  1. Betsy is struggling to find its identity. Like alot of teams they are battling illnesses too. Kelli Culler had the game of her life last night, going 5-6 from three point land, and finishing with 19. The post duo of Jefferson-Pietrowski combined for 21 points. The rest of the team combined for 3 points. In her defense, Jasmine Treadway has been sick and did not play against Crockett and only played sparingly against Boone, and did not score. Hannah Fritz, except for the Johnson County game where she hit 4-4 on 3's, has been struggling with her shot all season. None of this is intended to take anything away from Boone. They are a very well coached team and made the plays necessary to win the game. Perhaps the 11 day layoff after tonights game will be good for EHS. It better be as they jump into the frying pan on January 4 with South Greene coming to town. Good luck to Boone tonight against Mo-East. This will be a good game to judge where Boone is in relation to D-2AAA.
  2. What was volunteer thinking when they paired South and Mo-East in the first round? It severely waters down their tourney by doing so. South and East should be meeting in the semis. The loser in the first round will mop the floor with North, and then likely do the same with Crockett. The EHS-Boone loser will get the falcons instead of the South-East loser. Had Volunteer bracketed it correctly, they still would have won a game against North; only it would have been in the loser's bracket. Or they could have played Gate City in the first round and fed North to Boone! Well at least they get to say they made the semi-finals of their tournament. Big deal. Now watch North go out and upset Volunteer , or Crockett upset EHS. I will eat crow if either happens, as long as its fried.
  3. Krich, what happened in the HV-Unaka game is exactly why EHS's last two coaches werent anxious to schedule any more games with county teams. There are enough opportunities for injury in the normal flow of the game without any extracurricular effort. And Im not saying who's at fault here,-- nobody/no team is. It almost always is two-sided. With conference games, teams know they have to play their rivals two, three or even four times a year, and emotions/reactions are easier to keep in check. However, in these inter-county/non-conference rivialry games only pride and bragging rights are at stake and emotions can and do get out of hand. You need the best ref's available in these type games. Glad to hear that nobody was seriously injured last night. Anyway, I will get off my soapbox now...... Cloudland and Unicoi are heading into Christmas break the clear leaders of the tri-county 7. I would bracket EHS and Happy Valley at 3. Unaka is 5. And is Johnson County really now 6 and the Dogs 7---well head to head last night sure says so!! I heard that Johnson County made everything they looked at last night, and Hampton's coach is a little upset to say the least. Merry Christmas to All.
  4. From what I heard EHS's shots just werent falling last night and Im sure Unicoi's defense had something to do with that. Even so the 22 point margin of victory is surprising. Hats off to Unicoi. EHS needs a win, after losing their last 3, and should get one friday night in Mtn City. Then back in the frying pan next week with a road game at Greeneville. The bright spot for EHS last night was Jasmine Jefferson. The sophomore keeps improving. The season is young yet. I understand that EHS gets Crockett in the first round of the Volunteer tournament, with Daniel Boone the likely opponent in the semi's as they should beat Gate City. The other bracket has Mo-East and South as the likey semi teams.
  5. Cloudland and Elizabethton have both played in the Happy Valley Thanksgiving tournament for the last five years at least. Seems they could be paired there quite easily. EHS Coaches Dugger and Street played for carter county high schools so I wouldnt think they would hesitate to schedule Unaka or Cloudland.
  6. A slight correction acdcfan. In the 2004-2005 season, Elizabethton and Cloudland played each other. In the 2004 Happy Valley tournament the Lady Cyclones beat the Lady Highlanders by 42 points, 68-26. I don't think EHS schedules away from Cloudland and Unaka. Its a matter of numbers. EHS does not play a creampuff out of conference schedule----in addtion to the tournaments at HV, Bristol and Volunteer, they play Greeneville twice, and Hampton twice. With the new TSSAA regs there's not as much room for extra nonconference games. EHS only has 4 this year in addition to the tournament games.
  7. If EHS can play Unicoi even in the paint, I like EHS's chances. Unicoi has Barnett, but beyond Paige their guard play is pretty much untested in a big-stage role; on the other hand EHS has four battle tested seniors at guard/wing, and two very good freshmen. It will be a war inside, as always. Should be very interesting to see how Mainer performs against little Pet'. Big Pet' pretty much had Alisha's number for three years. Im like coachh17, till someone knocks us down, we ride shotgun. I won't discuss turnovers yet. Still seeing 31 vs Stone and there's too many bridges in Carter County...
  8. Hey buggin, you sure have gained alot of knowledge about SG since you were the same poster that was asking on here a few weeks ago what kind of team South Greene has? October 25,2007 buggin10 wrote: "Anybody know how South Greene will look this season" South Greene will still have to go through Elizabethton and Unicoi, and the best that D2AA has to offer to even think about playing AE again, or Stone Memorial or Loudon............. Chickens don't hatch in November; they hatch in late february and early march..........
