  1. he doesn't have to do it all by himself. he plays for mlk so you know they are going to have some good players just because of history and coaching. their middle school team won city big and i dont know how many of them were 8th graders but they should have some incoming talent if any of them were 8th graders. but obviously gerald will still have to carry the team he just wont be completely alone and wont have to dominate by himself at least not on the district level.
  2. my top 5 in no particular order is: whites creek antioch mlk brentwood academy oakland
  3. yeah it seems like that happens to them pretty much every year. they are a decent team. region 1 is looking like they are probably the number 2 region in the state right now for a/aa. the fra, dl, mlk region is still the best like they always are though.
  4. has mong central played any top teams this year?
  5. fra has plenty of team speed. come on they have sub-2:00 800m runner kyle patterson. they just don't have enough players to play with the big guns like mlk, lipscomb, and pearl cohn. it doesnt help that their school has about a third of the students. the private school multiplier killed them basically
  6. yeah the way crowder talks is really recognizable and thats not it
  7. i think fra was 3rd for guys but im not sure
  8. hahaha doubt it. should be a blowout both games this time
  9. jackson ran that not johnson, at region last year. if ryan johnson has run that fast at steeple it was not in a race
  10. only? 6 4 isnt exactly tiny, anyone that is that tall should be able to dunk pretty easily
  11. wow i knew oak hill was always a powerhouse and i knew they generally have 6-7 d1 players a year but to have only 3 players over the course of 20 years to not recieve a scholarship at any level is insane
  12. haha yeah understandable mistake. a lot of people are just callin him mo miller now. like g-rob with gerald robinson
  13. yes he does attend fra and the bottom line is the person that ranked them was basically saying that the bottom three could finish in any order and he was just going by guessing basically. we all know the regional qualifiers are gonna be the same as last year
  14. i didnt say he IS anwhere near those guys i said he WAS near those guys. sophomore year he was playing just as well but last year both gerald and josh had huge breakout years and zach didnt. i dont think he's gonna go out and put up numbers like those guys or anything this year but he will be good and i think he will help get his team to region
  15. are you serious? maurice miller goes to raleigh egypt. he commited to georgia tech. he is ranked number one in the state right now for all players. and since no one is saying anything about d2 im gonna kick that off. its gonna be between the 2 ba and future lipscomb university students in my opinion, brian wright and brandon brown. christain brothers has walker who is pretty good but he's gonna have to put up some big numbers to take it away from one of the players on the team that will once again win state for what seems like the millionth time
  16. yeah zach had a little bit of an off year from a very good sophomore year. however, when they started bringing him off the bench he started playing a lot better last year. he was one of the main reasons for hume fogg upsetting mlk at the end of the season last year, hitting some clutch free throws and just having an all around great 4th quarter off the bench. he also played well in the tournaments once again coming off the bench. i think now in his senior year he will step up and compete with the big guys we've all been talking about like robinson and slater. he had just as good of a sophomore season as those 2 guys and just had a bad year last year
  17. yeah a surprise 3rd place is completely different from a surprise win. like i said the top 2 are already decided pretty much. there really is no surprise 3rd place team this year because none of us know whos gonna get it. there are like 5 teams with a chance or more and etown is one of them along with many others. and i agree with stealth i dont remember thinking to myself page is gonna get 3rd. i thought it was gonna be dl but they didnt either. the reason knox catholic surprised everyone was because half the state didnt know they had switched to a/aa that year. most of us probably thought they were still d2 until regionals came around
  18. rhodes already is a superstar in tennessee. hopefully he will break into the national spotlight this year like his bolivar predecessors. he has a chance to be one of the top recruits for 08. that kid brings down boards like crazy and that was sharing them with wayne. think about how many he's gonna get know having those boards all to himself
  19. well actually only two out of liberty, bolivar, lipscomb, and mlk can go to state because they are all in the same substate i was just kinda naming top teams in the state but all four of those teams do deserve to be there. i think if the sides of the bracket fall correctly it will be liberty and mlk making it to state unless mlk chokes again in which case it will probably be lipscomb (because we all know that liberty is a given). i know a lot of bolivar fans are about to jump on me but im sorry i just really like slater and robinson
  20. why do people immediately assume that just because a coach has talented players that makes him a bad coach? just because his players were good does not by any means make him a bad coach. he still has to make all the normal decisions that any coach makes and he still has to get them to practice and get them working well together. its so annoying when people immediately say a coach stinks because his players are good. its just ignorant
  21. not to be mean to you or anything but unfortunately defense counts for very little when it comes to mr basketball voting. unfortunately the voting usually goes to the person with the best stats and team record. this is not by any means because the voters know nothing about basketball its just because they cant watch every single game that every candidate plays to find out what else they do that doesnt show up on the scorecard. all they can do is look at the stats from every game and maybe watch a few games here and there.
  22. this year will be a race for third behind dl and fra no questions asked. it would be pretty sweet if mlk got 3rd and completed the region sweep at state but i think it will probably end up being usjc in 3rd
  23. i agree with all of that except i think slator is number 3 in the district, i think mason is 2, not because mason is better, just because there is no one left in the district that can stop someone that big now that clarence smith is gone. smith's little brother, a junior this year, is good he's just not quite as tall as clarence was so even though he will be one of the best big men in the district he still can't really do anything about mason who has 3 or 4 inches on him
