  1. Thank you Cheb, you said what I wanted to say but I could not get it in an understandable and none rambling way. It does apply.
  2. For marks to be left intentionally the lower set would be left as CHS said, an accidental one does leave only top teeth marks. It happens in practice alot, one little guy tries to take of someones head and next I am hearing he bit me, he bit me. I just tell them if he bit you there would be a lower and upper set of marks. It is a sad situation and sounds like a horrible call.
  3. I apologize for mentioning any names and taking away fromt his thread, I am not attempting to sling mud. I feel sorry for the kid who may miss his chance due to a bad call. It is sad to know that it is his senior year.
  4. This was 3 years ago and the guy who did it I assume is gone. He was told to come apologize to me then he had an attitude about it. I have the video, I took him down, he got up, took him down and turned him with a crossface and he started biting at the end of the 1st. It was first match of regions, the 112 lb class, a few years ago, and I in no way blame the current team for his actions. I wrestled for Alcoa and I had previously beat him and was beating him when the incident occured. I have always been a clean wrestler and no one deserves to be bit. Please don't insult me by saying I deserved it. I was just stating an incident that happened saying that intentional is obvious.
  5. Did the wrestler indicate he was bitten, or did the ref take the mohers word. I hate it for the young man, that is something that I would doubt any wrestler of his caliber would do. I have been bitten once by a Fulton kid and when it is intentional, it is obvious. I had purple blue and red marks with 4 sets of teeth imprints. refs should be able tot ell the difference. I was not there but it sounds like a tough situation. I do not know if TSSAA overturns those things or not. Keep us posted.
  6. I too dislike the double standards and like I said I do not support them , but just because we are unable to do something (volleyball) should we then disallow someone else from an oppurtunity(girls wrestling). Double standards are the sad fact of an overly PC (Politically Correct) world. Every thing is about being PC and being sensitive. I am currently doing a report on the negative effects of title IX on wrestling and male sports. I am doing this because it is a topic I care about. Some may believe that since I do not like the implementation of title IX then I must not want girls to wrestle. Here is the deal on that. Girls and Guys both got screwedby title IX. Girls did not get more sports as was hoped for, guys just got less. Fairness is a tricky issue and something hard to obtain. I hope that we can. We all have opinions we are entitled to, and I hope I have not offended anyone, I am just outspoken on what I believe, especially since I would allow girls on my AAU team but if they want to wrestle in high school then what.
  7. That is a good point about the volleyball team but Iwould expect that big bad wrestler to overpower teams he played against. I enjoyed volleyball, stunk at it, but it is fun. This is a situation where one instance does not apply to others even though they are the same, confused, I know it is. I understand the risk of a girl getting hurt, I also enddured injuries yet I am a male, it does happen. I have fractured ribs and wrestled with it and seperated my sternum twice and now I have a seperated shoulder that has ended my season this year. I have injured both elbows. These injuries are not from being dominated but from wear and tear and weird landings, mostly in practice. It is a rough sport and girls know that coming in. I understand the injury risk but that is one you must be willing to take if you participate.
  8. Seems to be a valid point, like what if a male wrestler gets cut from the team can he go compete with the female wrestlers on the female team...................... oh wait a second, THE GIRLS DON'T HAVE A TEAM. Boys have the oppurtunity to play basketball if they are good enough, so they have an oppurtunity. What if the girl is good enough to wrestle for the school, can she just go sign up with the girls wrestling team. NO. She cannot as of now join an all female wrestling team. She can join the male or coed wrestling team. It is not about being able to play and make the team or not, it is about having the option to try out for the team. I do not forsee a girls division taking off anytime soon. A girl should have to make the team like anyone else, with no exceptions. I am not advocating letting girls on the team just because they are girls and we have to to be fair. I am for letting girls onto the team if they can make it. As for the boy missing the cut and going to the girls team, that is ridiculous, he had a shot and needs to work harder for the next year. When the female wrestlers get a team then we can talk about having a second chance at making another team, but for now it is about getting the chance at all. In my opinion, the people opposed to female wrestling are not out for male equality, if we want a male volleyball team go lobby on the volleyball link, they are afraid of their kids having their feelings hurt because they get beat by an opponent who happens to be a girl. A guy on my old team lost to a girl and came back to bust his butt and get better, he showed that he was not going to let something as SILLY as losing to a girl stop him. And he got alot better. Wrestlers, quit running from matches with girls unless you lack confidence in yourself. A girl is an opponent, whoever enters that ring is you opponet. Spectators, does it really bother us that much to see a girl wrestling. Seriously, how bad is it.
  9. I graduated high school last year, so my perspective is a relativly recent one. I doubt much has changed since last year. Did I enjoy wrestling girls, no. But I also did not have a problem with it. . I would rather not be in the lose lose situation but an opponent is an opponent and I admire the girls for giving it a shot and showing that they too can compete. Sommers, it isn't imposing embarrassment on our boys, it is giving oppurtunities to the girls.
  10. Exactly, guys and girls alike love the sport and we go to matches to wrestle, no matter the opponent. We practice the same we win the same and we lose the same. A record reads wins and losses, not wins v guys and wins v girls. Spectators go to watch wrestling , not watch just guys wrestling. A girl on the team takes away from no one, not from the opponent, and not from the spectator. Grow up and enjoy wrestling, quit getting your feelings hurt and getting scared because you son or wrestler may lose to a girl.
