we have talked about this issue. She told me that, of course, D-B is bursting at the seams. I asked what the city school board planned to do when all of the annexation plans that were on the board finally went thru. (The moratorium on Colonial Heights is lifted in 2010). Her answer was this. North and South would be made into High Schools grades 9-10 that would feed a Senior High School D-B grades 11-12. Take it for what its worth. Granted this could be hearsay or it could be what the actual plans are. That is why I think the only way to spare South high school is consolidation of the 3 school systems in Sullivan County. If however the city would step up to the plate and say, yes after we fully annex the suburbs of Kingsport, which by the way would make Kingsport a city of roughly 70,000, we will operate 2 high schools. I personally don't know exactly what the right answer should be, however I think Kingsport has burnt some bridges in the past for not recognizing how strong people feel about the communites they grew up in.
  4. I am a South Rebel fan through and through. I am a 1983 graduate and when I was at South there was a healthy respect/rivalry between D-B and South. The series with the Indians was always hard fought and the out come was always close. The last few years have been hard on us Rebels as we had fallen on hard times. Hopefully that ship has been uprighted. With that said there is no other team that I want the Rebels to be competitive with and win more than the Indians. However, I will not bad mouth, put down or otherwise ridicule anyone that plays for or cheers for D-B. I know that the flames have been fanned by both sides from time to time, however I would hope that the people posting as South fans would stop trying to rub it in. I just don't understand that. These are 16, 17 and 18 year old kids out there giving it there all. I congradulate D-B on a good year, not up to standards of late, but none the less a good year. For those Rebel fans that don't remember what it feels like to be in the position they are in now, which is winning with class, just stand in front of the field house, look up and read all the conference championships and district championships that came before and be proud of the fact we are adding another to that sign. Now with that said I agree with the posters on times-news press coverage it has been lacking, for every Kingsport high school. Thanks and let's go gettem REBS!!!!!
  5. I can assure you that the Rebel coaches and players are fully aware of Boone's players and coaching staff and have nothing but respect. This will be a hard fought close game no doubt. Boone always plays tough. Here's hoping to a good hard fought game with no injuries!! and as always GO REBELS!!!
  6. I think there is pro's and con's to both systems. Kingsport city definelty has an outstanding system! There dedication to Arts Education is amazing. Notice the Band. On the flip side of that coin, education excellence at Miller Perry and Rock Springs elementary schools has been recognized by the state. I don't see how consolidation of the systems would hurt D-B's heritage or tradition and please remember that there is also heritage and tradition at South and at North. I and alot of people in the South zone love the high school there, just as the city residents love D-B, we don't want to lose our high school. I have read the times-news articles of late and Alderman Joh has stated just to move forward basically that people would get over it and that she is in favor of building new schools in the area to support the city residents after annexation. Am I missing something? There are schools already there. I want a healthy D-B, I want a healthy South. I don't think there should be only one solution. I hope our elected leaders come together for the better of our kids and our communities.
  7. Sorry blazer, but Boone beat Central at Central on Sept 9th, 29-18.
  8. Someone has to have an opinion on this? THSVIKING consolidation effects Bristol city as well. I truly would like to know what peoples opinion are especially those in Kingsport. Thanks!
  9. First off let me say if this is a topic that should not be posted here please tell me where it should be posted. Secondly I do not want this to turn into a shouting match I simply want others sane opinions. As everyone in Kingsport and it's suburbs know Kingsport is Annexing at a fast pace. Now there is talk of consolidating the City and County school systems. I personally believe that annexation is what hurt North high school atheltics. I feel the same is going to happen to my alma mater at South when broad sweeping annexation of Rock Springs and Colonial Heights takes place. If Kingsport would agree to run 2 high schools and keep Sullivan South in place I think I would be ok with that move. Bottom line is I do not want to see my alma mater closed or to become a feeder school to D-B. Ultimately I have zero influence and zero say in the situation. I have heard from reading news clippings that the state is going to go to 95 school systems. That would mean one per county. I don't know enough about consolidation to say "Oh yeah that would be great". I am aware of the apprehensions of the city systems considering consolidation. I know that Knox county and Knox city consolidated a few years back maybe someone from that area can give us their opinon as well. Anyway I would like to know how you feel and lets please keep it sane and sensible. Thanks!!
  10. Please someone correct me if I am incorrect, but form what I heard North held the RB Hicks in check and North's line over powered Boone. Now keep in mind this is what I was told. I did not see the game. Someone from Boone or North please clue us in. I might also add that South had a rough time with North, granted it was in horrible weather conditions, but none the less South struggled. Someone from Boone or North please clue us in to that game. I am curious as well. Thanks
  11. Not sure what you mean. South hasn't played Boone this year. Unless your referring to M-West would have a tougher time beating Boone a second time. Speaking of which could someone from Boone or M-West give me a summary of the game they played. I think it was close for a while. Thanks and GO REBELS!!!
  12. Hey THS, I heard the Viking v. Longhorn game was delayed in the second quarter. Have the restarted yet and what are they saying about finishing up?
