  1. Antwan, it's too bad you guys play OS on 9/13 and not 9/6...I'd have to consider missing the Gibbs game for that, but there are very few things that would make me miss a Kingston/Rockwood game... Which gives me another reason to vent: who decided that region games have to be played in wks 2,4,6,8,10 and if you have more than 5 region games, in weeks 7 & 9? Why don't teams just play their region games anytime during the season? (I know that some of the Mem and Chatt teams actually do that, but very few others do)
  2. I guess we'll see how the vote goes next week. The support for dissolving Harriman City schools was supposed to have been there the last time this vote came up... but the referendum failed. I guess we'll just have to wait and see...
  3. OS91, you've just strengthened my point. You don't want to consolidate or redraw districts for Harriman's (perceived) gain. Nobody supporting the other three county schools do either. I knew a couple of people from Sugar Grove Valley/Dyllis that went to Kingston when I did, but for the most part, folks in that area send kids to OS, and that's fine by me.... To answer your question, no I never thought OS would be where it is today... I also never thought I'd see OS have be the 2nd largest (by enrollment) in Roane County. The only area where I can see Harriman really wanting to boost enrollment that would hurt OS is Big Emory. I can, however, see them wanting to have all kids from Midtown and Emory Heights (both heavy feeders for Kingston). I don't think that Harriman residents will vote for the change, to be honest. I think this change may come when Harriman City council decides to just pass the law instead of putting it to a referendum. There are things in the current zones that make no sense at all, but I think everything that has been done for the past 11 years was based on the enrollment conditions that currently exist... so I can't see any major changes to school zones.
  4. I guess it is relevant if you want to bring DII back in....
  5. I hope you're right about AC... Kingston fell apart after the AC loss last year.
  6. I hate the division play... of course, I hate it even more when I look at Kingston's schedule and see AE, Fulton, Anderson Co., etc. At least all the favorites are in the same division (unless upperman or LA surprise some people)
  7. ...somebody from the other division took the 4-3A crown?

    Best HS game ever?

If I have to limit to one... Kingston d. White House, 10-3, 1998 3A Semifinals.
  9. I'm not sure which coach was at the helm at the time, but Kingston appeared in three straight AA championship games 71-73.
  10. VG, there are currently four high schools in the Roane County system, and Harriman High in Harriman City schools system. Harriman is trying to dissolve HCS, and join the county. There have been several different plans. The one that was on the ballot in 1991 would have built new schools at Midway (SE Roane) and Oliver Springs (NW Roane), and combined Kingston and Rockwood. Every school in Roane County is separated by a river or creek. I don't know exact enrollments, but here's the order of enrollment, biggest to smallest: Roane Co High (Kingston) Oliver Springs High Harriman or Rockwood Midway Kingston's district is City of Kingston, east Roane County, and parts of Midtown. Midway's district is southeast of Tennessee River. Rockwood's district is south Roane west of Tennessee River, City of Rockwood, and parts of Midtown. Harriman's district is City of Harriman. OS district is everything north of Clinch River north of Kingston, rural communities in north Roane east of Harriman, town of OS, and Norwood in Anderson County. Oak Hills in NE Roane County is in the Oak Ridge school district. Oak Ridge high is in Anderson County.
  11. I never said I wanted OS to consolidate. What I'm saying is that OS *residents* tend to support consolidation - for everybody else. I can be in Knox Co. in 15 mins from my house in Kingston via I-40, Knoxville metro or not. Rockwood doesn't want it, Kingston doesn't want it, Midway for darn sure doesn't want it, so why should OS dictate it to the other 3 (maybe soon to be 4) schools? I want to know when this came back up...
  12. Here we go again with MC/SP vs. Alcoa/Maryville. I'd like to know about some other rivalries!
  13. Just when I say Midway isn't going away, the rumors about Roane consolidation begin again.... By the way, nonews, exaclty what school will swallow up Moore County, Wayne County, Pickett County, etc.?
  14. Ego, which plan is VolGen's? I didn't know that I hadn't commented on it... ELA, I'm playing devil's advocate a little here, but how is it that Celina, in tiny, rural, Clay County doesn't have talent, but Moore County in tiny, rural Lynchburg is a perennial power?.... Does Hermitage Springs make that big a difference?
