  1. Firepower is the key word, both of these teams have it. It is going to be a great match between these two powerhouse teams. Coach Morgan and Coach Henry both do an exceptional job of preparing their teams to enter this very tough match early in the season. Good luck to both teams, should be fun to watch.
  2. "Eye of the Tiger" Survivor. or anything from a Rocky soundtrack "Headstrong" Trapt
  3. This is true , i have seens a couple of forfeits from Connell in big matches against Baylor. I acually recevied one of these forfeits a couple of years ago from the Blue Tornados, not a good feeling when you are facing your rivals for the last time. I think McCallie will have a team that they will be able to put out there against Baylor this year, they might not all be state champs, but they will be competitive.
  4. I aslo hope to see Idlette in the line-up this year, a very improved wrestler who is one heck of an athlete, he can really make things happen on the wrestling mat.
  5. Duncan could go either 103 or 112 depending on the rest of the line-up, either way Baylor will have another 8th grader starting in their line-up, possieble two wrestlers in the lower weights. What about some of those upper weights? they have to have some guys step up to fill those spots, football players? All I know is do not ever underestimate McCallie and the line-up Connel will put out their against the Big Red, I am sure we will see some shuffling of the wrestlers to get the best match ups.
  6. Casey Cothren of Bradley in 97, also Rabbit Turner in 97, both were in the finals that year. Cothren lost to Tim Voiles in the finals in 96 also.
  7. Baylor's lower school team was unbelievable this year, they won the middle school state tournament hands down. They blanked a team 90-0, I have never heard of anything like that. They have plenty of kids that will eventually contribute to the varsity, and I think a couple, soon to be 8th graders, that are going to make an impact in high school next year.
  8. The Baylor team of 2001 had 5 champs, 2 seconds, 4 thirds, 2 fourths, and 1 fifth. Half the team was in the finals, and practically the rest of the teams was in the 3rd place match. That team was also 27-0 in duals that year, and won every tournament they were in except McCallie, which was won by fellow DII rival Father Ryan. I believe that made a big statement for the ability of DII. Who wins this year? I think it is a toss up every year, I just wish the tournament was still combined like everyone else.
  9. I agree that Baylor has had many great teams since the split, but Father Ryan was really the dominate force in the begining. I was a part of Baylor's 1st team in the DII in 1998, and we were humbled very quickly by FRHS and MBA in our first year, 1999 was the 1st win for the program in DII beatting Ryan by 1/2 point. We brought back the same team the next year in 2000, and got blasted in the duals and the traditional. 2001 was in my mind the best team to come through Baylor in a long time (14 place finishers), and since then, we have been on a role. McCallie was on a role in the early 90's, then it was Overton, then Ryan, and now Baylor. I just hope the tradition continues.
  10. I agree with you, I pretty much knew Young was going to take the match and the state title, I just don't like the fact that he had to take a "brake" in the middle of the match. Yes, Bell would have had to do a lot of work to win the match, just like Still would have had to in order to win the 275 match. Both McCallie wrestlers did a great job in their matches against Baylor rivals, to me the injury time-outs just looked kind of like they needed a breather at the time. One more thing off the subject, but congrats to Will Young and the McCallie coaching staff for coming up with a great game plan to slow down Jed in the 140 match. I think that was the only way he wins that match, and it could not have come at a better time.
  11. Congrats to the Baylor and Soddy Daisy wrestling teams for bringing two more state championships to Chattanooga. Also to McCallie and Bradley for their effort as runner-ups. Now, I am a fan of DII wrestling and spent most of my time watching those matches, and one of the things that really got me fired up was at the 130 and 275 weight classes. Both weights were won by McCallie wrestlers who wrestled well and became champs. My problem is why they had to take brakes in the middle of their matches? I just don't like seeing guys win state who are not able to wrestle all 6 minutes without some kind of injury timeout. Give me your opinions?
  12. After Friday night's domination of the semi-finals, can anyone overtake the Red Raiders on Saturday? McCallie, MBA, who has the best shot of catching the leaders?
  13. Thanks, I'm glad you liked my Hallmark momment. Just wanted to remind everyone that these kids have been training for this day for the whole season, some their whole life. I know what a wonderful momment it is to win a state championship, I also know how horrible it feels to lose one when you are the favorite to win. It is not the time to start holding back, these kids need to go out and take what they want by giving it their all.
  14. I believe that Ben Johnson and Corey Manson have weak weight classes and will most likely dominate their way through the tournament. But, the state championship is a place where dreams come true, and many are shattered, so I doubt that either of these guys are going to overlook any of their compition. I know they will come out ready to take care of buisness this weekend.
  15. Any common opponents between Williams and Waddell that we could compair to think about the outcome of this matchup? I really had not heard of anyone that was going to challenge Dan this year until I started reading the posts. This makes things very interesting, especially if Williams is as good a wrestler as everyone has talked about. I hope that both wrestlers are up for the challenge, and I am sure both will be.
  16. I really do miss the pre-split days also, I had the pleasure to watch my brother win the state championship when the tournament was still combined, it must have been a true thrill to know that you are the best out there, and not having to wonder if the DI or DII guy could beat you. I wrestled in DII, and the one question I hated being asked was, "do you think you could have won the state if it was combined?" I am also happy kids do have the opportunity to still perticipate in this great sport that breeds leaders throughout life, But I wish we never had to have the DI vs. DII argument. Hey, at least we still have wrestling though! Good luck to all those perticipating in both State tournaments next weekend.
  17. I think that Baylor's draw is very good from what I have seen from the brakets, but in some of their weak weights I think they have the possibility of having guys knocked out early. It is going to be an interesting tournament, good luck to all the teams, I can't wait to watch it all unfold.
  18. walkenvol, I really don't know the facts about if ivy league schools accept Chatt State transfer hours? All I know is that I talked to Jordan about 2 weeks ago, and thats what he told me.
  19. Jordan is currently taking classes at Chattanooga State to go ahead and get some of his pre-rex out of the way.
