  1. Ladies, that was a great performance by both squads tonight. I do believe that the fans of each school have a greater admiration for the other team after tonight's game. Both teams left their heart and soul's on the court. Congrats to Stone Memorial for the come-from-behind three point win!
  2. It was postponed because of snow!
  3. I can't get it to work either, so I downloaded that media player as well. How do I get the player to play that link? I tried pasting this link in the <Open Network Stream>, but it still doesn't work. http://sparksports.com/stream.cfm?load=tss...sports.com/tsrn Is this the correct link? Thanks!
  4. I think the poster meant to say Cumb. Cty. Congrats on the W last night. I'm still trying to figure out how we were in position to have the game-winning shot. Cleveland has a way of making CCHS play ugly. It seems the fans of the other two teams have muzzles on. Must be afraid of giving away weaknesses. I would have thought that maybe some rivals could give some insight, though.
  5. Cumberland Cty has one true post player. Two other girls guard the post, but prefer facing the basket on offense. Any of these three can also make threes. Only two of these start. They have a very good point guard. Great ball handler, penetrator, and can finish or dish. The strength, as has been mentioned, is the 2-guard slot. There are no less than four or five girls who rotate in to those two spots. At times, there may be 3 or even 4 of them on the floor at the same time. If they get in rhythm, they can put on a shooting clinic. As I mentioned earlier, they play great pressure D in spurts. I personally feel they should press more, but hey, it's worked pretty well so far. Now somebody tell us what to expect from Shelbyville, please!
  6. Hoping to get some insight into Shelbyville & Riverdale to see how 5AAA matches up. CCHS is a guard-dominated team. Can be deadly from 3 point land, but have struggled lately. Has trouble with physical inside-oriented teams. Not a good rebounding team. Plays great pressure D in spurts. Has shown an uncanny ability to get behind early (as much as 15-17 a game or two), and yet be in at the end. Cleveland (just from what I saw last night) A great inside game, and the guards know how to get the posts the ball in scoring position. Rebounds very well, even on the offensive end. Guards are cat-quick, and look to penetrate. I saw one good outside shooter last night. They may have more, but if so, they didn't attempt any bombs last night. 5AAA folks, have I missed anything? Oh yeah, congrats to Cleveland on the W last night, and good luck the rest of the way!
  7. Coach Marcum knows his stuff when it comes to softball. I have seen it first-hand. He will teach the girls the proper way to play the game. Now with that said, past playing experience (school & travel ball) of the girls will be the biggest factor. If he has to go back and teach the basics to most of the players, then obviously it will take time to get them up to speed. If he is given the chance and is willing to stick around, he will have a positive impact on the team.
  8. If the majority of the CCHS team follows Coach Smith from Cumberland County HS to Stone Memorial HS as is the belief, then they will have a very good team. They will need to develop some post players to complement the outside game. It has been reported that SMHS will be in AA, while CCHS will have to remain in AAA for one more year.
  9. Relax Buff fans. I'm sure P-J was just trying to get a rise out of you guys (it worked). I didn't get to make the game last night, but from listening to the end of it on the radio (RadioJet, you might lighten up on the refs, very uncool), it sounded like a great game between two great teams, regardless of classification. These two teams can compete with any in the state. As far as the tournaments go, the 5AAA district and then the Region tournaments are going to be very tough, and CCHS may not get to the sub-state. But I wouldn't bet against them. Good luck Lady Buffs!
  10. I'm assuming that school board policy takes precedence. As JetFan stated, those Seniors-to-be who would be zoned for SMHS have the option to have their senior year at CCHS, if they desire. However, if a Senior-to-be were zoned for CCHS, they could not move to SMHS for their senior year.
  11. Just north of I-40 at the 320 exit (Genesis Road).
  12. As previously mentioned, to combat recruiting, and hopefully make things as fair as possible, the school board has stated that a strict zoning policy will be enforced. This will be done by using the zoning for the elementary schools as the factor to determine which high school the students will be eligible to attend. Currently, four schools will feed CCHS, and five will feed SMHS, but the numbers of students will be comparable. There are talks of building a new elemtary school in the near future, so my guess is that the number of schools will be balanced at that time. Also, as mentioned, the talent should be fairly balanced coming from the various elementary schools with the two traditionally strongest elementary schools in girls bball each feeding one of the high schools. However, there will be a glaring discrepancy the first year or two after the split, because it is my understanding that the majority of the returning players on the current CCHS team are zoned for the new school. Add to the fact that SMHS will get to play in AA next year, while CCHS will have to remain in 5AAA, then CCHS will be at a disadvantage until they can move down to AA the following year.
