  1. Pigeon Forge should join SG, EHS and Unicoi in the regional semi-finals, and those games would be a tossup as well. Im not looking beyond the District. There will be some upsets across the state this week in the District quarterfinals, and Unicoi and EHS better bring it tonight or their season will be over. Johnson County gave EHS a fit in this game last year.
  2. Old Eagle, its not really my fight, but I did notice in the box score that Brittany Scott wasnt listed for Unaka. Did she play? Her absence would make a huge difference. And why no talk of Unicoi's win over Cloudland? Seems the Seven standings are on their head at the end of the regular season!
  3. I wouldnt be so sure buggin. EHS had SG beat at SG 10 days ago and beat them at EHS. EHS beat Unicoi two weeks ago and the big loss at Unicoi was in early December. I definitely think SG makes it to the District final but I would rate the Unicoi-EHS semifinal a toss-up. Of course both Unicoi and EHS have to get by Johnson County and Chuckey-Doak while SG basically has a bye in North. Good luck to all District 1 teams.
  4. You know acdc is right. The kid, Jake Hodge, made an outstanding play which should not be diminished. He won the game with a sportscenter type shot. The clock operator issue has been brewing on warrior hill for quite some time, as a number of people on here have confirmed. Who knows how much time should have been on the clock? Nobody. It was that screwy all night long, all the way up to the end. I personally do not think HV got its TO called before the clock went to 0.0. But the officials ruled they had and put 0.6 on the clock and Jake Hodge made the most of it. Great job by that young man. I still cannot understand why EHS didnt have someone on the ball on the throw in. Seemed they were all standing around, afraid to foul. Oh well, its been a disappointing year for the EHS boys team, and the ending to this game cements that fact even further.
  5. I really don't think EHS "held" back. The only way EHS and HV meet again is in the district consolation game (I dont see HV beating SG) and I dont think coach Dugger was thinking about that as he coached friday night. EHS has played alot of zone lately with success (SG and Unicoi games). HV wanted the game more and went out and got it. Perhaps EHS is still struggling to get over the SG game. In response to coachh17's last post, Anderson did not play; Jefferson played about a quarter, with about 6 min of that being when MP sat out in the second qtr with 2 fouls---Im not sure JJ took a shot; Bowling played about a qtr as well, and maybe took one shot; Powell played about 5-6 minutes and didnt take a shot. Mariah didnt get enough shots. There were three or four players on the team with more FG attempts than her. She was 5-5 on FGs and 7-8 on FTs. However, the reason was HV's defense denied EHS the entry pass to MP. Ward worked really hard on defense staying in between MP and the ball. EHS probably should have tried the lob pass more.
  6. At Happy Valley you sure can Fred!!! It was a great shot either way.
  7. The video just confirms the clock didnt start on time. Put a stopwatch on it. He catches, takes a step and shoots in 0.6 seconds. I dont think so.
  8. Look at the video Fred has linked and judge for yourself. TSSAA should have a rule that a player's parent cannot keep the offical book or clock. How hard is that?
  9. Elizabethton simply did not get out on Banks on the perimeter, until it was too late. She hit 5 3's including at least 2 during the spurt in the third quarter that allowed HV to open up a double digit lead. EHS was in a zone and just didnt get out on her. She and Bowling did dribble penetrate the zone several times, and got to the FT line, but the open looks from outside were the key in my opinion. EHS did not get the ball inside enough. Mariah made something happen every time she touched it, either scoring or getting fouled. To HV's credit they worked hard at denying her the ball. HV played with more emotion and intensity and deserved to win. EHS better regroup quickly. I am told that EHS will play Johnson County on thursday. The coin flip tiebreaker doesnt come into play as EHS's win over SG gives them the 2 seed over Unicoi.
  10. South Greene clinches a tie for the Watauga conference title last night with a 49-44 win at Unicoi. They win it outright with a win at home friday against Johnson County. No matter what happens friday, SG is the top seed, which sets up a Unicoi-EHS rematch in the District semi's at Boone probably a week from monday. Krich Unaka and Cloudland will play two more times with the last one being the one that people will remember!
  11. To be quite honest EHS snatched defeat from the jaws of victory last night at SG. Up 6 with under 30 seconds to go, EHS missed some FTs, turned the ball over, and made a bad foul at the end... and SG took full advantage. EHS was 4-9 in FTs in the last minute of regulation. The foul at the end was the clincher. In OT, SG got the ball and hit a 3, EHS hit a 2, SG hit another 3, and EHS hit a 2.....all in the first minute of OT. Then SG holds the ball against EHS's zone and while EHS tried to trap, SG took care of the ball, as the clock went under a minute. SG gets fouled and misses the front end, so EHS has the ball down 2 with about 40 seconds to go, but SG steals the ball and EHS is forced to foul, and this time SG hits both with under 15 seconds to go for the final tally. Just a heartbreaking loss for EHS. But one they can and should learn from. They played SG off their feet in their own gym for 31 1/2 minutes. Come tournament time you must close out games like this. That is the bright side. Its not tournament time.
  12. South Greene is one of three District One teams that are good, very good, this year. Big game tommorrow night in Del Rio when Elizabethton attempts to pretty much wrap up the number one seed in D1. If South Greene wins then they control their own destiny and can wrap up the D1 top seed with a win at Unicoi next week. Regional semifinals will likely be as you have predicted.....EHS, SG, Unicoi from D1 and Pigeon Forge from D2.