  13. D-B game called in 3rd, South vs North had about a 50 min delay, dangerous lightning all around the region. Hope everyone stays safe!!
  14. Kind words GLee, I knew this game would be close. Cyclones never gave up! Very happy the Rebels escaped with the W. Good luck to the cyclones the rest of the way!!
  15. According to tri cities sports Jake Hicks will more than likely get his second start again this week. I get the feeling that QB Phillips is mostly healed and could play but Coach Stacy Carter would like to keep him out to ensure that his foot is completely healed. I for one expect a dog fight, just like always. I also feel that this game will not be a blow out by anyone. I also don't believe that anyone is going to "sneak" up on the Rebels, regardless of wins and losses. (By the way I can't recall anyone ever taking Betsy lightly, what a fatal mistake that would be.) I believe the coaches know that there is way too much at steak and will have the Rebels mentally ready for whoever the play. GO BIG BLUE!!!!!!!!!!!!
  16. Both seem to be comparable in speed, and both are accurate passers. The receiving game was lacking earlier in the year, however it has been coming around the last couple of weeks. Both backs are quality backs. The defense for the Rebels seems to have really stepped up from the second half of the Greenville game and the Johnson County game.
  17. QB Phillips is probable for the game Friday. According to Tricitiessports.com, Jake Hicks will probably get the start, however we could see Phillips if needed. I have seen Hicks play in relief for Phillips and I personally think he can lead the team. I expect a hard fought, close game with a group of mad Vikings. Look forward to the chat this week. GO BIG BLUE!!!!!!
  18. I could be wrong, however, I feel that this South team has the weapons, if they stay healthy to be a threat to go deep in the playoffs. That being said, this is hs football and anything, I mean anything can happen. I believe they will be ready for a tough bunch of Cougars. I hope both teams play hard without injuries. GO BIG BLUE!!!
  19. Just wanted to drop in and say WOW, what a great game to watch. Congrats to D-B's players, students and fans. I certainly hope that your QB Sam is Ok and his injury is not serious. South had their chances tonight, it just wasn't in the cards. It was great for this game to return back to the status it deserves. What a crowd at Death Valley tonight, not a seat left in the place. Thank you Coach Stacy Carter and staff and thank you Rebels for making this old Rebel proud. South's QB #10 is just a soph., man I thought he was impressive. Just needs to learn to hold on to that ball. Anyway great game to watch and I wish the Indians all the luck in the world the rest of the season and to any Rebel coaches, players or students that may read this board, thank you for your restoring the Rebel pride. Now go and make some noise in the Mountian Lakes Conference!!!! GO BIG BLUE!!!!!!
  20. You know its this kind of holier than thou attitude that alot of the Indian fans spew that makes it extememly hard to respect what the Indians have done on the field. Don't lecture South or their coaches on something you obviously know nothing about. Let's talk about D-B students setting off firecrackers under the bleachers when South played there a few years back, or sending black roses to the student body. That doesn't make anyone from D-B low class now does it? Of course not!! It's all in fun. As far as this outkast stuff goes, I wonder just how many students and atheletes attend and play for D-B that should be attending North high school or South for that matter. It's amazing what annexation can do for a program. Also lets not forget that the last three years that the Big 10 was a conference it was won by the SOUTH REBELS!!! not the Indians.
  21. I do not condone anything that is racially motivated. However if we are pointing fingers at one fan base I could name some personal experiences that were the result of D-B students over the years. This is no doubt a fierce rivalry, that South unfortunately, has not kept up its end in the game in keeping it that way. I am not predicting a South win, I do however, expect with this coaching staff in place, for South to keep it respectable this week and for years to come. South has good feeder schools in place and should be competitive. Anyway good to see everyone is getting fired up for this game. That's the way it should be. GO BIG BLUE!!!!!!!!!!
  22. I have been a long time reader on coachT but have never posted a reply or topic. While I will not even venture a guess as to what the outcome of this game might be, I must say how proud I am of Coach Stacy Carter and his staff for bringing back excitement to death valley that I haven't seen since the early 90's when the Rebels won back to back to back conference titles in the old Big 10 conference. To me this game lost some of it's luster when the TSSAA split the schools into different classes. D-B rocketed to success in 5A and South suffered under some less than desireable coaching changes that definetly hurt the program. A poster stated earlier that there is no love lost with this rivalry, it certainly isn't as intense as it was in its earlier years. The 2 schools are a mere 4 to 5 miles apart. There are families split when this game is played. I am a Rebel alumus and proud of the school I attended. I always root the Indians on when they aren't playing my Rebels and I certainly hope for an exciting game with no injuries!!! And yes arrive early, although Death Valley seats a large number of people, I do believe with the excitement level at South being very high, the stadium should be packed. I believe in 1981, the second year of South there was around 10,000 to 11,000 people at the game. I also remember having to stand in line at D-B one year for and hour to get a ticket. Here's hoping for a return to those days!!! GO BIG BLUE!!!!!!!
