  1. http://www.johnsoncitypress.com/Sports/ ... p?ID=72442 Cyclones make Roadrunners look like Wile E Coyote!!! GO Cyclones!!!!
  2. Dye was named player of the year. From SG, Casteel, Hicks and Crum were all conference. From EHS, it was Pietrowski, Jefferson and Powell. I think the STAR had the entire team listed in the paper a week or so ago. Greeneville paper has the ones from Greene County. http://greenevillesun.com/story/302236
  3. Great Job Lady Cyclones!! Good news travels fast. I heard the yells 2000 miles away. Yea Mon. No problem. I bet ole 'Write Stuff' is walking about four feet off the ground today!!! So happy for the seniors, Mariah and Arin. Enjoy the experience. EHS vs SG in the final. I be back for that one!
  4. Congrats to both SG and EHS. It was the Lady Cyclones' turn. Gutsy win by the orange and black. Neither team has a bargain saturday night as both Gibbs and Seymour are very good teams. Seymour knows how to get to the Boro, and Gibbs has a veteran team who knows how to win on the road (at Loudon in the regional quarters and at Fulton in the regional semis). If both teams play like they did last night, I see District 1AA with two teams in Murfreesboro.
  5. One thing is certain, SG will have a 'run'. They key for EHS is limiting that run to 6 or 8 points; rather than double digits. If EHS can weather the inevitable SG run, they will win the game. I look for the officials to let them play. Lets face it, a foul could be called on every single possession, on both sides. As long as it stays "clean", let em play ball. The block/charge calls will be huge though. This is one year where the loser of this game has a very decent shot at winning on the road since it doesnt go through Austin East (first time in many years). While Gibbs and Seymour have very good teams, winning at either one is do-able by either SG or EHS. Should be a great game tonight. EHS has brought home the last two regional championships from Chuckey Doak Middle School so I like our chances for a three-peat tonight. Go Orange and Black!!!
  6. coachh17, from what I gather PF plays a pressure defense, and attempts to wear teams down by the fourth quarter. Apparently thats what happened to CD friday night. They also appear to be a team that takes care of the ball. Only AA team to beat them this year is Seymour. Attached are a couple recent articles on them. Go Cyclones! http://mountainpress.southernheadlines.com...amp;story=12265 http://mountainpress.southernheadlines.com...amp;story=11876 http://www.knoxnews.com/news/2009/feb/23/p...rge-wins-title/
  7. What type of game does Grainger play? Fast paced or half court? Man or zone on D? Press? I know they have some size; How do you see the matchup with 6-2 Pietrowski. Elizabethton usually only plays 7 unless there is foul trouble. How many are in Grainger's usual rotation? This is EHS's first home regional game since TSSAA went to the current setup three years ago. The last two years we had to win on the road in the quarters (at Gatlinburg in 07 and at Claiborne last year). Should be a big crowd on hand friday night for this one. Will Grainger bring a good following of fans? There is plenty of seats in Treadway gym. Fill er Up. Go Cyclones.

  10. krich and coachh17: As my feeble mind recalls here is the Lady Cyclone run: 2008 Regular season 2nd; 3rd place district tourney; Regional Champions; Lost home substate to Stone. 2007 Regular season cochamps with SG; 3rd place district tourney; Regional Champions; Lost home substate to Stone. 2006 Regular season champs(undefeated); District Champs; Lost in Regional semis in OT to that darn Radar (GP) in Maynardville 2005 Regular season champs; District Champs; Regional Champs; Substate winner; Lost in state qtrs to eventual state champion Chester Co led by current Ole Miss star Bianca Thomas. 2004 Regular season 2nd; District Champs; Regional Champs; Lost home substate by 2 to Oliver Springs led by Laura Hall. 2003 Regular season 2nd; District runnerup; Regional runnerup. Lost road substate game to Austin East. 2002 Regular season 3rd; District runnerup; Regional semifinalist, lost to SG. 2009: Regular season 2nd; District runner up; Regional______________!!!
