  1. What do you mean who can stop them??? There will be several teams that can beat AC once they finish the District Tournament. First, they better worry about getting by Loudon Friday night. During regular season, they split with Loudon, both games were pretty close. I do believe AC will win the District though. However, once they get to the Regions, at some point if they make it far enough, they will have to play Austin-East. I've seen Austin-East play a couple times this year and AC will not beat them. AE has a very good chance at making it to the Boro. I'm not sure what kind of talent will be there from West Tennessee but I'm sure it will be good. AE maynot win the state but they will make a good run at it. Believe it or not, you may think from my comments that I dont think much of AE, thats not true, I'll be at the game Friday night pulling for Anderson County.
  2. Very good point Kazam37!!! Another reason for allowing 4 teams to go to the Regions is any team can have off nights. Perfect example, Kingston Boys lost to CAK by 26 points just a couple weeks ago, in the district tournament, Kingston boys beat CAK. Now last night, they lost to Anderson County by just a couple, who's to say that they wont beat AC in the Region if they play each other.
  3. I agree with most of what you're saying. Only the winner of the consolation game should move on to the Regional Tournament. However, if you consider it this way, a team like Kingston Lady Jackets, very young and inexperienced, are playing in the consolation game Thursday night, win or lose they are going to the Regional. I realize they take 4 teams to the Regions just for the additional money, but I also think it gives them the opportunity to get more experience, and hopefully will get to play a team or two they didnt play during their regular season.
  4. If anyone was at the Kingston / Anderson County game last night, please explain how a team (Kingston), can play fairly well in the 1st half (26-23 AC Leading), and then only score 1 point in the 3rd qtr and 3 points in the 4th and end up getting blown out of the gym by 31 pts. I realize the Lady Jackets are young and no where near a top team, however, they've played fairly close games here recently, only lost to Loudon by 6 on Friday. Why is this team struggling and so inconsistent??
  5. Here's my opinion for what its worth. First, all refs make some bad calls, thats just part of the game. However, the biggest problem as I see it is there is absolutely no consistency from one game to the next. You may go to a gym where the refs call every little thing, two days later you're playing in another gym where the girls are beating the heck out of each other and nothing gets called. The poor girls dont know how aggressive they can play because they never know how close the refs are going to call the games. There needs to be more consistency in what is and is not going to be called
  6. The article I read does imply that the opposing team coach stated they gave up playing any defense the entire second half. What does that say about her so called accomplishment??!! It also says the league they play in is not very strong!!. I'm not doubting this young girl has talent and I'm not saying she did anything wrong, in my opinion, her coach should be FIRED!! Basketball is a team sport no matter what some people think, and any coach that has a lead in a game like this team evidently did, and decides to continue to let this girl rack up points just to break a record really doesnt understand what the game of basketball is all about.
  7. I agree with BBalltn, Kingston is very young. I believe Oliver Springs is young also and over the next few years, when these two teams meet, we should all see very exciting games. I look forward to it!!
  8. Great win for Scott County!! Kingston just lost to Catholic last Friday night. I saw that game and to be honest, Kingston just played bad. They shouldnt have lost. Anyway, what are the chances Scott County and Kingston will meet again in the District Tournament?
  9. Just wanted to congratulate OS! I never thought they would beat AC. I did say "if they both played their best games", from what I've read, AC didnt play as well as they could. However, it doest matter now. OS is a very good ball team and they proved it!
  10. I could really care less who wins, however, I thought I would put my 2 cents worth in. I've seen both teams play. I saw Christopher when she scored 34 against Kingston. However, if both teams play their very best, Oliver Springs doesnt stand a chance against AC. Period!!!!!
  11. Brook Gentry (Kingston) 12 ppg, 4 or 5 rbpg and a couple assists pg. Sophomore Starting Wing Tayler Smith (Kingston) 8 ppg, 8 rbpg, 2 blocks pg and 2 steals pg, 5'10 Freshman Is their starting Low Post. Although Kingston is not having a good season, they are a very young team and these two girls will be their go to players over the next 2 and 3 seasons.
  12. First, I'm from Kingston. Here's the way the district stands as of Friday: Loudon Anderson Co. Kingston CAK Catholic Scott Co. Second, the first half of the game Friday night was very close. I believe Scott was actually leading at the half. However, the difference in the two halfs was simply turnovers. In the first half, both teams turned the ball over so many times, its a wonder either team scored at all. Kingston reduced their turnovers in the second half and that was the difference. They actually out scored Scott 17-2 in the 4th qtr. As for Coach M and the girls that evidently quit. Good for the Coach!! Now maybe he can work with the girls that are still there. I dont know who the girls were that played Friday night, but they put forth the kind of effort it takes to win. Give Marcum some time to develop these girls and I'll bet you'll be pleasantly surprised. Marcum coached my daughter this summer and I got to see what he was teaching, believe me, he's one of the better coaches around. Support him and Scott County will be ok in a couple years.
  13. For all the Scott County fans, you dont need to worry about Coach M. Even though I dont have anything to do with Scott County Athletics, I've observed Coach M. working with an AAU team this past summer. There were girls from Scott Co, Kingston, Wartburg and Sunbright I believe. I was extremely impressed with his coaching ability. He taught things that other High School Coaches dont even know to teach. The fans in Scott Co. need to be patient and understand that even with the greatest coach, you can only be as good as the talent you have. I'm sure Marcum will get his girls to produce at their highest level, that may or maynot be enough to win a district.
