  1. Nick is showing good leadership. I think the coaches were happy for the most part. We got burned a couple of times up top. Coaches were trying to play everyone, they might have scored twice on the starting DB's but it wouldn't have been as easy. The best thing about camp and the scrimmage was that no one was injured on either team.
  2. I would highly recommend that Coach Turner talk to the players and make sure the coaches are around as you exit the field at half time. Just in cast Zone Pirate needs some backup.
  3. Thanks. Please don't get me wrong. Players, coaches and MOST fans Pirate fans show class. There was about 20-30 men, not teens doing this. That could have been an ugly scene. Those fans would not yield a path to our locker room and at the same time yelling obsenities to our players. Again, I know those few do NOT represent S. Pitt's program.
  4. Sorry for all the post, but I forgot to mention that on Tuesday Aug 7th the Bucs will scrimmage Noter Dame there. We will scrimmage Silverdale Aug 10th at Boyd. We will play Cleveland and East Ridge in the Jamboree at Finley on the 17th.
  5. Amen!!! It wasn't just the schedule, it was all the injuries that went with that schedule. Not sure how we even finished the season.
  6. I think it was a tie. 2-2. Brainerd has a lot of great athelets. Both teams played well and had dinner and a devotional afterward. Good Luck to Brainerd this year in 4A.
  7. Thanks Owls. We have nothing but respect for Smith County. We've played two great games against each other the past two years. Win or lose, we know we are in for a war. You guys are a class act. We love the way your community supports your school. We also have that school pride. We hope to see you again soon. Good luck and hope SC has a great season and stays healthy.
  8. Hey BNL, great to hear from you. We play Brainerd at Ft. Bluff on Thursday 8/2. We will scrimmage Silverdale at home 8/10 Jamboree at Finley 8/17 where we play Cleveland and East Ridge.
  9. Yeah, that is why we, Boyd, spent a lot of money on legal fees to lawyers to write a brief on our support for the TSSAA in it's case against BA. By the way, Chattanooga Christian, Silverdale and Grace Christian Academy (all Chattanooga schools) joined with us to help with those cost. No other private school in Nashville, Knoxville or Memphis that we asked would join us. And we asked a lot. "Everybody Knows You Do"? You know nothing because it just aint so!!!
  10. WOW!!! If any one of those stats are correct the kid is awsome. I have the 2006 Murphy Fair book and Joseph is described as a "heat seeking missile". It said as a sophomore he had 170 tackles, 18 were behind the line of scrimmage. He was Knoxville Prep Extra's leading tackler for 2005. I would say he certainly sounds D1 material. We will play CAK this year in week 1. I look forward to seeing him play. Hope he has a great season, just not week 1.
  11. WOW!!! Zone, will you come back and be our team nutritionist? I thought you were a pretty sharp guy, but this has elevated my already good opinion of you. My son does the Whey protein. I was told by a trainer that anything over about 30 grams of protein at a time was worthless, that the body could not digest more than that at a time. He said you can pay a lot more for more grams of protein per drink, but you were just throwing away money. The past couple of years, we have used the 1850 calorie drinks and took half the dose in the morning and the other half at dinner. This will help the players maintain their weight during the season. I was told that anytime someone lost 3% of their body weight (that was in shape already) that they lost strength as well.Hope your son is healthy and doing well. Great post!!!
  12. Actually, it was during summer ball.
  13. Agreed, it happens. Enticement was he would get far more exposure playing for a large public school than playing for a small private school. His new great wonderful coach would promote him and certainly he would get him a college scholership. His family is moving to stay within the rules, so no sitting out. Plus, anyone that leaves a private school can appeal and say they had to withdraw for financial reasons and the TSSAA will allow them to play, no sitting when leaving a private to go to public. By the way, the kid is a great ball player, but an even better kid. We hope and pray he is successful. Personally, I just have a problem with another coach approaching our players, or any players from any team, to make that kind of promise.
  14. I haven't really ever read this thread much. It always makes me mad. I think you and I, and Baldcoach are on the same page. I KNOW for a fact that one of our baseball players was RECRUITED away from us by a public school. The kid started with us in Kindergarten and will not be back his senior year, because of a PUBLIC schools successful recruiting efforts. This was happening while we were spending our schools money supporting the TSSAA against the BA issue. Baldcoach is a great guy with integrity. He definately stands against recruiting. I think this is just a sore subject with us because we are accused constantly of recruiting, simply because we are a private school. I know Baldcoach knows we quit playing a couple of schools locally because they would come on to the field and attempt to Recruit our players after a game. As a CHRISTIAN school, we play by the rules and will not tolerate anything that even gives the apprearance of recruiting by anyone associated with our school. But some people will go so far to say that running an ad in the paper to attract STUDENTS for our kindergarden is recruiting. I know Baldcoach, he is a good friend of mine and we go way, way back. I think I speak for him when I say that YES, we know recruiting happens. We have always been on the losing end of it because other schools, private and public do it to us. We stand firmly with the TSSAA regarding the recruiting rules. We don't do it, never have. It has been done to us though, so YES, it happens.
  15. Our prayers are with you Riverdale. Our hearts are sad, but we must all remember now that Jordan will now be comforted in the loving arms of Jesus our Savior. Your Brothers at Boyd Buchanan are praying for the family and friends of this wonderful young man. May God bless you all.