  11. I am glad someone sees my point. Let me point it another way for some people. Wrestling is more individual, I believe the girl has to make her place on the team and not get cut, like everyone else does. I am not for special treatment, I am for equal oppurtunity. Look at it this way, a 103 lb girl or any other weight makes the team and wins her weight, she can win the 103 lb match, she cannot dominate the 112 119 125 or any other weight class. On the other hand a 6'4 guy joins volleyball, he spikes and outplays the majority of the other team by being more physically imposing and dominating. A guy goes to softball and can put them all out of the park on a mediocre pitcher, not a Britney Hollifield, but an average pitcher. Softball is less drastic than the volleyball though. One tall guy could dominate and improve a team more than one good female wrestler could. I AM NOT A FAN OF TITLE IX IT IS IMPLEMENTED WRONGLY. I cannot stress that enough. It got rid of sports rather than creating. The whole proportionality makes it tough to keep equality. I say it again, there is not enough interest as of now to create a girls division. Untill then they should have equal oppurtunity, NOT SPECIAL TREATMENT. IF THE INTEREST IS OUT THERE I SUPPORT THE IDEA AND ENCOURAGE THE IMPLEMENTATION. The McGavcock tournament is a great start, hopefully it will gain great interest and go from their.
  12. That is the point, if a wrestler is not man enough to step up and wrestle a girl then he does not know how to overcome adversity. By not allowing girls to wrestle on available teams we could eventually jepordize our own. Title IX has eliminated many sports to provide equality, I do not agree witht he way title IX has been implemented, but it may be in our best interests to accept girls on the current guys teams untill a successful girls division can be formed. Even then, what if a girl wants better comeptition, could she wrestle with the guys, that is the coaches choice. For a wrestler to get better they must wrestle better opponents. If I am not mistaken there is womens wrestling in the olympics. How could a wrestler get to that level without available girls teams. I understand that Halls had a tournament, and 4 girls came, wow, that competition must have been grueling. I agree that it was probably more fair than them having to wrestle guys that day, and I am sure they gave it their all, but imagine if they could not wrestle guys, all they would see was each other and maybe a few more over and over again throughout the year. Is there an established female team with enough competition at this point and time. If so I have not heard of it, in that case let them wrestle with the guys, if they work just as hard are than any less of a wrestler. I would venture to guess that some girls would try harder than there male counterparts to succeed in some insatnces. I would rather see a dedicated girl giving it her all than a guy going out there to play around and not wrestle. I believe that the main reason people are against it is not because of the safety of the girl but because the fear that their son or wrestler will lose to a girl and quit. Are we really that afraid of girls in our sport. If we are so dominate then why fear losing to them. Like I said before, if you lose to a girl go bust your butt and get better as you would with any opponent. I agree for a guy it is a lose lose situation. I have wrestled 5 girls on the mat, I won but did I win a huge victory, probably not, but those were 5 wins not 5 loses. Had I lost things would have been worse, but I would not of quit. So what I beat a girl, I just got the job done for the team. We need to let girls have the oppurtunity to wrestle untill they get a COMPETITIVE DIVISION for girls started. By competitive I do not mean 4 girl round robins at a tournament. They need a TSSAA sponsored division, or they should wrestle with the guys. AAU is not a school sport, it is in essence a club usually based out of a school. Girls have AAU now they need a school team. I do not see that happening so untill then girls are allowed and welcome to any team as far as I am concerned.
  13. Valid point Animal. However, the issue arises when schools can hardly fund or even support the current teams. I am for allowing girls on a team. Reason being, they will either become dedicated and keep wrestling or quit. I have wrestled girls on a few occasions and always wrestled as if they were a guy. I never considered it an easy win because you never overlook any opponent. Girls as of now do not have the opportunity to join a girl’s team at their whim. They must join wherever they are welcome. I do consider it a double standard that guys cannot be on a volleyball team. However one guy could dominate a girls volleyball team and opposing teams and it would open up the possibility of, many guys joining. In that case, it would possibly carry over to other schools and it would begin to become male oriented. I doubt that girls will come and over run wrestling teams and force the guys out. Although it is a good point, many factors such as the aforementioned come into play. It would be great to have an all girls division but there are not enough girls showing interest in wrestling to begin one. If they do then the idea should be put into action. However, as long as there are few girls wanting to wrestle then they should be allowed to wrestle with the guys. I tell the team I coach that they do not have to wrestle a girl if they do not want to. However, I tell them they need to stop being afraid because on that mat the girl is an opponent wanting to whip them. If a guy loses to a girl and quits then he did not have the fuel to wrestle in the first place. If I were to lose to a girl and would push myself and make sure it would not happen again. Not quitting is an important characteristic in wrestling and if you quit because you are wrestling a girl it is the same as quitting because it was just too much for you. A good wrestler never quits, does not fear his opponent no matter what gender, and if they get beat, they work to get better. Allow girls to wrestle, odds are they quit but the beauty of America is they get to try. If the school has a girls team then they should not be on the guys but should travel with them to get real opportunities to wrestle.
  14. That is how they will most likly place unless Blackford steps it up against shields in an impressive way. However, I would expect to see Burns from WB seeded because he mangaged to beat Blackford (Alcoa).
  15. Thats what my high school coaches said when they asked me to take over the position. Just drill them some basics and let them play takedown games and other things like it on the mat. Just get them moving and learning basics but make sure its not too hard. Nothing like high school practice. I am looking forward to this experience so it should be fun for all of us.
  16. I have wrestled for 4 1/2-5 years and I am now wrestling collegiatly. As of tonight to be exact I have taken over the coaching position of an AAU team. I have never coached before and I figured some advice from those more experienced would be very helpful. The kids are 5th-8th grade, any advice is greatly appreciated.