  14. I hate to disappoint you but I personally dont think the lady highlanders have a prayer against CAK!!!! What have they done lately that makes you think they can win??? They lost to AC by 20 something. Early in the season, they lost to Kingston by 18. Kingston lost to CAK by 3. They have convinced one of their scoccer players to join the team. Her name is Laura Novikoff, approximately 6'3, and even though I've heard she never played before this year, she's a good athlete and a very good basketball player. It may be true that Scott and CAK would have been a good game before she joined the team, however, with her, the Lady Highlanders will lose. I say CAK will win by 15 or 20 if they play well.
  15. They play Oliver Springs tonight @ Oliver Springs. Could be another tough one.
  16. Thats my exact point, does anyone thats watched the lady jackets play have a thought about whats causing them to collaspe???
  17. Tonight the lady Jackets travel to O.S.. Does anyone think they have a chance? In their last 3 games, Lenoir City, Bledsoe County and Meigs County, they have had a lead at the half, yet they went on to lose all 3 games. In one of those games, they were up by 5 @ the half, they extended that lead to 8 during the 3rd Qtr, yet still they lost. In the L.C. game, they were up by 3 or 4 @ the half, again, they increased that lead during the 3 Qtr but ended up losing. What gives?? I've noticed that Coach P. does a tremendous amount of substituting, does anyone else see this? In all three of the losses I mentioned, he had 5 girls on the floor that were in a rythymn, they had increased their lead, then he begins substituting and we end up losing the game. Does anyone else think this could be causing the problem, if not, why do you think the lady jackets cant close out a win when they are winning into the 3rd Qtr?
  18. Free throws continue to kill them!!! As for Gentry being a ball hog, if you recall last year, they really relied on her to create some offense since no one else did. Brooke did a very good job last year. From what I've seen this year, sometimes she gets carried away and thinks she has to carry the team. She should let the game come to her. With her and Smith posting down low, they should be able to do very well. I'm very anxious to see the stats on the Prep Extra Website. Gentry scored 15 I think but I wonder how many times she shot?? I'm sure her shooting percentage will reflect what I'm referring to.
  19. Kingston is playing at Midway in a Christmas tournament. It starts next Wed. They play Wed night. Thursday and Fridays games will be determined by whether they win or lose Wednesday.
  20. Talk about giving one away!!!!!!!!!! Kingston led at the half 23-17. They were getting the ball down low and doing a pretty good job at the free throw line. Then they collasped. Why is it so hard to understand that their strongest when they get the ball down low??? And what was Gentry thinking with less than 45 seconds to go in the game. Kingston is down by 9 and she's driving the ball down the lane trying to score 2 points?? Its true she drew a couple fouls but what good is that when you're down by 9 with less than 45 seconds left in the game. I saw her yell at Whitney to give her the ball, you could tell Whitney didnt like it. And even though they dont have a real 3 point shooting threat, if someone should have been taking shots, it should have been Whitney, Kayla, Laura or Alisha, not Gentry!! Gentry and Smith should be getting the ball inside, if they're not able to penetrate and get an inside shot, they should kick it back outside. Are these girls more interested in their individual stats or winning ballgames? Watching the last 45 seconds of last nights game really makes you wonder. Hopefully at some point, they will finally realize that how many you score, block, steal or rebound, doesnt mean anything if you're not winning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  21. Tonight the Lady Jackets get their 2nd chance at Greenback. I think they have a real good chance to win if they can decrease their turnovers, increase their foul shooting percentage and last, get the ball inside to Gentry and Smith. Its obvious to those familiar with this team that their strength is inside. For some reason, the girls dont want to pass it down low or they just struggle passing the ball at all, which causes them the inability to pass it down low without turning it over. Theres no doubt that they have the ability to beat Greenback, they just need to play smart.
  22. I havent seen OS play this year although I have read a lot about them. I've also seen several of their players over the past several years. I have seen AC play this summer. Just a guess but I think AC will come out on top. It should be a good game but I think AC wins.
  23. I couldnt agree more!!!! Something that the coaches might want to take a look at is shooting percentages. I'm sure they're already aware of it and probably having the girls work on it but just for the sake of a discussion, lets take a look at 3 areas: 3 Point Shooting - Current shooting % from the Arc is 22%. They did however shoot 72% in the Harriman game. Hopefully that will be the case tonight. Field Goals - Current shooting % is 39%. Not terrible for a H.S. team but could be a little better. Free Throws - Current shooting % is 51%. Even though this is their best %, its really hurting them. They've lost two games in overtime, if they could increase this %, they could have very easily added two more wins to their season if not 3 or 4 more. I really hope Coach Plemons has them spend extra time in practice hitting the free throws.
  24. Any thoughts about how they will do Friday Night against Loudon? They should match up pretty well with them but I think Loudons speed and quickness could be the deciding factor. Kayla, Laura and Alisha better be in a zone if they want to keep this one close. Brooke and Tayler better be CRASHING the boards also. Katie will have her hands full trying to get the ball down the court with Loudons quickness. The girls better be alert on both sides of the ball because Loudon hustles the entire game and sneaks up on you and more often than not, creates numerous steals and turnovers.
  25. Yeah, that shot from half court was pretty funny. I guess that means she's 0 for 1 from the 3 point line!