  16. I hardly ever post on this Board and this will probably be the last time. Baldcoach is passionate about the school he coaches for because he and our other coaches know the rules and go the extra mile to do things right. For everyone on this Board discussing Public-Private debate should know. Boyd Buchanan, Chattanooga Christian, Silverdal Baptist and Grace Christian Academy of Chattanooga stood alone and spent our money to defend the TSSAA in the case against Brentwood Academy. NO PRIVATE school from Nashville, Knoxville, or Memphis stood with us. We are ADAMATELY opposed to schools RECRUITING athletes from another school. And YES it has happened to us! I know of NO athlete any coach in our schools history that was approached by a coach, Alumni, Booster club or dog catcher to come play a sport for us. I do know of Private schools in this area (Chattanooga) and local public schools in this area that have approached our students and have RECRUITED them away from us to play sports. Boyd Buchanan is fully, totally and emphatically against this. We spent OUR MONEY to stand behind the TSSAA to support them because we to are faced with the SAME issues some of you are saying you are. I think it is unfair to LUMP ALL PRIVATE schools in with Brentwood (and others, private and YES PUBLIC also) on recruiting. Balcoach...you are too good of a coach and role model to our kids to spend your time on here talking to these people who will never believe you no matter what you say. We will KEEP doing the right things and people can think whatever they want.
  17. I think Coach Reynolds did a great job with the schedule this year. We play some great teams this year. We feel honored to be in the region we are in. Marion County, (great tradition and one of the most successful teams the state has ever had), Bledsoe County who always has great athlets and plays very physical. Sequatchie county, also historically a great program. What can you say about Tyner. Great coaches, players, fans...they can line up with anyone on any given Friday night. Year in and year out, it is a tough region to be in, so we are honored to be a part of so many great teams. The non region games is where we got into trouble the past two years. It is just hard to play teams 3 to five times your size week in and week out. Our players were so beaten up every week it was hard to even prepare effectively for our region opponents. Coach Reynolds inherited the old schedule and we all paid for someone else's ego. I think coach Reynolds has scheduled a season of very good teams for us to play. CAK is always a great team. We used to play Meigs many years ago and I don't think we've ever beaten them. They raise some big boys up there. I don't know a lot about Loudon, I don't think we've ever played them, but their schedule and teams they play tells me they will be a hand full. The Pirates of South Pitt are one of our longest and best rivalries. They have a great program. (Sometimes there fans get carried away) I was very disappointed last year when they had fans standing by our locker room going in at half time that were cusing our players and trying to start fights. That won't be allowed at our facility. But their players and coaches are a class act. We play Red Bank again, which size of school and athlets will be our toughest game. I think it is our homecoming. For some reason, we have always scheduled some of our toughest games for that event. The Lions are always loaded with many large, fast athletic players. They had an awsome team last year and was leading Maryville in the playoffs early in the game. I felt like we played them pretty well for 3 quarters and then we just simply got over run. Everything considered, we still have a tough schedule, but one that schools will be our size or only twice our size most of the time, so it should be much more competitive for us. As far as repeating as region champs. We will work hard and do all we can to make that happen. I think Tyner lost a lot of great 4 year starters, but we find little comfort in that because Coach Turner always finds a way to compete and put his team in a position to win. I think they went 41 region games without a loss untill last year. Let's face it, until you do what Tyner has done, we are all just want to be's. Make no mistake, we will go to their place the last game of the season prepared for a war.. I know they want to return the favor. One team I personally am worried about in the region is Marion. The QB is very, very good. I think they have a lot of returning starters. They will be dangerous this year and not to be overlooked. Sequatchie has matured a lot and will return many starters. They've had a couple of bad seasons, but we all know the support from their community is strong and they will also be a force to be dealt with. I see NO clear cut favorite this year in our region, it should be one of the most competitive years of football ever.
  18. How are you reaction? We need to hook up and give coach Fant some pointers. He has forgotten more about FB than I will ever know. Look me up next time your on campus, I'll probably be there. Sometimes I think I live there.
  19. Staff- Coach Darrel Caldwell. Lineman for the Bill and Jets. He played with OJ. His son Devin will be a sophmore.
  20. We had several that are playing baseball and soccer, so they did not participate. Backup QB is probably Cody Thomas, he will be a senior. He is our best TE on offence, but is very athletic. He could start about anywhere. The intersquad game was Friday....we won!!!
  21. We will be bigger on the O-line, also a lot more experience. You know the QB personally. He is young but doesn't get rattled easily. He will have a solid line in front of him, so he will have time to get the job done. He made some big plays for us last year as a sophmore. We need for some of these receivers to step up about 3 notches. It is hard to replace Headon and Darius. RBs will be fine, but again, how do you replace Hathaway or before him, Peardon? The D-Line could start 4 Sr's, with a couple of big Jr's giving them some rest when needed. LB's are in good shape also. We will have to develop Db's and corners, but have some good prospects. In short it looks like we have some good options for the holes we have to fill. The coaching staff has also been strengthened with a couple of nice additions.
  22. Yes, the joke was our half times were always one hour long while we waited on the homecoming court to finish. I know SP has a lot coming back. I think you will easily go deep into the playoffs if not take it all. Marion's tam last year was pretty good also. I think they also have a lot of returners, but I'm not sure. What is the inside scoop?
  23. Thanks, and good luck to the Owls. I think this will be a good future rivalry. SC has a great program and very well coached. I think it is our turn to come up there and win by 7 this year, right?
  24. Good to hear from you ZP. Our rivalry with South Pitt goes back to the late 1970's. It wasn't much of a rivalry then, the Pirates barely knew they had played after they were through with us. We probably played 20 times before we got our first win against you. We have always respected the South Pitt program. You always have great athelets and coaching. The rivalry has elevated both our schools desire to be better. I hope you like the new fence we put up in the outfield. We finally got the dimensions much more in line with a real baseball field. We had a Coke sale as a fundraiser to help pay for it. Our HS team plays out of town Tuesday, so I won't see you. Hope all goes well and both teams play to the best of their ability.