  9. AE by a dozen, or more. I admire SG for scheduling this game; no better early season test to see where you stand in Region 1-2.
  10. Voice, from summer camp reports I knew the two lady cyclone freshmen would be hard to keep off the court. Its a good mix of youth and experience for EHS this year. As coachh17 has already said, the road to the conference championship still goes through Elizabethton. Next game I understand is in the HV tourney next wednesday at 7 against Morristown West.
  11. Let the season begin! Tonight at Viking Hall Tennessee High edged the Lady Cyclones 54-53 in a thriller. THS held a 7 point lead in the fourth only to see EHS go on a run to go up by 5. Nip and tuck after that to the end. Montgomery led all scorers with 25. EHS was led by Mariah's 12 points and 23 rebounds; the double Jasmine's (Treadway and Jefferson) also had 12 points apiece. Good game to build on for the Clones.
  12. Tennessee High edged the Lady Cyclones tonight by 1 in a Hall of Fame game at Viking Hall. Montgomery led the way with 25. Mariah Pietrowski had 12 pts and 23 rebounds for EHS.
  13. I didnt see the scrimmage but here's what I heard: SH and EHS were tied at the half; SH got a lead in the third, and ended up pulling away in the fourth. I am told that Douglas and Good played very well for SH, and that SH as a team shot lights out in the second half. This was SH's second scrimmage of the day, as they blasted Happy Valley earlier. The younger Menner girl is not playing for SH. I would have thought she was the starting point guard as a senior. EHS plays Tennessee High in a Hall of Fame game at Viking Hall wednesday.
  14. Now come on coachh17, you are part of that history! But since you asked, the "run" is as follows: 2006-2007: Conference regular season co-champs with South Greene (1 loss each); Region 1 champs; 2005-2006: Undefeated conference champs; District 1 champs 2004-2005: Undefeated conference champs; District 1 champs; Region 1 champs; State tournament appearance 2003-2004 District 1 champs; Region 1 champs In 2002-2003 the Lady Cyclones were second fiddle to Unicoi finishing runnerup to UC in the regular season, district and region. The Lady Cyclones have made the substate 4 of the last 5 years. This years' EHS team will be talented and deep. A good blend of youth and experience. Just like South Greene and Unicoi. I see a three-way dogfight between them with Happy Valley as the darkhorse.
  15. In a scrimmage last night the Lady Cyclones beat the Lady Indians of DB by a pretty good margin. Mariah Pietrowksi dominated inside.
  16. I suspect you already know buggin, but here goes: South Greene graduated one starter and I understand has some good new talent coming in, so they will be one of the co-favorites in District 1AA this year. They will be small but quick, and as usual, very aggressive. Who took over as coach? I was hearing that Larry Ricker's brother was in line for the job and that Larry was going to help out. Anybody know anything on this?
  17. I think Rik is coaching boys middle school at Happy Valley.
  18. Coach Weems took a job in the private sector. It was a tough decision for him to leave coaching and teaching, but in the end, he did what was best for his family. Len Dugger will do a fine job as coach of the Lady Cyclones. I agree with coachh17. The 07-08 team will have a good blend of experience and youth. Im not sure who's strong in District 2AA this year, but District 1AA will have a number of good teams, including the Lady Cyclones, veteran Unicoi and South Greene teams, and an improved Happy Valley team.
  19. Austin East has a good chance to repeat.
  20. Bucdaddio, Im just basing my opinion on what Ive seen over the years. I would not trust Kemp to tell me who was D1 and who wasnt.
  21. Pickwell and Williams are both very good high school players, but I think its a stretch to promote them as major or mid-major D1 talent. Parrothead's article is a little over the top. The point a previous poster made is true. If they were both legit D1 players, their team would have had more success. It would appear that South has had a losing record each of the last three years. Perhaps this is the year South can challenge for the conference title.
  22. Cody was a senior this year at Tennessee High, where he transferred to play for former Cyclone coach and AD Gil Payne. Article in todays Elizabethton STAR by Tim Chambers is very touching. Please remember Cody, his family and friends in your prayers. He was a passenger in a small truck that wrecked early sunday morning. Prayers also for the two young men who remain in critical condition. Edit: Coach T now has the article linked on the home page.
  23. New Lady Cyclone Coach is Len Dugger. Announcement should make the media by tommorrow.
  24. Elizabethton AD Mike Wilson was quoted in today's JC Press as saying the evaluation of applicants continues, and is being complicated by finding an available teaching position for the applicants being considered. School starts friday. Honestly, I thought the position would have been filled last week.
  25. No definite word yet. They are still in scramble mode.
