  1. I once had a friend from Lafayette. Then I grew up. This man was wise beyond his years. At 34 and already a Junior in high school, sometimes his refreshing sense of humor was too much to handle. Other times his deep and invasive philosophies hurt me to my inner core. One time, several years back, he was asked to design a postcard to be sold at all of the Macon County gas station/hair salons considering he was on the fast track to being top of his class at the afore mentioned ripe age of 34. His bold yet simple statement shocked and horrified some but at the same time freed others to, how shall I say, feel comfortable and open. I will never forget the slogan that my good friend suggested be headlined on the postcard. "Macon County--Why go across town when you can go across the hall?"
  2. No class? In 2001, who charged Westmoreland's coaches entry into the gates? -Macon County In 2002, who got onto the field on a Thursday night and tore apart the freshly painted midfield logo? -Macon County In 1999, who sent half a dozen black roses to a Westmoreland player who had just came off of season-ending ACL surgery? -Macon County At least Westmoreland keeps this supposed lack of class contained to the actual game of football.
  3. My goodness, it is Sunday, Macon County plays again in less than a week. Move on, forget about Westmoreland. Go ahead and start hyping yourselves up for another game that you cannot, and will not win. If Westmoreland and Macon County played 5 times this season, this past Friday night would have been as close as you guys would have gotten to beating the Eagles.
  4. Owls, you wouldn't be one of the ones who blamed the refs for SC losing the Region championship game, now would you? Or was it you that claimed the Owls threw the game on purpose to give the Eagles a false sense of security? Either way, I wouldn't be suprised. Why, exactly, are there more people from Smith County on this thread than there are from Westmoreland and Macon County combined? Oh I have refreshed my own memory. 43% of ALL registered CoachT members are registered with a Carthage IP address. Do any of you guys work?
  5. I know that it may be hard to spell, theotherone, but "punctuation" is not a difficult thing to use. For everyone's sake, us a period every now and then. The block in the back may have been the worst call I have ever seen. The ref that was about 3 feet from the block did not make the call, the ref that was at midfield, about 20 feet away, did. And no, it was not an angle ordeal because the blocker was on the side of the ref who did NOT make the call. Also, the flag was thrown after both the blocker and blocked were already getting up off the ground. That was pitiful. I didn't see the incident for the conduct call. I am sure however that there could have been several of those thrown against both teams all night. Who else seen the hit that #3 (Bohanon) for Westmoreland put on #13 (his brother Bohanon) for Macon County on the end around option? That was killer. Maybe he should have made the better choice and stayed at Westmoreland like his brother. It is going to be a very, very tough year for Macon County. They just got beat by one of the weaker teams on their schedule. If Westmoreland can begin to click at the right time, however, they could make some noise later on in the season. Youth eventually becomes experienced.
  6. First of all I would like to say hello to my good buddy Antwan. Westmoreland isn't exactly in the same boat they were last year when I returned from my hiatus and you accused me of being a fair-weather fan now are they? What happened to Queenie? Secondly, concerning the game tonight, I don't care how bad Macon County is, if Westmoreland does not drastically improve from last week, the Tigers will have an easy way to go. I couldn't even find film of a softer Westmoreland team if I tried. With that said, the potential that this team has is far greater than they have showed thus far. With the speed and size that we have, they should be contending for the Region once again. Maybe experience IS that big of a deal. Finally, mc101, you crack me up. This post coming from a resident who probably participates in Lafayette's annual "Tractor Pull" and "Pig Boggin'" competitions. Has anyone ever mentioned the time in 2001 that the Macon County staff made our coaches pay entry fee for the game? Yes, the game we were participating in. Us players got off lucky, I guess. Now THAT is the pride that these Tigers are so eager to brag about.
  7. I can assure you that whoever was talking to you was not a member of the coaching staff. Be careful with the accusations you throw out next time.
  8. No, you cannot say that you told us so. We played the same Smith County team tonight as we did in October. We knew you were a good team then, and you proved it once again tonight. We caught enough breaks to win then, we did not tonight. The Eagles did not play as fundamentally sound tonight as they did in the first meeting, but found other ways to hang around. A few missed tackles proved to be very costly. I hope the Westmoreland fans do not get on here and start yelling crap about the refs. Yes, there were probably 2 calls that should have been made, but did they change the outcome? No. Westmoreland caught a huge break going into half that was unbelievable. If that would have happened at the end of the third instead of second, I believe the outcome of the game would have been different. Momentum is huge in high school football. The Owls carried it for the majority of the night. The Owls seemed to have too many ball carries to gameplan against. Lord I hope #5 is a senior. He is the one Owl that seems to beat us everytime we lose to you guys. I really did not think the field conditions was an advantage to either team, just whoever was on defense. I was a little suprised to see Westmoreland's #4 not get a single carry. He is our fastest player. Maybe he is fumble-prone, I don't know. What happened to the Owls' kicker? Congratulations to the Owls, your team is a class act. I would love to see you upset the Alcoans, but I'm afraid you are a longshot.
  9. Thanks. I would like to say that I speak for all Westmoreland fans when I post. But unfortunately, I usually do not. Is it just me or can you tell the difference between posters who have actually played and posters who just want to run their mouth?