  13. Lady Cyclones over the Blue Devils in a thriller at EHS 49-48. Unicoi led most of the way, with EHS's press helping to erase Unicoi's 8-9 point lead and set the stage for a wild finish. Both teams missed FTs late, and Unicoi had 2-3 shots at the end to win. Mariah got into early foul trouble but was there at the end, making the winning FTs, and big shots down the stretch and finishing with 14. Kelli Culler shot lights out, hitting a big 3 late, and also finished with 14. Mainer played well for the devils and had close to 20. A typical heavyweight fight between these two rivals. These teams will likely play at least one and probably two more times before its all said and done. Good job Orange and Black.
  14. It is my understanding that Hannah Fritz will play tonight, wearing a protective facemask to protect her broken nose (that was "set" last friday). EHS usually plays well at home. I agree with coachh17's assesment of the game, but I bet EHS plays more zone tonight. They played mostly man at Unicoi, and we all know what the result was there.
  15. Both Devil post players, Dickson and Collins had four fouls each last night. Dickson is a very very talented player that will continue to get better as she learns to play hard all the time.
  16. Coach C rallied her troops tonight in E-town as the Devils beat the Lady Cyclones by 14, 52-38. It amazes me how a few big mouths can seem like a lot more hot air than they actually are. She has done a great job at G-ville. Good luck Greenies the rest of the way.
  17. Greeneville beat EHS tonight by 14, 52-38. This game shouldnt impact the tricounty 7 as G-ville would likely beat any of the 7 by double digits as well. EHS kept it interesting until the last couple minutes. They need to keep their focus as they travel to Mosheim tommorrow to face West Greene. West Greene is a dangerous team on their home floor, their recent loss to the Longhorns notwithstanding. My seven rankings are the same as Krich. I still would have Cloudland 1 based on their body of work thus far this year. HV is fading like a cheap T shirt. Unaka is rising like a cathead biscuit. Dang Im talking like Tim Chambers. Just shoot me now...........
  18. GreenevilleOblivious: You have earned your name, as there is no question that you are "Oblivious" to the truth. To take shots at G-ville's coaching staff/team in light of their track record the last few years is asinine. Pure bull. Some people have to have something to complain about to justify their existence.............go figure. Oblivious is obviously a member of the "Legions of the Miserable" club....... EHS has a chance to beat G-ville if we play a near perfect game.
  19. Good game monday in Elizabethton as Greeneville comes to town. Girls game starts at 6. With Mo-West knocking off the Devils last night, it should give EHS some confidence they can take the devils down. Highlander, according to the JC Press, Unaka 41-31 over UH. C-D gave EHS all they wanted last night; it was a one point game heading into the fourth quarter with EHS winning by 8, 61-53.
  20. Interesting matchup monday night in E-Town as the Devils and Cyclones square off. How will the Devils respond to their first loss this year to an upper ET team? Is EHS ready to avenge the early season blow out like the 05 team did? Did Mo-West really do anyone a favor here, or did they just awake a sleeping giant?
  21. No surprise to me, Unaka'a upset over Cloudland. When its all said and done, there isnt much difference in these two teams, and I look for both to play in sectional games in early March. coachh17: Nice post about the 05 EHS team. About 6 or 7 of that team, including three of the posts mentioned might be seen on the same intramural BB team at ETSU this semester. Rikki is a little busy and can't make it! What a season she is having this year at Milligan. Game winner last night.
  22. Cyclones win 51-43. HV led 12-8 when EHS went on a 15-0 run in the second quarter to take control. HV closed to within two in the third, and to within 4 in the fourth, but EHS answered. Jasmine Jefferson turned an ankle in practice yesterday and didnt play. Pietrowski had 15, Culler 13 and Fritz and Treadway 9 each. For HV, Hannah Banks hit 3 3's in the second half to keep HV in shouting distance; and I think Byars hit at least 2. HV was tired, and it showed. They didnt press alot and when they did it was not as spirited as usual, and the Cyclones got some easy buckets on it. Physical game with lots of jump balls but I didnt see anything out of line on either side. Coach Dugger should send Coach Chambers a thank you card as there is no question that HV didnt quite have their legs tonight. Good win for the lady cyclones.
  23. coachh17, the answer is simple. It is done to attempt to intimidate the other team, and thus gain a competitive advantage. To win at all costs. In their mentality, it means leaving it all on the court. Whatever you can get away with. In my opinion, never having coached, but having watched many games at many levels, the fine line between playing "tough" and playing "dirty" is a direct reflection of how the kids have been coached through the years. I guess in that way, it is somewhat of a cultural/community thing, especially if its a winning program. And therein lies the rub: if its a winning program then it must be working.
  24. The Lady Cyclones probably played their most complete game of the year in beating SG last night. Total team effort. Officiating was horrible---both ways. SG seemed confused on how to attack the Cyclone zone defense and had SG not hit some timely 3's or EHS made their FTs, the game wouldnt have been close. Of course SG missed some chippies as well. Mariah Pietrowski scored 13 points in less than 12 minutes of action. SG had no answer for her. If she can stay in the game when they play in Del Rio, EHS may sweep the Rebels. I wouldnt have entertained that thought a couple weeks ago, but after watching the effort last night, its do-able. Great job by the seniors, particularly Fritz, who played a complete game on both ends.
  25. If that happened tonight, Her arse should be history, now. If 1/2 of whats been posted on here for the last month has an element of truth in it, this lady should be run out of town on a rail. Where are the leaders in Claiborne County?? Who's Zooming Who?
