  1. ...OK I will throw my little 2 cents in. As a player from many, many, many years ago, I always loved to play defense better than offense. I got more pumped up and it just felt awesome when you played hard-nose defense on someone. And the coach I played under was all about good defense, but to say that good defense can win games, would be a little misleading, because you have to have the offense to go with it. What good does it do a team that can cause turn overs if they can't get the ball in the basket on the other end. Example.....Right now SHS girls team can play real good denfense, and if you watch their game against Loudon @ home, they were real behind and their defense stepped it up and they got real close, within 1 point. BUT... then they couldn't make some cruical baskets when they needed them, and in the end lost the game. And in that game they missed Alot of lay-ups. Another thing that can win or lose a game is FREE THROWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would say more games are won or lost by free throws more than Defense or Offense.
  2. GO twich somewhere else "PickNRoll", I can be impressed by them anyway I want to be. I will gush and praise them all I want to.
  3. Job well done ladies!!!!!!!!!! Very impressive. looks like all the pieces are coming together, and I am so happy for the team, I am sorry you all didn't get the win but you defintely, earned alot of respect last night. Perfect time to get it all together, almost District tourney, good luck!!!!
  4. Well it varies, but lately it has been K.Lowe, B Strunk, B Silcox, S Phillips, M Lowe but he usually takes M Lowe out very quickly and puts in Hutson. I think the rotation he uses, is workin real good. against Loudon they did really good. Did you see the game?
  5. And I in return will ease up on the 6 girls that quit. I just read all the threads about SHS and how they will miss those girls. Yes they will be missed one way or another, but the "rumors" are they quit because they didn't get the playing time they and their parents, "I am sure", thought that they should. But according to you the 6 that quit made the difference in a couple of games. Then my question to you and anyone else is...."If they didn't get to play much then how did they make such a difference in previous games?" It sounds like to me a bunch of sour grapes...Anyways this subject has been turned every which way that it can be. So it's a dead topic now. So Glass Eater what do you think about the starting 5 lately? Good choices or do you think there is another 5 that would do better? Are there any girls playing that you think shouldn't be? Just asking, wanting to know your opinon.
  6. Glass eater, your a sad little person. You say that I don't think much of the girls that quit. Well excuse me, I didn't know quitters was something to be admired. And I could say the same thing about you. You don't seem to care anything about the Lady Highlanders or their Coach. Are you a parent of one of the Ladies that chose to quit? Whatever, and yes now that you mentioned it, I am looking up the stats for other games. So I don't make the mistake of saying the girls won't be missed, without some stats to back it up. But to put all of that aside, they quit so it really doesn't matter if they would have helped or not, because now they are no longer on the bench so they took theirself out of the equation. GOOD LUCK AGAINST LOUDON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. The Lady Highlanders won and loss games before the girls left the team and they have won and loss since then too. To Coach Marcum, my hats off to you, you have made Lady Highlanders ball fast paced again and even if they lose they are a pleasure to watch, at least they lose doing their best. You can't get out there and make the baskets fall for them. I am waiting to see how the season ends, and really looking forward to next season, since you will have much more time with them to prepare for next season. I am sure it will only get better. Good Luck Coach M.
  8. First Gibbs game..... Tara Jeffers had 4 rebounds,4 points, caught the ball and walked twice with it, and missed 5 open passes while she was in the paint. Haley Watts had 2 rebounds 1 assist. Bee had 2 points, 1 assist, 2 rebounds 1 steal. Jenny Shelton had 2 points, 1 rebound. Whitney Strunk had 9 points. CAK game.... Jenny had 4 points. Tara 1 foul, walked 1 time. Whitney had 5 points, 3 rebounds. and the tall girl from CAK had 12 rebounds,16 points, 1 steal, 4 fouls. I don't think Watts played and Acres played but didn't score any points, Bee played and had 1 rebound.
  9. I have asked if any of these accusations about Coach M. are true. And a parent said NO!, that her daughter said that he is not abusive at all, yes he yells, but doesn't all coaches yell sometimes. He wants the best and will settle for nothing less. The parents of these quitters need to get over it! They make themselves and their daughters look silly by running around the county and crying about it. Your daughters quit, they are no longer part of the team. That was their decision not anybody elses. So they didn't get to be a starter, and didn't play as much as they would have liked to, well my gosh, I am sure the concept of "your daughter just isn't that good of a player" ever entered your mind.
  10. well I am not attacking these girls personally, I don't know any of these girls, I have only watched them play basketball. And I am sure they will all be missed, but I was just stating what I thought and nothing more. I just wanted to add that I thought the team played really good in the first half against Kingston, I wish they had had a second half to go with it, but I think all the pieces of the puzzle are there to win games. Coach and the team are just going to have to figure out how to put them together. Good Luck against Gibbs.
  11. Ok Glass Eater, I will think before I speak next time, but that doesn't mean that I would have changed what I said. I agree with the fact that with Jeffers and Shelton quitting that we don't have much height anymore. Hutson is the tallest player now, but what exactly did these 2 girls do? The tall girl from CAK and Anderson Co. still hurt us, they made alot of points and they got alot of rebounds. I didn't see Jeffers or Shelton do anything to stop either of them, neither girl can rebound but then again we need better rebounding anyways. All the post girls need to do better at rebounding, and Watts had some good games too, OK, and Acres did have a game or 2 that she did well, but if everyone agrees that Marcum is a good coach then he plays who he thinks he can win games with. True? Only these girls know why they quit, and they did quit so therefore there is really no reason to discuss them further on CoachT. Because we will never know if they could help the team in the future. I just wish the girls that are left on the team the best of luck with the rest of their season.
  12. Hello to all, I am a new member on CoachT. I never really felt the need to post on here, but lately, the urge hit me. I have been reading the post on SHS, and Coach Marcum. I have been really back in to watching the Lady Highlanders for about the past 8 years. I go to all the games and if I can't make it then I watch the replay on the local cable channels. I was thrilled when I found out that Marcum was coming to SHS, because the man knows how to build a real good program. Rome wasn't built in a day you know! Eddie Kries did a good job last year. But Marcum is the man you need to bring this program back into competition. As far as the 6 girls quitting, there is an old saying. "A winner never quits and a quitter never wins" I hate that these girls quit because I don't like to see anyone quit something, but really only 2 of the 6 that quit will be missed. Whitney Strunk could hit the 3 ball and make things happen, and I really wanted to see Ashley Bee play but she has been sidelined for a while now with her knee. Ashley's freshman year the girl was very talented and you could except to see great things out of her in the future. But she tore her ACL and then has surgery and she hasn't gotten back to her level of playing that she had her freshman year. But other than those 2 what did we really lose?.....nothing the other girls that quit didn't really play much and if they did, didn't really do anything great. Now Marcum has girls that want to play and are willing to stick it out, so best of luck to Coach and the Ladies that are left, be patient, your time is coming. Keep working hard, never give up, and GET A WINNING ATTITUDE!!!!! GO LADY HIGHLANDERS
