  1. good, yes they were. the best ever???????????????? not a snowball's chance in you know where. maybe for maryville they were the best but how about a-e with leroy thompson???? alcoa had billy williams (ut and arizona cardinals), shannon mitchell (georgia and san diego chargers), jamie henry (mississippi state) and a few others who played college ball. by the way that team in '89 15-0, beat murvul 24-0 and was ranked by the usa today 18th in the nation. were they not 2A???? but they are not supposed to be in the same "league" as murvul. na, other way around. how bout webb with chad pennington?????? and i would take dustin lindsey and brandon warren over those other 2 anyday (so would fulmer and bowden). disagree if you wish, but murvul is not the perfect football program you think. until you all have a team that is rank inside the top 20 nationally, don't talk about how you are the "greatest ever." before you assume my "ignorance" you may wish to find out who i am. riverdale beats you oak ridge beats you central may beat you again, it's amazing how murvul begins to win championships only after they go to 5 classifications. i know, you won some before but there was like a 20 year drought or so. did you ever win a championship at the 3A level when there was only 3 classifications???? nope, zero, notta, zilch. enough of the best ever trash. red sox nation good luck warren was not stopped by murvul b/c he didn't play. guarantee you, they nor anyone else has a defender that can guard him. tell bowden with your "knowledge" that he's over rated. or why don't you tell him to his face.
  2. beat all of them know, but you all keep undermining alcoa and underestimating them just b/c they are a 2a school. ask mccallie (private school) how good they are. ask brentwood academy (private school) how good they were in '89. you all can talk all you want and so will i. bottom line, alcoa is one of the best teams in the state and would be most other teams regardless of division. just b/c you have more players doesn't mean you'll win. and i don't care what anyone says, if warren plays the murvul game is completely different (i.e. alcoa wins). one other thing, i know they were just scrimmages (you really can't tell that much from them) but alcoa did outplay central and oak ridge.
  3. yeah right. and i suppose your john madden of high school football
  4. let me clarify what I meant when I said that alcoa was a 1A school playing 2A ball and should be in 3A. the size of the school is 1A. competition wise they are more of a 3A. for that matter, they could beat most if not all 4A and 5A teams. as for basketball, alcoa's history speaks for itself. before there were any classifications, they won 2 state championships. ohh, how many does murvul have?? (zero). coach osborne is still ranked nationally in the top 10 for all time wins by a high school coach. at basketball they can compete at any level.
  5. uhh yeah there is. Maryville has never had the best offensive attack ever. Good and solid, but not the best. Guarantee you this. The team that contains murvilles running game, beats them. why????? b/c traditionally they don't have the athletes to win simply based on talent.
  6. it was a great game from the start to the finish. mccallie is a very good team, especially on the offense. alcoa could have added another score at the end, they had a 1st and goal on the 2 with 1 minute left. they decided to take a knee which was probably the best move. can't say enough about dustin lindsey, his game was pretty awesome. the only thing that concerns me from this game is that alcoa needs to sure up its pass defense. credit mccallie though, their qb passed the ball like he was running the usc offense. good win for alcoa and thumbs up to coach reid for scheduling mccallie which provided a good test that will pay benefits come playoff time
  7. They are a 1A school playing in 2A and probably should be in 3A. The low number of students is something we take pride in as an alumni.
  8. Rockwood and Harriman may be the oldest (although I've heard stats that say Maryville-Alcoa is the oldest) but it is not the best. Alcoa-Maryville hands down. 2 schools with unprecedented success in their respective divisions separated by a little creek.
  9. wow, making excuses. a loss is a loss. too much is made of the margin of victory. i expect maryville to win but they are not unbeatable. they had better play well b/c wb will give them a scare if they don't. we all know that riverdale would wipe the field with maryville in 5A. ooltewah is still a contender in 5A and if wb beat a contender in 5A then they obviously have a team to be reckoned with. you beat maryville by execution; not speed, talent or creativity. when you execute well against them, the speed and talent take care of themselves. but, maryville wins b/c they execute better than the other teams (i.e. coaching). murville--28 blount-- 17
  10. remember Meadows coached Alcoa before. Because of that, he knows what it takes to beat maryville.
  11. you brave fans are funny. bottom line: they choke. i'm not a william blount fan either. so, i really don't care about wb. a better example would be to say that wb beating maryville would be like the cubs winning the world series (although i don't believe this is that far fetched). just don't promote the braves as greatness. good yes, great never. red sox nation
  12. uh......you're wrong. just b/c its close doesn't mean alcoa will lose. look back at the 2A championship; it was close and Alcoa even came from behind to win.
  13. good example: the braves!!!! please. they choke every year.
  14. I think Alcoa wins in a hard fought game. Alcoa 27-13
  15. get your facts straight, he didn't break the rules. unless you were there, don't judge what you didn't witness. isn't it funny that maryville did not become a good team until the tssaa went to 5 classifications?????? have to wander that if there were only 3 classes if maryville would be winning state championships. i think not. riverdale would beat you every year; if you even got that far. as far as me being an idiot, well i will let my college degree and masters degree do the talking. oh, i almost have a doctorate as well.