  15. That shouldn't give Oak Hills the right to dictate to Kingston, Rockwood, and Midway that their schools should be consolidated. Kingston and Midway interact a lot with each other, but I'd say Rockwood kids are just as likely to interact with kids from Cumberland Co. and Rhea Co. as they are from Kingston or Midway.... Maybe instead of trying to get money from Anderson County for the Norwood students, we could just convince AC to take in OSHS... (I'm not really in favor of that, but it makes as much sense as going the opposite direction)
  16. Well, we have batted back and forth ideas about how we solve our differences about classification. I just want to show you some math before you make your individual plan recommendations. I have advocated a 4-classification, 16-district plan, but that is a plan that requires some "fuzzy math" to make work. Here's some things I looked at today: In the current system we have 305 schools which competed last year in football, and we are adding 3 more. Of those, 23 were in division II. If we keep DII split as is: DI=308-23=285 3 classes: 285/3=95.00 teams per class 4 classes: 285/4=71.25 teams per class 5 classes: 285/5=57.00 teams per class 6 classes: 285/6=47.50 teams per class If we have a total split: DI=308-(23+19)=266 3 classes: 266/3=88.67 teams per class 4 classes: 266/4=66.50 teams per class 5 classes: 266/5=53.20 teams per class 6 classes: 266/6=44.33 teams per class If we have no split (my personal favorite): 3 classes: 308/3=102.67 teams per class 4 classes: 308/4=77.00 teams per class 5 classes: 308/5=61.60 teams per class 6 classes: 308/6=51.33 teams per class My recommendations based on the math: DII as is: 5 DI classes, 8 regs: (7x7)+(1x8)=57 Total split: 5 DI classes, 8 regs: (6x7)+(2x6)=54 No split: 5 classes, 8 regs: (6x8)+(2x7)=62 I would personally rather see 4 classifications, and 16 districts, but I just can't make the math work...
  17. For all the 1A publics who say the privates have an advantage, consider this: There are 58 in division 1, class 1A. Of those 58, 19 are private. Of those 19 privates, one is TSD, which does not compete for the title. So, for our discussion let's use 18 as the number of privates and 57 for the number of teams. That means that 31.6% or roughly 1/3 of the teams in 1A are private. The odds are 1 in 3 every year that a private will win, perceived advantage(s) or not. Conversely, there are 49 teams in Division 1, Class 2A, and a grand total of two private schools. Only 4.1% of 2A teams are private. It would seem that each year the odds of a private winning in 2A are 4 in 100, which are small compared to 1 in 3. Which classification has the bigger gripe? And, I continue to ask, why do we only hear the complaints from the mid-state? Alcoa, Milan, Sweetwater, Union City, etc... These schools haven't petitioned to play 3A... If there are flaws in my logic, please point them out!
  18. ELA, calm down... we'll get all this worked out (to the satisfaction of no one) in 2005...
  19. You might want to correct me on those, I think I ignored a lot of classification changes!
  20. Here's some possibilities: R6-8 stay the same R1 Sullivan North Claiborne County Union County Rutledge Gibbs Fulton Austin East R2 Pigeon Forge Seymour Lenoir City Loudon Sequoyah McMinn Central Walker Valley Howard R3 Anderson Co. Scott Kingston York LA Upperman Jackson Co. Clay Co. R4 Macon Co Westmoreland Sycamore Portland Trousdale Greenbrier Cheatham County Montgomery Central R5 DeKalb Co. Cannon Co. Smith Co. Page Grundy Co. Marshall Co. Giles Co. NO WONDER I LIKE THE 16-DISTRICT FORMAT!
  21. Okay...now I understand! I'm a little slow in my old age...
  22. I remember the vote was in 1991. My eighteenth birthday was during the 30-day window when voter registration was closed, but before the actual election. I remember because I missed the vote. I found out later that I could have registered before my birthday as long as I was 18 on election day... Let's just keep a close eye on these county commission and school board elections!
  23. Does that mean that Clay County will fill Celina's spot in 1A?
  24. Oh, TigersFan, let's not forget that this is also popular in Oak Hills, where the children go to Oak Ridge...
