  1. First, let me make this perfectly clear. Shelbyville with an uninjured Fuller, is without a doubt the best team in the state and one of the best in the nation. They are well coached and have enough supporting players to play around Fuller and Newman that they are not going to be beat by many teams. Now to the game Friday night against Greeneville. Two things stand out in that game that I think many have discussed on this thread that I think were critical to the outcome of this game. 1.) Shelbyville pressed from baseline to baseline, this was as aggressive as any high school game I have ever seen. The point guard for Greeneville was "mugged" as someone put it, by two and sometimes three players at a time the entire game. How can you put this much pressure for 32 minutes on one player, and that player never shot a free throw due to a foul the entire game. As physical as it was with hand checks, reaches, pushing it was brutal to watch this occur all night without the referees keeping it in check. 2.) For seasoned referees who are supposed to be the "best" in the state to call a technical foul on Greeneville's post player in the 4th quarter, that removed her from the game for throwing her arms up while looking at her coach was just ridiculous. A warning might have been in order, but the ref. who made the call was just looking for the chance to call the T. Greeneville made a lot of errors, and Shelbyville won the game, but I believe the officiating had WAY TOO MUCH of an influence in the outcome of this game, when at this stage of the season it should be determined by the level of play of the teams on the floor. Reguardless, congradulations to Shelbyville on another State Title. And Congradulations to the Lady Green Devils of Greeneville!!!! You should be very proud of yourselves, and have nothing to be ashamed of. You accomplished this year, many firsts in this schools Girls Basketball program and set the standard for teams to come. Greeneville will be back to the 'Boro a few times in the next few years.
  2. In more ways than you know, I believe that this is a show of support for Burkey. I don't think anyone on here doesn't agree he is very knowledgable of the game. I think the support shown here is that there any many who would back him to do what's right. I think that from an administration standpoint he may feel he has his hands tied, and from the Community may not know since it's his first year. But this town would stand behind him for doing what is right. I think Greeneville proved that with the boys coach. Many may not like his style either, but when it came to discipline, he gave Greeneville Boys Program a much needed adjustment. And he has been very successful at winning and building character. And when it came to administration problems with Duncan, the town showed up and supported him. So wareagle you're wrong about support, it's there. And it's not just about parents.
  3. I've waited to weigh in on this but feel that I must get across some things. I think gvdevils has some very good points and most if honest with themselves would agree alot more than what they will probably ever admit. The part I see is that the coach seems to be fueling this attitude. I really thinks he looks at this as leadership is some strange way. And it is, but in a very negative way. There have been many "leaders" that have proven to not be the best for this world. And this "leader" has taken down some of the enthusiasm and love of the game for many on this team, and has split the TEAM into sides. And I don't think that coach see's that he's lost respect from all sides by showing favoritism, having double standards and even at times praising some of this behavior. The other point that many won't want to admit is that her level of play definitely changes with whose on the court at the time. I could go back and specifically point out on game film times where she works hard as you say barb, and times when she doesn't and more often than not it has to do with whose playing and whose not. I think that's when people want to know who's really running this team.
  4. Greeneville plays good defense, both full court and half court with traps. Also can go man-to-man with just about anyone. Fast breaks at every opportunity. Not a great shooting team, really hasn't worked on setting up shooters from the outside. Could probably play inside/out more, but have had success either with the fast break or pounding the ball inside. The games Greeneville has lost, these options were taken away.
  5. I understand that this Friday is the deadline for acceptance of resumes at GHS for the girls coaching job. Any word as to who has officially applied? Any one know who may be at the top of the admin. list? Any comments made at the Banquet on Sunday? This job should be one of the most desired positions in the state.
  6. If Maryville is #8, then I'd say that it's about right. If you were arguing for D-B then I could see a debate from their side.
  7. If Huskey has put his name in the hat, we should have the contract in hand in Murpheysboro for him to sign Saturday after he has won his second championship.
  8. Let's hope that the School Admin. does their homework and gets a coach that this girls program and talent deserve!!! This job would be an excellent opportunity for someone who can build on the base that's there. The 7th & 8th grade class has some great talent coming into the high school over the next couple of years and a large part of the 25-5 team from this year returns. Greeneville has one Middle School feeding the High School, so a coach that will take the time to work a system starting at the 6th grade level can be very successful in the years to come as well.
  9. Greeneville High School, Greeneville, TN. Coach retiring after 30 years! Greeneville is District Tournament Champions this year with a 24-3 record, has a large part of its team back next year, and an 8th grade class coming that went 26-0 this year. I don't know your qualifications but this is an opportunity of a lifetime for someone.
  10. There's no question or dispute, it is Science Hill's gym. Someone from Science Hill tell us what year was the last year that you lost a home game at Science Hill High School??? Was it 1995, 1996 ....?
  11. I would tend to agree about the schedule strength, except that I can't figure out why Morristown West's schedule strength is higher on the coacht link than Greeneville's. When I see who they've played, it doesn't look that much stronger. Anyways, too bad Greeneville lost in the first round of the Classic, they would have played some real teams then. I think this may hurt them at Regional time.
  12. Any predictions on this key game in NE TN AAA? GHS 13-1,currently ranked 4th in Fan Poll and MWHS 10-0,currently ranked 6th.
  13. How would you know how deep Greeneville is? Totally outcoached, you could tell early in the second quarter that SH had Greeneville's number by the 4th quarter. Even 30 seconds of rest/ sit time can get fresh legs to someone having to play hard from line to line. Just doesn't make sense, but then again is Duncan ever WRONG? Can't be, just ask him.
