  1. Central vs. South, girls, 6:00, Central vs. Volunteer, boys, 7:45. The other quarterfinals are tomorrow night at the same times, I think.
  2. Central apparently beat Volunteer 70-61 tonight, which I believe sets up a 4/5 matchup in Bristol between those two teams.
  3. I neglected to mention what a great game Wes Baker had as well, I didn't see the total points until this evening since the Johnson City Press had nothing on it. Hess had 32 and Baker had 25. Tremendous game by both players, along with #52 from Crockett.
  4. Very true, I copied the title from the chant the Central kids did after the game, it wasn't my overall opinion, though tonight he made nearly every shot he took.
  5. Cougars had a 51-39 lead in the 3rd quarter, but Crockett battled back to eventually take the lead, and Central had to get a late basket to force OT. Justin Hess scored something around 30 points or more, including the game-winning runner as time expired. Central could have run away with this one if they had been better in transition and chosen some better shots in the second half, immediate long treys when you're up 4-5 late are ridiculous. Overall, it was a good game, but since it was really only close because Central collapsed, it wasn't a great one, except for Hess. Cougars take on Twin Springs on the road tomorrow night, before a showdown at home with Tennessee High on Friday.
  6. TSSAA.org has Greeneville listed as the Regional host, which doesn't make much sense if District 1 is picking, I hope you're right about South.
  7. Unfortunately, they won't unless they meet in the District or Regional tournaments, Science Hill won at Central 80-66 earlier in the season.
  8. I apparently missed this in the news last week. I have been very surprised by the Cougars' lack of success over the last four games after watching them play against Science Hill. They were outmanned at the skill positions as expected but if not for that they had a legitimate chance of winning. This team has had two winning seasons in the last decade, with the coaching staff remaining largely the same. I had Coach Hooks in PE for my senior year and I must say that it was a wonderful experience and that I have a lot of respect for him. I am sorry that the team has struggled so much, and that he has health problems, but I have felt that the team has never reached its full potential under these coaches, and that a housecleaning should have been in order a long time ago. For example, Ralph Nelson took over at East and inherited a team that in 1999-2000 looked like one of the worst teams imaginable, and he's turned them into winners. If someone could do that at East, why not at Central?
  9. I never quite understood why they don't just have the Regional champions each go to the state tournament instead of giving the 2 finalists a chance to win their way in.
  10. when the refs miss 3-4 obvious travels by the other team, and call fouls on the wrong team away from the ball, the fans certainly have a right to complain. A Jeff County guy held the ball without dribbling on the floor for almost 5 seconds and was able to pass it to a teammate. Another time one of them fell completely forward with the ball and both his knees on the ground, and he was allowed to get up! As for the last D-B/Central game, Central would have been up 78-76 with 7 seconds left in regulation if not for the worst charging call I've ever seen in my entire life at any level. Another time Gabe and a Jeff County guy both had possession of the ball but they called a foul on him instead of a jump ball! As for the game, I think Central would be very fortunate to beat D-B 3 out of 4 times in the same season, especially with so much on the line. I know they're capable of winning but D-B is a very good team that can run the floor and shoot lights out. They are a much better team than they were when Central beat them 78-64 in Kingsport and if they play well they could easily make it to MTSU. Thanks for the directions, if I'd followed them properly I would have gotten there sooner but I kept thinking Business 11-E was a different road. The directions were right on!
  11. Maybe you haven't noticed but the city people have done just as much bashing of the County schools, chants of County Rednecks, Inbred Rednecks, and etc. I think the county people are quite justified in being pretty excited and doing a little trash talking this past week. When we played Jefferson County and beat them last night, I didn't feel like I had to walk out of the arena quickly with my keys in my hand like I did when we defeated D-B twice and Science Hill last week, especially after all the cops ran outside during the awards ceremony.
  12. Pigeon Forge 68, Elizabethton 60 on the Coacht scoreboard
  13. Exactly, that would have been even more hilarious than all of the dives though
  14. I agree with that, fortunately I don't think the refs called any fouls on Central when any of the Toppers flopped.
  15. I noticed all the flopping too, but didn't other Toppers besides Wattad do it also? I know in hockey you can be penalized for faking a penalty, what about hoops?