  11. Elizabethton had SG on the ropes in regulation but just could not knock down the free throws. EHS missed 9 of 10 FTs in the last minute of regulation, allowing SG to hang around long enough to get the game to OT. EHS led by five at the half, 25-20, I think. SG came out hard in the third, and forged a lead heading into the fourth. EHS fought back and had a 5 point lead inside the last minute of regulation. That last minute must have took 20 minutes to play. Both teams left it all on the floor. Refs were controversial, but to be fair, they had a hard job tonight. Very physical play on both sides. A technical on a SG player gave EHS a chance to retake the lead at the foul line with 15 seconds to play. EHS missed but still had possession, and Jefferson got fouled on a shot attempt with 5 seconds left, but missed both FTs. SG didnt get a shot off so OT here we come, tied at 55. In OT SG took control early and never let up. Fouls played a huge role. Pietrowski fouled out in regulation. Before it was over four of the lady cyclones six starters (I consider Bowling a starter) exited via fouls (Powell, Fritz, Bowling and Mariah). Dye for SG must have scored 30 points. A bright spot for the Lady Cyclones' was sophomore Erin Kiser who had a career night with about 18 points. EHS is getting closer to SG. I hope these two get a rematch next week with a home substate game on the line. For the Cyclone faithful, this game would hurt alot more if it was a season ender. But its not. Im confident the Clones will learn from this near-win experience and draw on it next week. I'd say Len will have them shooting some extra FTs at the end of practice this week. Outstanding effort by both teams. Go Cyclones!
  12. For Elizabethton to win, Powell must stay out of foul trouble. EHS needs her on the court to help handle the SG press. SG needs Dye to stay out of foul trouble for them to win. If EHS can keep this a half court type game, they win. If its a run and gun affair, that favors SG. While tonights game is big......its for a District title; next weeks likely Regional championship game is bigger. Good luck Lady Cyclones.
  13. With regard to the Devil-Cyclone game monday-----There is another big advantage the 2 seed will have over the 3 seed (other than the momentum a big win gives going into the district and any perceived advantage in playing West Greene instead of Johnson County), and that is this: The 2 seed will play their quarterfinal game next wednesday. The 3 seed will play their game friday night. The semifinal games are saturday. What coach wouldnt rather play Wed-Sat than Fri-Sat? This schedule is due to the TSSAA's rule that you cannot play more than two games on a school night.
  14. Right On coach17. I can still see that slingshot 3 in Sullivan North's gym. I had forgotten that Brandy was a hurler as well. Hope to be able to make senior night against the Warriors tommorrow.
  15. Hey Professor17, who was the left handed point guard for EHS that slung that 3 in at the buzzer in the 02 District Championship game against Hampton to send it into overtime? Krich, I need for you to confirm what your football nickname was in "your" day as a standout running back for the Rangers way back then. DevilDad: I need for you to continue to practice posting without YELLING. I know you can do it. Your last post proves you know how to disable the "caps lock" button. LadyRebelFan: If anyone has reason to strut their stuff on here its you guys. Your fans actually know what it feels like to win a state championship. Or two; or three. or four. Only team from these parts in girls BB that can say that once, much less twice or.......... Keep posting. This is the last year for awhile that you guys and Unicoi and EHS will be doing battle in the conference. As much as we clone fans have raised cane about your gym, the officials, and alot of other things, I must say its the best away venue to play in; especially if you can get outta there with a win (which EHS has done at least once). Lady Dog and Lander fans: I still say you all end up in substate games. Leon has molded this Dog team in his image, and if they can stay half way healthy, they are a lock for a substate berth. The Lady Lander seniors have been groomed for this moment, and I think they get the other sectional berth with North Greene the odd team out. Lady Rangers could play spoiler. Good luck to all Seven Team, but especially GO CYCLONES.
