  1. As a coach I have seen refs become more consistent with the way they call matches personally, but have seen consistency from ref to ref or area to area become more of a problem. I have seen the video in question and have seen the exact scenario called (not for the 5 seconds heel to butt, but rather or not the top guy is actually trying to improve his situation to secure a pin) and uncalled. I think a clarification of rules and movement more towards the college rules would benefit the sport. One in particular is stalling on the wrestler in control after the bottom wrestler has risen to his feet. Some referees use a five count (not in the rule book, but a good general reference) others simply call what they see as action/no action. I would prefer the rules be more exact, exampled by a vocal 5 count the moment bottom wrestler gets to his or her feet. This does put the top wrestler at a disadvantage, but it creates consistency which leads to easier instruction during practice. I would also like a clearer definition to stalling as it relates to effort, technique, and ability. Some refs call stalling for the lack of all three where others look at just one or two of the components and not the other. If the lack of technique or ability is stalling then it needs to be called consistently, which again would lead to better instruction. Just a couple of examples of this would be heavyweights becoming overpowered or top wrestlers riding or turning.
  2. Does anyone have contact information for Creekwood's girls tournament?
  3. I just wanted to extend my gratitude to Coach Cozine and the Rossview program. Extremely classy in helping us honor Mason tonight.
  4. TSSAA rules meeting. Starts at 6:00 in Siegel High's auditorium.
  5. Many of you have asked about the damage caused by the senior prank at Siegel High School. I will say that they are actually really great kids that made a poor decision out of ignorance not malice. After the incident, the responsible parties came forward (at the risk of not participating in graduations ceremonies) and have since been raising funds to fix the damage. I ask that you do not judge them too harshly, in fact, even though I was directly effected I'm proud of the fact that these kids are showing ownership of their mistakes. If you are interested in helping them raise funds (which in turn helps the wrestling team recover from the incident) they will be holding a car wash at Siegel. I believe it starts around 10:30 but I'm not sure when it ends.
  6. Siegel High School is currently looking for on staff assistant wrestling coaches with endorsements in Social Studies or Math. We are also trying to establish a middle school team. If you have an endorsement in (6-8)Science, Social Studies, Launguage Arts and you are interested in starting a middle school program please let me know. 7. I got a chance to talk to Womack and was really impressed with the young man. Class act. I mentioned that he hit a sick move during our match and would love to see it on video (meaning that we were recording it). About an hour later he came up to me with his camera and walked me through it.
  8. On Saturday Night 7:00pm at Warren County High School, my father (James Ramsey III), brother (James "Bo" Ramsey IV), and coach (Steve Fullam) will be the first inductees into the Warren County Wrestling Hall of Fame. If you are in the area and have been a part of this program or just a part of the sport please feel welcome and encouraged to attend. They have established a program that has lasted over 20 years and has produced district championships, region championships, Tennesee's first girl to qualify for the state tournament, and many state medalist. Any questions please call Coach Steve Martin at 931-743-5683. *Extremely proud of my father and brother!*
  9. Siegel will be hosting Franklin, Centennial, and Shelbyville Dec 5th at siegel. I'm looking for another team to fill in as well to ensure that every team has the ability to wrestle three matches. (Franklin and Centennial will not wrestle) You will likely wrestle Siegel, Centennial, and Franklin. Please email me at ramseyl@rcs.k12.tn.us if interested.
  10. In the anticipation of potential job openings this summer, I am looking to get a lead on any one interested in becoming a teacher / assistant wrestling coach at Siegel High School. We are an up and coming program that averages over 30 kids per year, a great booster club / parent support, and have constantly improved every year. If interested, please contact Lee Ramsey at ramseyl@rcs.k12.tn.us . Please include the subject areas that you are certified to teach and a brief background of wrestling experience.
  11. Thank you for doing this. As far as I'm concerned you are welcome to Siegel whenever you want to come. Just give me a heads up and a chance to clear it with all the visiting teams. Also our Jan 21st date mentioned earlier in the post is not at MLK, just MLK holiday.
  12. At star raider, I know this is meant in jest, but please refrain. As an employee at siegel I am held to a high standard of What I can and should say that isn't always followed by all on coacht. Thank you for the shout out though.I will say that im Proud of the stars players and coaches and look forward to watching them represent us the rest of the season. (Typed on phone i apologize for errors)
  13. I wanted to add my two cents about the officiating as a whole. I feel that this is the best season I have seen throughout the year and at the state tournament, my only gripe is the waste of having two officials the entire tourn, due to the reluctance of the refs to discuss close calls with each other. I'm sure it happened at some point, yet I never saw them discuss a single call through Friday night. One match in particular with one of my wrestlers there was a questionable reverse situation that my kid recieved an escape instead of a reverse.I didn't challenge the call, I just asked the ref to confere with the assisting ref before moving on and he said no because it would be questioning his judgement. After the match, I heard the refs discussing the call as they walk off the mat and the ref said that he almost gave him two but wasn't sure, then asked the other ref what he thought. At that point, its moot. If there was any question take the time and discuss it, I know it slows it down a little, but to me the work kids put in over the year earns getting it right in crucial moments. Again, it was a close enough call I wouldn't want to make but if there is help then use it. I can understand tough calls, blown calls, etc..but I know most refs do it for the love of the sport and kids so why not ensure accuracy?
  14. If you are looking for a wrestling event in Middle Tennessee to attend there will be the Region V J.V. tournament hosted by Siegel High School this Saturday. Wrestling will begin at 10:00am.
  15. Amazing match! Great atmosphere and as always coach cook put together a great squad. Proud of every kid that stepped on the mat for both teams.
