  1. It was several years ago when the long shorts were coming into style. We did not have them yet (Rural KY HS). Opposing team (district rivals) chanted "Daisy Dukes" and when my friend was at the free throw line they yelled, "Can my girlfriend get a pair?" The next time we play them one of us gets up to the line, they yell "Can my girlfriend get a pair?" again and all of a sudden our student section holds up the largest pair of granny panties and chants "Will these fit the cow?" and begin "moo"ing every time their best player touches the ball. His girlfriend apparently breaks out in tears and begins to cry thinking it is directed at her. Our section then begins to chant, "Give her a hug." I laughed the whole game, funniest thing I ever saw at a game.
  2. These were my keys and LA won all 3. 1.) LA's O Line did not let the defensive front get much penetration. 2.) LA kept us on our hills 3.) The opening drive of the 3rd quarter ate over 6 minutes, eventhough no score. It shortened the game and was in the back of my mind at least when we decided to go for 4th and long with less than 6 minutes to go. Again congrats.
  3. Thanks Rocking Chair. One thing about HS football is that we do not have the video and replays of College or NFL, so we have to ask. If you read the paper and most of the posts, you shut down Cates and you be LA. However I know as well as most football fans, if this was the case, you would not be in the championship. There are several others players that a defense has to respect to make Cates so dangerous and I was just wondering who are your unsung players. I will watch #8, but will be interested to see other battles within the game. As I stated in previous posts, when I was younger (several years ago) I grew up in small Kentucky town (Livingston is a Metropolis to us) and we played LA Middle on several occasions. The one thing I remember is that it was always our toughest and most physical game. So, I know your players will lay it on the line as well as DL players. I understand your fans community pride and school spirit, however we also have pride for our Mustangs. The negative aspect is that the only way some people show their pride is by disrespect for the other team. So from this Mustang fan, I respect your team, your fans and your community. Whoever wins this game, will know that they beat the best. Go Mustangs. I'll get off my soapbox now.
  4. No, I am not a coach. I figure they have already seen all the tapes and know what to expect. I like football and wanted to know something about some of the other players as I placed in my earlier post. Please do not turn the thread into the other. I know I'll see Saturday. I think this game will be the best of the weekend.
  5. Besides Cates, who are some of the players that I should be watching. Interior Lineman, Defensive players, etc...
  6. Please post what you think are the keys to the game for each team. We all know about Elrod and Cates, as well as Binkley. I am looking for the little things that will help each team. Here are some of mine from the Lipscomb side, not that I am predicting a win but things that I think would lead to a Lipscomb win. 1.) Defensive Line - Will they continue to be disruptive and allow Binkley, Binkley and Lehning to make plays. 2.) Field Position - I have been amazed all year how Lipscomb has one this battle. 3.) Time Management - DL has eaten up the clock on drives at the same time has not allowed many big play from their opponents. These are some of the "little things" that will determine the game. LA fans or fans of teams that have seen these team play. List your keys to the game. Finally, please no insults or personal attacks. There is a thread full of those and I would like to know more about LA and talk some football
  7. I preface these comments by saying I send my son to David Lipscomb, however I attended a rural high school in Southern Kentucky. St.X and Trinitys rivalry has pushed the envelope as far as competitive advantage for the privates. They have significantly upped the ante over the last ten years. That being said I spoke with my best friend, who watched the St.X and Warren Central game, said St.X numbers (close to 100 players) wore WC out. He said they would rotate the whole offense line every 3-4 plays. He also stated that privates won 18 of 21 championships in the Kentucky last year. All privates in Kentucky can offer financial assistance to athletes and you play your classification on size (no multiplier) I do not know the answer to the public/private issue, but the adding of more championships water all championships down and increase expenses for all schools. Since there are no classifications in KY basketball, there was nothing more fun than taking on the big boys. I was at a 1a school and had to play the 4a schools. Now we lost more than we won against the bigger schools, but those wins were special.
  8. Congrats to both DL and LA. Great run for both teams and both sets of fans should be proud of their teams. I look for a great battle on Saturday and expect both teams to play their best. This game could be a classic. Although I am a DL fan now, I can remember playing against LA in my younger days. I will predict one thing; both of these teams will bring it and both respect each other and will not overlook each other.
  9. Great game DL and did Lexington leave anyone at home last night? Why are you so against private schools? I'll give you a little background on my experiences . I played at a public school in KY and beat and lost to both public and private schools. There is only one state champion in basketball (no classifications). There was nothing more fun to be a small school and beat someone twice the size of us. I never thought about the difference. In case you did not know the difference between DL, Goodpasture, CPA, etc..., and MBA,MUS and Chrisian Brothers is that we do not give financial support to athletes. I had to sign an affidavit that if my son accepted any assistance at DL he would be ineligible to play all sports and he is currently in Kindergarten. I will happily pay $7,000 a year even if I have to borrow it, so he does not have to go to Metro Schools.
