This may not be the place for a post like this, but I witnessed some behavior at a district game tonight that embarrassed me as a parent. I won't mention the game or the team because I have seen instances similar at several games this year. I am accustomed to seeing the boy's teams rooting their girl's team on, and some of the inappropriate comments made about opposing teams. I have even grown accustomed to those that feel that they can referee a game better from the stands than those on the field. Tonight I witnessed an adult female fan curse out an opposing keeper FROM THE SIDELINES at the end of the contest. She was wearing the school sweatshirt of the winning team. While I know that it takes all kinds to make the world go around, I think the responsible adults should say something to those that get out of control. I am thankful that I do not have a younger child that I have to explain those words or behavior to. It is not respectful of the players, fans, or the game.
No excuses about the game. We were beaten by a more talented team. They could probably play 5 more times and the result would be the same. I do have a problem with behavior that borders on a personal attack of a 16,17, or 18 year old girl. Root for your team, celebrate when they win, cry when they lose, but keep it in perspective. Be the adult. Thanks for the opportunity to vent.
