  1. In a graduate class i attended years ago an administrator discussed a national study that stated athletes typically participate in a sport for 11 years before burnout becomes a factor. So if an athlete starts participating at the age of 7 then burn out could start at the age of 18. I wonder if the year round participation has decreased the 11 years?
  2. Neil Phillips would be a great hire at Betsy. Young, knowledgeable, and a hard worker, his teams always play hard. You guys talk about not having experience as a head coach. That may be true but he has experience. He has been the head JV. coach at a couple inner city schools in the Greensboro area and also at Bristol for a number of years. Not only has he handled those jobs well he also has worked under some very good coaches in those schools. He comes from a strong family of educators and coaches. His father did a wonderful job at Hampton, his brother-in law is Elizabethton's Mr. Baseball, now with the Texas Rangers. What else does Betsy want? Remember Coach English at Unicoi County was an assistant, JV coach, before he got his chance. Charlie Morgan was Pitt's assistant at Science Hill. And remember, Betsy's last two head coaches were established head coaches that just didn't get it done so maybe they should look for someone younger. Other names that Betsy should consider is John Good at Science Hill, another great coach that needs a chance. Mitch Cox at North does more with less than anybody. Coach Smith an assistant at Unicoi County, Coach Browles at Daniel Boone. These guys are hard working individuals that deserve a chance.
  3. Congratulations Lady Vikings! Fun game to watch.
  4. If I am not mistaking the Tennessee High Head Girls coach was the head girls coach at Sullivan North several years back before taking an assistants position at THS (he may have went somewhere in between or was a GA at some college). In fact, I believe his dad was the assistant boys coach at Lynn View High and then at North for many years.
  5. WOW! Tennessee High has more depth at running back as any high school I have seen, in a long while. Very talented backs. Glad to see Stubbs and the Vikings back in the Wing T.
  6. Coach Clark Salary= Thousands New Field turf= Millions New Field House= More Millions Loss to Daniel Boone= Priceless Got Turf??
  7. I would say coach17 and hs friends know better but I think. Daniel Boone, Dobbyns-Bennett, Sullivan East, Sullivan Central (I think), Science Hill and now Tennessee High.
  8. Hope my post about Coach Wampler did not seem like an attack on anyone because that was not why I posted it. I was simply saying that I was suprised that he is not calling the offense for Tennessee High. The talent pool at Tennessee High is a lot like Wampler had at Anderson County. Also with his success and experience and with the complaints I read about the offense on this board I just made a statement. I know Coach Stubbs and most of his assistants and I would not say anything negative toward any of them. In fact being a retired coach, I would not attack any coach or teacher for that matter. I gaurentee you that every coaching staff in this area is probable meeting and watching film as I write this, instead of out spending time with their wives and families and I appreciate their dedication. I am sorry if my post was taking as an attack.
  9. I am suprised the offense has not been turned over to Coach Wampler. When I was selling sporting goods in Knoxville, Wampler was offensive coordinator at Anderson County for Larry Kerr and he did a great job with a wide open offense that averaged around 200 yards rushing and 150 passing. Anderson County has not been the same since he left.
  10. Tennessee High Ran about 4 plays tonight at the jamboree and Coach Stubbs said they put those plays in yesterday in the rain. You will not see a Stubbs coached team run every play out of the gun. Hope both teams strap it on next week because they will be some hits with Tennessee Highs big fullback and with DB's Sensabaugh. Will be a fun game to watch next week. I wish both teams luck, and as always hope no one is injured.
  11. I am sticking my two cents in here, and probable should not. But here goes, I was at the Morristown East scrimmage at the beggining of the season and saw SS for the first time and his appearance ruined it for me, the hat and unshaved appearance was so unproffesional. Thats when I posted that Coach Carter at South would outcoach him. To some this may sound crazy but being a former coach many years ago I learned you could judge a football program by the appearance and profesionalism of their head coach. Like anything else the guys that walk quietly and carry the big sticks (class), are the ones who kicks your butt. When a guy has to tell me how good of a coach he is or has to draw attention to himself ( the gilligan hat) are not very good. I hate it for the Topper kids but the parents and supporters playing that political game got exactly what you deserve. You guys ran off one of the classiest men in this area and now you have the mud on your face.
  12. Congratulations to both teams and to both coaching staffs. Thats the way you bring it. All I can say is WOW, one of the best games I have seen in a long time. I did not want to see Tennessee High nor Sullivan Phillips loose. And believe me I say that with all respect. For Phillips, If he is not the Running Back Mr. Tennessee this year they are not a cow in Texas. And after living in Texas for 30 years I know they have cows. The kid did everything: I think he was directing me when I parked my car, Looked like he was playing the Sax in the band at halftime, and the popcorn he popped was the best I ever ate. If I was the South Coaching Staff I would be washing the old boy's car today, he makes them look like a million dollars. And if I was his lineman I would buy and carry his lunch tray everyday. They were at least 3 plays last night that South's offensive line never blocked anyone and Phillips still gained about 11 on each play. As far as people saying South is not a one man team? Phillip's is responsible for every yard gained whether he keeps or not. You have to have atleast two playing him on the keep every down. The thing I think will hurt South is their defense. They have to commit at least 9 to stop the run and they struggled to cover the back out in man coverage, and then when they went zone they could not stop the run. Because of that Tennessee High may have a chance to go a little deeper in the playoffs. IMO
  13. As much as you said it #4 you definitely know a few things about getting beat deep. I think it was at least twice the past two years verses south, right. /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />
  14. 1. South Greene (of course I am biased) 2. Unicoi County ( Well Coached) 3. Elizabethton (Could be #1 Depends on how many Bahamians) 4. Happy Valley (Good freshman) 5. West Greene (Improved) 6. Chuckey Doak 7. Sullivan North
  15. I like Nickels and Caldwell, both are tough. The Jones girl THS is the one that was injured when we played them this summer and last season. I think I remember her from a couple years ago at the region at Greenville. Also people say the Montgomery girl is the real deal. My friend who coaches football at TN. High says she is getting looks now as a junior, from D-1 schools said some Southern conference school head coach has came to watch her play pick- up I think it was either Chatanooga, Furman, or Western Carolina not sure which. But this has to be exciting for her.