  16. Krich, I could be wrong but I think that team, 2001-02 (Beth's senior year/Rikki's freshman year), won 18 games. I believe they lost in the District championship game, to Hampton, and in the Regional semifinals to South Greene. Both were close games as I recall. In fact I think the Hampton game was sent into OT by a long 3 from EHS's left handed point guard.
  17. Is it any wonder that coachh17 was one heck of a history/social studies teacher......... Good players make good coaches and good coaches make good players. The Lady Cyclones have been fortunate to have both during this eight year run, which really started when Rikki and Val entered 9th grade. With the young talent already on the roster, and wealth of good players at TAD, I see this run continuing into the next decade.
  18. when do the Lady Cyclones and Devils play their makeup game? That game looks to be a prelude to the District and perhaps Regional semi-final rematch games. Deja Vu all over again. Congrats to the Clones for their 20th win this season. Thats what, seven 20 win seasons in a row coachh17?
  19. I agree with coachh17. Big surprise there eh? 1. Unicoi--not much dispute about it, yet. Young players have stepped up; Gardner has been a force. 2. EHS-wins head to head with the Landers. 3. Cloudland-can they dominate their conference, given their rivals injuries? 4. Happy Valley-can they consistently play to their potential? 5. Hampton-injuries have hurt their season. Can they overcome them? We shall see. 6. Unaka-same story as Hampton, plus they had a coaching change in September. 7. Johnson County-not as far out of the top four as usual. One word about this years teams in the Tri County 7, and Upper East TN in general. Parity. On any given night............
  20. Sounds like EHS's team is experiencing some 'growing pains', which is to be expected. Replacing four senior starters takes time. The talent is there. Today's Greeneville Sun article tells you all you need to know about this game. The box score is particularly telling. Guards took 39 shots; posts 18. EHS must be more patient on the offensive end against zone or sagging man D's, and get their posts more touches and shots. Mariah shot over 60% from the field but only took 8 shots. FT shooting (53%) must also improve. Good thing is those are all correctible. http://greenevillesun.com/story/299860#AddPhotos Unicoi is the surprise so far. Those young players are playing like veterans. Hampton has been bitten by the two headed injury bug. Any word on how long Weddle and the other girl will be out?
  21. I'm gonna hold my first poll until I see what happens this weekend in the HOF games. 1 vs 2 tommorrow at 4 pm at Daniel Boone. Coachh17, any word on when Bowling will be back for the Clones? Krich, has Byars injury been confirmed yet? Saw where South Greene beat Greeneville by one in a HOF game last night.
  22. Who is in the Volunteer Christmas tournament? I just saw the Lady Cyclones schedule and saw we were in it. Since we already play Volunteer and Boone at the Happy Valley tournament, and play Crockett and North twice in-season, I hope Elizabethton can draw a different opening round foe.
  23. Just checking in and wanted to join the discussion. First, what happened to Edwards at Unicoi? Where did she transfer? (Please tell me it wasnt South Greene!) Second, this is the last year of District 1 AA as we know it. The reclassification shakeup will likely put Greeneville in District 1AA and we will lose South Greene and West Greene. Does anybody have any opinions on this and how it will impact the Region 1 makeup? Third, South Greene has to be the favorite in District 1AA with Elizabethton a close second. South Greene will struggle to contain EHS's inside game. Nobody in D1AA has a player that can matchup with Mariah. The key for EHS will be the development of the young guards, and how they handle the full court pressure that teams are going to bring against EHS, as teams will NOT want to get into a half court game with EHS. Happy Valley would be my third pick in D1AA, with Unicoi fourth, and C-D the darkhorse. Due to coaching and the seasoning of their youth, look for Unicoi and EHS to make the most improvement during the season, and both end up in regional semifinal games just like years past. Of course, South Greene will also be there in the regional semis. Anybody know the teams/game schedule for the Happy Valley Thanksgiving tourney? What about upcoming HOF games for District 1AA teams?
  24. CAK is not their usual powerhouse self. EHS has a chance this year to advance beyond the sectional round. EHS plays at Pigeon Forge tommorrow. PF beat UH 3-0.