  10. Any SC folks going up early to tailgate?
  11. Five and a half hours till kickoff! I cannot stand the wait. I'm glad the players are finally suiting up. I heard that practice was cancelled all week because they knew they couldn't overcome the 21 point head start that the Owls already have. All joking aside, I have a feeling that this will be the best football game many of us have ever seen. I just hope that the refs, coaches, injuries, and mud all play minimal roles so that the players can decide the game on a 100% level. Can't freaking wait. Someone wins by 6 points.
  12. Trust me, no one from Westmoreland would go all the way to Carthage to trash a facility that already looks, well, trashed. Your boys couldn't get enough motivation from the natural situation? Did the coaches have to add a little heat to the fire? I thought we provided plenty of locker room material. Guess not.
  13. Actually, basketball season started tonight. But it looks like Westmoreland will be without their star basketball player Kowalski for at least a few more weeks.
  14. Yes, it is obvious that you are an English wiz. Just look at your work. Props to you zonepirate, that was pretty dang funny.
  15. Why do 90% of the posters in this thread seem as though they graduated from Lafayette? I know they do not have that many who walk the line. And no, I am not an English teacher. I am a student.
  16. It does my heart good to watch someone try to make fun of someone else, but yet they fumble over their own grammar while trying to do so. After a comma, you continue to use lower case letters, unless you are using a proper noun. *Mess it up so bad(ly)* *Nobody, not no body* *Anyway(-s) not any ways* *And once again, lower case letters after the comma*
  17. If you don't think there will be enough seating, stay home. Home field advantage is what Westmoreland gets for winning the Region. Maybe you guys should have sent the real Carthage team if you wanted to play at home. You are more than welcome to come sit on the home side, but we will not be moving to let you squeeze in.
  18. In 2000 Westmoreland lost to Goodpasture by 1 point in the regular season and David Lipscomb by 6 in the regular season. They then went to upset the #3 team in the state (Tyner) in the first round and then lose to Goodpasture by 8. A number of records in the record book are set by players who played in 2000. Any of the guys on the team this year who actually seen the team from 2000 play would admit that they were pretty good. If you are an actual Westmoreland fan, there is no way that you can say that the team of 1995 is not the best Westmoreland has ever had, and more than likely the best we ever will have. Yes, Clint Brown did win Mr. Football two years in a row, but a lot of that had to do with guys like Derek Bandy, Nicky Booker, and another Mr. Football winner Corey Dobbs blocking for him. They also had a heck of a passing game that no one could stop, therefore no one could focus on the run. They started seniors at every position but two...on both sides of the ball. They also beat the eventual state champs in week 1 of the season, pretty convincingly. Some sloppy play and a questionable onside kick recovery ended their season at Meigs County in the fourth round of the playoffs. There is nothing to take away from this year's team. They are a really good one. And this is probably one of the most exciting seasons that Westmoreland has ever experienced. But to say they are the best ever, I'm not so sure.
  19. I would not quite go that far. I am sure the 2000 team wishes they could play in this region, and I am sure the 90-95 teams would have a little to say about the "best season ever." Has anyone else heard that Goodpasture will be back in our region next year along with East Robertson? I think if Westmoreland, York, and Smith County all teamed up we could play with Goodpasture.
  20. Tezmania eats no one up. I am still wondering exactly what Tezmania is. Is it catching a screen and getting popped in the mouth for your only touch of the game? If so, we welcome all the Tezmania you want to bring.
  21. What is going on here? Only 61% are picking Smith County in the Big Ones contest. That is ridiculous. There must be a few Owls expecting the underdog to win again. Everyone knows that the total number of registered Carthage fans compared to the total number of Coacht members is way more than 61%. Now THAT is something that you guys cannot argue.
  22. Like I said before, Smith County automatically played their worst game in school history because they were on the wrong end of the scoreboard. That seems to happen quite often when the Owls visit Westmoreland doesn't it? Anyone remember the last time they made the trek up the hill? Let me think...circa 2000. Didn't you guys have an all-state fullback or something that year? 2 or 3 touchdown favorite, (like most spreads made by the Carthage faithful) but the scoreboard seemed a little different that game as well. I know I know, it was the worst game Smith County EVER played. Errrr, just another excuse for the unbeatables to be....well, beaten. Does any of this really matter? No. Westmoreland is as healthy as they have been all year, and from what I understand Smith County is as well. We are both coming off big emotional wins. We are both 2-0 in the new season. Looks like the stage is set for a no-excuse ballgame. I truly hope both teams play their "A" game and that neither team gets an abundance of calls so that we can really see who the better team is. Other than a few holes in the passing game, Westmoreland played a pretty solid game against York last night. I am confident things will not be different for us this Friday. I am considering tailgating, who wants to join?
  23. Wow, the toothbrush was invented in Westmoreland? That is something to be proud of! Allin, with what you said, it should be called a hairsbrush? Or how about a headbrush? Exactly what has Smith County produced? Al Gore? Haha. So I guess that means you guys invented the internet? Let's not push it, we will just be proud you guys can use a computer. Tell cousin Gomer I said hello. I am glad you guys are so confident that the team that was "supposed" to show up the first time will show up this time. That way, you won't have any excuses when you go home disappointed once again. Oh wait, I can hear it now--the referees. You know it is funny, and strange, that the "real" Smith County team never loses. Bigreid, I can imagine that it is extremely easy for our players to get a little motivated from a bunch of middle-age trash-talking hillbillies who probably have not played a down of football in their life. Let me make it a little easier for you guys to understand. If the players on our football team came and told you that you were terrible at throwing the trashcans back on the ground after emptying them in the back of the truck, you would probably get a little angry.
